Welcome back Akira Bike fans and the Recumbent / Feet Forward motorcycle curious!
In this video, I fabricate a new extended headrest, mount it to the frame, practice TIG welding and blending along the way. I also fabricate the 10 vibration isolation engine mounts, and announce exciting new additions to my motorcycle family!
Subscribe and follow along while I'm designing and building a fully functional high performance recumbent (aka feet forward) motorcycle inspired by Kaneda's ride in "Akira" in this ambitious motorcycle project.

Absolutely crazy how lucky you were to get not only one, but bikes that are so rare for a reasonable price! Loving the dedication and attention to detail you've put into this project.

Your production value is high and you are a decent teacher however with that said I think you're overthinking so much of this project. Sometimes you just got to make up your mind and go for it or else it's just never going to get finished. Take it from a fellow recumbent motorcycle builder who only builds his projects with a welder, grinder and a drill. You will get there eventually. I did own 1982 gl500 silverwing when I was a kid, power was not it's strong suit but it was reliable. Looking forward to seeing much more progress in your build👍

Oh yeah absolutely a fair concern, I talked about that in my frame extension video, I don't want to get trapped in the never good enough hole. It's easy as a creator to fall into that and every part can be improved perpetually. You have to stop and say that's good enough. Out of context it looks like thats what may have happened here, but I was really reluctant to make this change and tried to avoid it, but I ultimately decided this is better aligned with the goals of my project and an accelerated production timeline at the cost of delaying the prototype completion. This should be the last major design change unless some blocker or critical safety issue arises.

I think the VFR would have been a far better choice for a power train as well as they have a single sided swing arm the could be used.

Not for my build at this point. To do the potential of this platform justice, designing it from the ground up is necessary. Using the frame / swingarm from an existing bike is easy and convenient for a quick chop job, but it's a severe physical and aesthetic design constraint that prevents even minimal optimization and really limits what the bike can do. It's like building a suspension bridge out of wood. The VFR engine's longitudinal design takes up much more room than a transverse twin. That's a fine engine when you are sitting up on top of and over an engine, but not in a rear engine recumbent setup. Existing swing arms have similar problems. I'll be designing and constructing my own proprietary single sided rear swingarm around Phase IV of the build.
