In this part 8, episode 79 of Streets and Scholars Alex Alonso and Bear from 89 East Coast Crips talks about which Blood set was the most active on the Eastside and they disagree if that title goes to the 89 Family Swans.
They also disagree on who was the first one with a non-profit gang intervention organization. Was it T. Rogers?

What alot of outsiders dont understand is Swans collaborated with alot of other Damu sets especially in them 80's and 90's. For example when Pooh Bear got killed in 1988 allegedly by the Hoovers at least a half dozen other Damu Sets put it down for him. Everyone who thought it was only Swans was big mistaken. This was the norm back in the day when a respected known Damu got shot or lost his life. Homies from several sets was gonna smash. That's real Blood History for you. 💯

Bear is hating😂. The Swans was most definitely the most vicious. I think hes ignoring the fact 89 had a lot of help so it wasnt just 89ECC, it was also 97,76, AND the 6pack. Plus just because you chased someone doesnt mean they werent killers, you just had the upperhand in the moment.

Once again, Alex is correct. The 89NH Family's were wreaking havoc beginning in the late 70's and right on up until the 90's. Back then, in the 70's and early 80's, Bear wasn't even from 89NHECC. He was from Hat Gang Watts. My homeboy's lived right next door to them on 92nd & Zamora. Facts! And, I'm not being bias because I have peeps from 89NHECC, Swans, and 89NH Family, just as a lot of us do. What Year Do you Give 89NHF & 89ECC ? The Saying Goes, 89 Neighborhood was One Gang, that Split into two over Wolf's Death in 1979. If True, that Implies, 89NHF split off of 89NHC, meaning 89F Originals were Crips. If True, that Implies, 89ECC had not kicked off until After Wolf's Death in 1979. Problem for me is Alonzo is separating the Swans. As a whole, Swans is the most notorious Blood set period in LA. Yes even over the Bhunters. 89 Family did they thang. Not sure they should get the crown over other Swan sets. Having a few notorious members shouldnt be reflective of the gangs damage as a whole. For me. 89 didnt take territory. The other Swans sets took Fremont back from multiple Crip hoods, and gained territory. That to me is a bigger crown. Also establishing yourself in original Cip territory is huge as well. But 89 did they thang. Bear didnt diss them or call them weak, he just gave it to another Swan set. I see that as fair. Now if he shitted on Swans as a whole, that would raise a major red flag.

Exactly. My exact thoughts. Either he had a blazer (pistol), or he was with a pack of others. Cartoon53 shares stories of him getting chased all the time by his enemies, it happens. Some days you have the upper hand, some days you don't. Especially at that time though, (it's no secret) the bloods were heavily outnumbered by the Crips. Something about Bear is telling he's not being 100% honest about some of the stuff he be spewing, he seems to be one of those type of dudes who resorts to "half-truths." @@zabcoheen2098real talk, did you ever get a chance to meet him? Sinister was indeed a legit/credible brother. One of the reasons he didn't blow up in the industry at the time is because they felt that he had too much going on, like too many trips going back and forth to jail/prison, otherwise he would've skyrocketed (especially with the right backing/promotion). The talent was there, he had a good voice, could rap+sing and was/is respected. And speaking of the Bishops, Sinister have a song titled "What's Wrong With Being A Gangster" featuring some 92nd Street Pueblo Bishops. 🔥🎯

Alex and Bear is both wrong. The most active Blood or Crip gang off the East Side when it comes to killings is actually Bounty Hunters. The thing is with them alot of the killings was on each other not enemies. But this is more so in the late 80's and 90's. 2000'S. Bear might be right about the 84 Swans being more active then the 89 NHF. Only because they numbers was greater and might have had more shooters but then again both sets collaborated and went on mission together allegedly if you know you know. I qualified the statement with "pound for pound" meaning for the size and numbers that 89NHF had, they were the most active. The Bounty Hunters certainly have a larger turf, and deeper members, therefore most likely kicked up more dust than any other blood set on that side of town, but for the smaller size 89NHF was, they had a bonafide roster of soldiers.

@AlexAlonso101 OK from that standpoint pound for pound that makes sense. I can't argue with that.

Alex is a L.A. gang historrian. He's usually correct 99% of the time. But, he's 100% correct on this one. Not everyone in the gang knows everything. Some aren't old enough, some weren't sober enough, some didn't live long enough, and some aren't truthful enough.

Alex is a clown 🤡 💯 . Dude calls himself a scholar like he produces scholarship and/or peer reviewed articles or some shit. Buddy infatuated with black on black violence and never jumped off the porch his damn self.

@@pharoah1200you on every post riding these fools lol yeah they were a hard set for a time but you acting like they was knocking every gang down without taking loses 😂 East cost and Hoovers, mains and even the Avalon’s was just as about the business as them. Shit they had to contend with other blood sets and 18th street as well, I know swans and families got a gang of dead homies

I feel like he’s definitely hating which is normal anytime your people been dropped from the other side or even if it’s simply just dudes from elsewhere. I feel like he knows the truth deep down. 😅

I agree, I’d rather see Alonso ask a gang cop this question because the cop is going to be non biased,& the cops are also the first people called/on the scene after a body gets dropped!!! Period!!!

This dude Zo an outsider looking in. Unless you were on them streets living that life then you can speak on it. Bear said it best when you get locked up and get into that station they all have a map of they surrounded areas with only the active gangs on they maps. They would sometime put on the map the top active gangs in order.

Come on man this discussion of crips vs bloods is ridiculous...crips have the upper hand all the time besides its more dangerous being a crips because of all the infighting so stop this blood narrative as always.
