Welcome to a video where I'm playing a flight simulator for the first time!! Figured I have some time and I've never done this before, so why not?? I thought it would be funny to fly a flight simulator game as a real pilot to see how I do. I was also thinking I could try the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 it comes out?? Then maybe I won't do so terrible with a bit more practice!!

Thank you so much, Emilie, for choosing GeoFS as your first flight simulator. You did pretty well for a first time! Your last approach can definitely be called a "classic flight sim approach". You should try "click and drag" to rotate the camera (look around): this helps with situation awareness. Hope you get back to the skies soon!

Awwww yissssss!!!! This video totally brings back fond memories of days spent playing Jane's Combat Simulators as a kid on the good ol Windows 95 and 98 platforms. (If that isn't an indication as to how old those simulations are I don't what is lol) I still have all of them in a box in storage somewhere plus a couple of 3 ring binders to a subscription called Aircraft Of The World that my parents gave to me. That subscription was the best thing ever as i adored anything and everything aviation. I still do! As always I love your content. I hope you find yourself surfing the skies once more pretty soon! I would like to predict now, that once MSFS 2020 comes out and you have all of the proper equipment (High end PC with at least a 1080TI graphic card, Yoke, Rudder pedals) , that your channel subscriptions are going to EXPLODE. I watch upwards of 2-3 hours of flight sim videos just about every day and still can't get enough. My favorite channels to watch are the ones ran by IRL pilots. As far as I know I have not seen a channel ran by a female pilot that also does SIM videos. Can't wait to see your channel grow.

Shout from Cape Town - FS fan here, can't wait for 18 Aug :) Hands down the prettiest pilot I'd ever seen btw. Keep up the good work (loved your UN stuff) You should definitely look into some add on aircraft like PMDG - for FS 2020, their systems are very close to real world. Us sim geeks would be delighted to have you punting our hobby, you would make it seem less nerdy .

Ha, ha! LOVED your intro... That was a fun vid Em. For someone who is unfamiliar with flight sims in general and that sim in particular, I think you did pretty well. Like real flying, sim flying takes heaps of practice. It also helps to be familiar with your specific sim. All-in-all well done... PS. It also helps to have a flight controller of some kind, other than the keyboard and/or mouse. If you had a flight sim joy-stick or a yoke with a set of pedals, I think you'd be in much more familiar territory. That's just my opinion though...

This was so entertaining to watch, and I really hope to see you fly in the new MSFS. I would definitely recommend getting some kind of controller, even if it's only a cheap HOTAS Joystick setup, as I know it is super difficult to try and fly a simulator with keyboard only, so well done for even trying it. I would also suggest watching some other Flightsimmers. I enjoy watching Drawyah as he seems to know a lot about sims, has some great content, and is a great down to earth guy. Hope your able to get back to your real flying career soon.

I think you might enjoy MSFS 2020 when it releases next week. Not only is it amazing to look at (based on real-world imagery - and it covers some 39,000 airports across the world), but for someone with your in-depth professional knowledge of piloting I'm sure you might find it a great way to keep your piloting skills fresh, as well as offering the simple pleasure of some virtual travel all over the world.

Laid off pilot became RU-vid sensation doesn't seem bad.I really hope you get your hand on MSFX 2020 with the necessary controllers.Have been watching few YT channels from GA pilot (the candourist ,Squirrel for ex.) demoing MSFX with their pilot experience it's pretty amazing.I could see that as becoming another way to create content on YT from pilots.

It’s great to see you have such a great sense of humour! And don’t worry! You are doing exactly what most of us did years ago when we got our first FlightSim and flying with the keyboard!! Really tough!! For me it was 30 years ago on a little home computer. Now, 30 odd years later I fly the 737-800 and 747-400 most of the time in real weather and online with live ATC!! But it’s all I can have because I got in too late to have the career and the job you have! I have the utmost respect for what you do! My thoughts? Ok you depart runway 27. So left crosswind would be a heading of 180. I’d stay at 1000 feet and make your crosswind short and go right into downwind (090) to keep within sight of the field and the scenery is not too detailed to help VFR!! Anyway try to see a few flight simulation videos, particularly airline flights on VATSIM to get an idea of just how close to reality we try to come! I have subscribed! All the best Emilie. Totally understand the feeling of sweating! Once we used to the real world flying, I was sweating when I first get into the sim world when we could know the way we used to control our aircraft! All the eye scanning, wind, direction, terrain and trying to rise up our awareness of our surroundings, feel the need for V1, rotating, and approach speeds ...etc. which make us taking more seriously even it is just a simulator. That been said, I do like the entertainment part of your approach to made this video! I really enjoy it! And I even think this was a creative video! Don't worry about the stick, yoke or rudder. With keyboard and mouse, I think you could try AIRBUS😂 !!! overall I liked your video and the idea of it, I think all of us the simmers were sometimes been too serious during these pandamic period, we need more laugh 😎 ~

Never heard of GeoFS before thanks for finding. Loved the RCAF Twin Otter, one of my favourite aircraft. Will definitely fly around the GeoFS world till MFS2020 comes out.

Maybe a joystick or a yoke would help. It is very hard to fly an airplane with a mouse and/or keyboard.

Hey Emilie thanks alot for the Video it was fun to watch :) i hope you can get back to flying real planes soon but until then maybe get yourself a Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant and Honeycomb Alpha Flight Controls Yoke & Switch Panel you will need Track IR as well for head tracking...

I think your situational awareness would massively increase if the gound was 3D... That was definately an experience on its own trying to work out what was what! Seeing you have a go at MS Flight Simulator 2020 with "0% skills in this" sounds like it would be intersting, you'd be able to see how intuitive the flight sim controls were and how well it translated to flying an actual plane; and if it all goes wrong, then you're having fun and thats the main thing

You're a goofball! Love the intro. 😂 You have been busy on here, I have lots of catching up to do, went road Trippin on route 66. If you're ever in the states for a while you need to rent a Jalopy (that's an old 1950's convertible) and hit route 66 you'd love the crazy roadside attractions. Rental is super cheap.

Hi Emilie. Just for the case you want to try something like this again, you should perhaps try out flightgear as it is a much more full simulator that still is free. I seriously believe a person with a background like yours will find yourself much more at home. I'm an avid flight simmer and would find it just as hard to fly pure VFR in the sim you are trying out. Cool shirt btw! :-) I got to wear such one when I'm "simming" Cheers

The whole sim thing can be a rabbit hole you can disappear down and not come up for weeks and months, and end up ££££ or $$$$ poorer. Many of us are frustrated wannabe-pilots, though there are a few real world pilots doing flight sim videos here on RU-vid - flightdeck2sim is definitely worth a look and even Steveo1Kinevo did some sim flights when he was in lockdown. I think MSFS would be a good choice as it's got good as well as the serious eye candy. It's definitely going to be a bit buggy at release, though Microsoft is promising monthly updates. If you do decide to do more sim content, I will certainly be watching, but hoping to see you back in the cockpit in the real world soon too.

This was a fun little video. If you go the FS2020 route...at minimum get a joystick. Flying with a keyboard and mouse is pretty near impossible and I say that as a terrible flight sim pilot. Look forward to seeing more from you.

Hi Emilie, i am flying enthusiast. i used MS Flight Simulator 5.1 back in 1999. That is where i learned flying. I used your shared link to GeoFS. Thank You. I am back to flying. It is awesome. But difficult controls.
