No disrespect but I thought that marching bands were originally from the Ottomans and The British. Even the costumes seem more European? The military invaded many countries killing their natives?
Lord! Those were some genuine good days down at Alcorn State University. Memories a life time. Thanks, Sam for treating me like the "Jewe'l I am with nothing but! Respect. The pride goes a long way ❤️🤗🤗🙏😊 I still want to be a ' Golden Girl's😊😂👍
It's such a true blessing to watch young adults engage in positive activities. It's just a pleasure to watch. Shout-out to all future generations prospering in the right directions, keep up the good work to all great parents.
I really wish the HBCUs got more support from the communities that they are in. These stadiums should be filled on game day. Hopefully, the universities provide outreach to the schools and churches in these areas to invite the public to these games. I am sure the pride that I feel in seeing black excellence may be an inspiration to the community.
Why ? This is nonsense. These are bad students, bad teams, and they add no value to the larger community. Unless you're black and delusional, there's nothing here
@seventhcompactor1505 Ummm. These ladies are no less covered up or making any more suggested moves than NFL or NBA cheerleaders. At least we hope that these women are getting an education. All of the dance moves may not be for me either, but I am not as cute as I used to be. I love the tradition of the black college bands. Its roots go back to military style precision, the entertainment of the black minstrel shows, and the pride of African culture. Even back then, our forefathers took the "sting" out of the minstrel shows to their advantage. The college students who are band members are usually the best of the best. Between band practice and their college studies, they have to be disciplined, smart, and talented. I guess everyone sees things from their perspective. I see talented, hard-working college students and future leaders of America. You see twerking and nakedness. I guess my focus is different. Different stokes for different folks.
This makes me really miss my 5 years in marching band. These young athletes - yes, with everything that goes into it, they are true athletes - are very talented.
@@seventhcompactor1505>So because they’re not Asian, they aren’t good students? I marched in the band all four years and maintained a 3.8 GPA the entire time. You sound like a the type of “person” who’s angry because a Black person is doing better then you…without affirmative action. Don’t be so 😮hateful, none of that will make your d*** any bigger you know.
@@williamsstephens I enjoy watching them. Reminds me of my youth. I was thankful to get one year of band. One year was all my family could afford. It was priceless and I LOVE music because of it. #hsb❣️ #chorus❣️
"They" can't even touch this. It's clear the music is everything, and the band practices hard. I remember the first time I saw a HBCU band march in the Mardi Gras parade in Biloxi in 1974. It may even have been Alcorn. They played Eddie Kendricks' Keep on Truckin' and the drum major, dressed to the nines, put on the best marching performance I have ever seen. I hope he ended up famous, or is now teaching these same skills.
I have no idea why the algorithm gave me this, marching bands like this are not a thing in my country, but holy crap that was fun to watch. Think I'm about to fall down a rabbit hole.
@@m.l.b.2908 Jackson State University aka "The Sonic Boom of the South." They're the only reason why I go to the Southern Heritage Classic football game every year. Well until they were replaced by University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. Now I go for the family reunion type atmosphere. Enjoy the videos! ✌🏾
Not sure what she has to do with a marching band, but what do I know? I went to school in the Big 10. Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa -they don't know much about marching bands there...
Listennnnn them four young men in the front really led with power. They marched like it was life or death. And the ladies with them high powered kicks! This was a whole vibe. Real smooth 💥🔋🤎✨✊🏽💯
Grew up in the Bay Area of California so I didn't have this growing up but I LOVE watching this. I wish we had something like this. This just gave me goosebumps. 🥴🥁
@@constancepeterson6156I didn't see anything wrong with the costumes. Nothing private was hanging out. It wasn't flattering because some of them were too chubby for that particular style.
Beautiful - the people, the skill, the hard work and dedication behind all of this! And those drum majors’ side kick?! I must have rewound and watched that 59 times! Regular mo, slow mo, freeze frame - SO GOOD!
@@iveywebb After so many years of working with our young people , it is so important to let them know how much they are appreciated. They are talented, resourceful and very intelligent. We can learn a lot from them if we watch and listen.
I'm never not gonna be upset that I didn't get to go to an HBCU for college. Its like concentrated culture and community and youth and we need immersion in that foundation before we go out into this world, where so many don't give a damn about us or our history. I'm doing alright but this sort of connection and community would have changed my whole vibe and the way I move in this world growing up - in a VERY good and authentic way.
Wow...although, i truly loved school and miss it but the band was my favorite thing about school. I absolutely loved being in the band. I was a majorette, played Trumpet 🎺 and French Horn 📯 ASU-JSU! ✌
I love this! The preparation, the time. the effort, the precision! I wish we all had a culture in the UK where we could Majorette at ANY age promoting a healthy life, a kin-ship and creating such a theatre of joy. A great inspiring video!
It’s the fact that they are aerodynamic for me!!!!! The only thing I’d change is their points and drive. That’s only because I’m a FAMU head by nature. Y’all guys did the damn thing though! Keep going strong!🙌🏾💪🏾
Copycats. You will never duplicate the Jaycettes. Discover your own signature style that makes you unique. This is what makes our HBCU band experience strong. You have great skill that deserves your own mark.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Who here remembers Griff and Dr. Lee. 93 to 98 babayyyyy. I was in it with the twins, Smiley and Mike as the drum majors. Marching into the stadium was EVERYTHING…😁😁😁😁😁😁. This was a subtle entrance. We didn’t play back in the day baby. # ALCORNALUMNI
loved the high step marching from the get-go , the stick griiiindin' the golden girl kicks the whole lot! it sounds, looks and feels great! well done to you all!!!. uk fan xxx!
Alcorn State did that. Their drumline and band and dancers are phenomenal. All I can say is the blacker the college, the sweeter the knowledge. 🖤 ♥ 🎶 🥁
How are the people in the stands not going INSANE?!? If I had seen this amazing spectacle in person I would have been screaming so much I wouldn't have been able to talk for a week afterward. Brilliant showmanship!
Love African Americans!!!! So much giftedness and talent!!! Pray we African Americans succeed at being Great at all we do and fall in love with each other again in Jesus Name...
y'all those Golden Girls!TOO good!!! The whole band- cause we are only as strong as our weakest link, my director used to always say- is just fan-dang-tastic. in my younger days there was a time when band consumed me- it kinda has to in it's season if you want to be your best. but i had some of the most fun, and felt some of the most powerful emotions i have ever felt thanks to that crew and our time together. but most of all the band instills a stick-to-it-ness in you that will assist your future life more than you can even imagine right now- both physically and mentally. the skill set you have been developing and honing to its finest, in practices and games and competitions for years, will pay dividends unto you for the rest of your lives- because these are the talents of champions. you know how to work as a member of a team, how to give your best always and everywhere, how to perform in stressful situations, how to have pride in what you've accomplished but also how to remain humble because you also know the determination and sacrifice it took to get you there...and never forget to always hold your head high and your expectations higher
