L-mål likely stands for "landning, mål" which means "landing, target". "mål" is btw pronounced like "maul". Same goes with the M1 name of the waypoint. Great tutorial as always! 12:27 "kissing the bottom" so THAT'S why you called the HUD gay back then! :D

Nice and useful! But the elevation of the waypoint is essential when flying in the mountains. Thus, preparing a route in the planner you should be careful about the elevation of each waypoint in relation to ground elevation. And, based on this it would be useful to know how to set waypoints - with elevation - in the cockpit. I am no expert in this, but I believe that it is essential to have target-waypoints set with the correct elevation - and have the barometric pressure for that area set correctly.

Agreed, it would also be great to broach the topic of using INS fixes. I can't remember which video it was but Cap was in a Viggen flight that missed it's target by quite a large margin due to INS drift. You actually need to incorporate Nav fixes in a Viggen flight plan in order to keep it up-to-date, however this drift is all dependent on flight time and the amount and frequency of hard turns / evasive jinking etc. When possible I always set a waypoint fix on either terrain features (i.e., small islands), or defined landmarks (i.e., bridges) that is relatively easy to spot and fly over, whilst fixing / updating current position.

If I remember correctly, the viggen doesn't have heights for it's way-points. Instead it have a reference altitude you set in flight.

Technical detail: The viggen doesn't use INS, but ADR. Automated Dead Reckoning is far more prone to drifting, but cheaper and easier to make work. And no aligning needed. Apart from that, did you look at the new (weeks) map-marker-to-cartridge feature? Place markers, label them b1 b2 m3 b4 etc, and import them via the cartridge select page in the kneeboard.

Don't forget to press reference button while aligned on the runway, not mandatory but useful

You're persuading me about the Viggen... You often mentioned Cold Starts, btw - what is the difference between Cold and Hot starts, may be useful, Cap. Many thanks for making all these airplane "how to" vids. Best, Pete.

A hot start means the plane is up and running, just not taxied or airborne. A cold start is starting from a completely parked, shut off state.

Great tutorial . But how do you set nav points in the viggen on the Nevada map...there are no Eastings just north and west but the west has 7 digets and the viggen only has room for 6.. or im i missing something lol

You don’t. The Viggen was designed to operate in Europe.

Year late but if anyone finds this, just skip the 1 and type everything else as if it was easting. For example W 114°25'53 will be "14 25 53" on the keypad. Probably a game workaround but it works.

Sorry to ask dumb question, but for the life of me I cant figure out why you entered in 9099 as one of the waypoints, was this just a made up number? or are you referring to a speicfic waypoint? Where is 9099 on the map at the start of the tutorial.
@CB-ii2uy
@CB-ii2uy 3 года назад
Ok so I think 9099 is the airbase CAP is starting from, all good

I had no idea where he got this number from either.

That is a special input code that means “Load all data from cartridge”. When finished with no error, zero is displayed.
