Wasn't really planning on mixing in a video before the giveaway vids, but had so many requests about how this ship plays and how to build it so decided to squeeze this one in! Stream: www.twitch.tv/flamuu Insta: instagram.com/flamugram/ Twitter: twitter.com/flamuchz Discord: discord.gg/Flamu
Flamu, I’ve been playing against a lot of Nevsky recently and I think the ship is OP. Freakin non sense icebreaker in a light cruiser... 6 sec reload, 1000ms, good angles, lots of guns... it’s unreal.. do something 😂
supersonic shells good armor good range good AA dakka 9/10 torps deny rushes perfect kiting angles destroyer speed good radar blessed by stalin wg give some smoke jesus
Am surprised how they have gotten away with that....most companies pay you actual money for advertising or PR efforts, not wargaming tho, they finger feed them pixel luxuries.
Soviet "Light" Cruiser: 2k HP short of newly released German BB; WG sleeps German BB: Slightly more HP than anciently released T6(!) other German BB (PEF); WG reaching for the nerf-stick
I have to say, my favourite thing about this game other than watching the RUSHAAA bullshit, is watching the Kriegsmarineaboos completely exaggerate the quality of German ships in response to the RUSHAAAA bullshit. As a general rule, German military competence in the first and second world war has been seriously exaggerated (at least in the western world), I think to make their defeat sound like more of an achievement and to encourage an anti-war ethic. The irony is, the allied countries have done a wonderful job of making it seem like Germany was actually exclusively populated by ubermensch, whilst simultaneously being completely oblivious to the more cynical motivations for why you'd want to represent your previous enemy like that
do note that the 180mm russian high velocity guns are historical. only historically they had terrible barrel wear so to make it accurate HE shells should be much slower (cut down propellant charges were used), with each shot velocity and accuracy should degrade and after about 30 AP shots the gun should break ;)
I always think back to how small the Russian navy actually was in WWII. From memory it had, I think, 6 battleships and about 12 assorted cruisers etc? Then I'm reminded of the WG advert and "how we model our ships on the specifications at the time" xD
Well, the devil is in the details, in a way. WG dates the projects. So the T8 Soviet cruisers are from 48 or so, if not later. While other T8 cruisers are from... 41, 42, things like that. They're basically forced to match ships from different eras (in this age of fast changing technologies) in order to have something vaguely ok for a MM. Even in a 100% recreation. Check the "real" Stalingrad: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tJXVjVdG2Rw.html
By virtue of the ship being more reliant on broadsides for the best AP performance, it does feel more "fair" than other russian ships like Smolensk. The HE can be scary, specially for DDs with that radar. It is tough to play because you can get deleted with ease. Overall I think it is a good addition as a tighter jack-of-all-trades Moskva. Very good guide on how to make the most of the ship!
Got the Nevsky today. Played 1 match: - rushed a Des Moines behind an island and torped it to death in close combat, meanwhile citadelling to death a Zao that tried to help him, at mid range, then moved my attentions to a Worcester that was hoping to be smart behind another, far away, island, at max of my gun range, blindfiring him using the last known position on the minimap and getting citadels in any case... ... after "HE spamming cruisers" (Kutuzov and Smolensk), now russian ships have the "AP spammer".
This is what happens when you mash Smolensk, DM. Donskoi and Stalin... You can radar and chase down DDs (several of them are slower). You've got very strong AA Your guns are what Worchester can only dream of, with better range than most CA and AP that makes DM envious and challenge Zao because soviet shells are apparently immune to silly things like *physics*. Your HE is also better than the DM. With the Icebreaker, this ship is possibly tankier than DM. It has torps. It has one of the best engines among t10 cruisers. Perfectly balanced
I have a feeling that if this commentary was a few months ago you'd be laughing and asking wtf they're thinking. Can really tell that WG must've threatened you guys to knock off the criticism...
As a dd it is so toxic to play against, First you get (almost stealth) radared, then if you somehow manage to survive, you often cant get out of the radarrange because of its incredible speed and then another of those stupid 12km Radars Catches you
"Has 1000m/s shell velocity". That would explain why it has an 8.45s travel time to 16.66km as shown at 5:11. I guess when you ignore most forms of physics there's no reason not to go the whole hog and bend space-time itself.
That's the same with any ship in the game, the distances in the game are smaller than they are displayed. Other way you can see this is if you check how far your ship traveled in a match and then calculate your average speed
Finally, someone else notices... I've been bringing this up on WG forums for quite a while now... it never seems to get much recognition... I do wonder what the game would be like if shell speeds were closer to accurate? Gunnery would be more challenging for sure. Would love to play it like that to see how it is... but never gonna happen.
@@bananobanana1870 Actually, the ship speeds are amplified quite a bit more than the shell velocities. Ingame ships are breaking the sound barrier on water, whereas the guns might only get double shell velocity. The ratio of ship speed to shell speed is tweaked heavily in favor of the ships trying to dodge. If it were modeled more accurately, it'd be way easier to lead distant targets.
On the bright side, a ship this strong must surely do very well on the spreadsheets, which means WG will have to tweak it rather soon (TM) because they always act on what the spreadsheets tell them, right? So we could probably expect, say, some small AA nerfs....?
Des Moines' reload speed was explained by an autoloader. This thing is just as fast, but has nearly a third more range and better ballistics. Do they even attempt to explain it?
It is much more sluggish, much less stealthy and can't pen 32mm. Is it much easier to play than the DM? Of course, thanks to the ballistics. Is it strong in the right hands? Definitely. Is it OP? Hardly.
Which cruiser other than Nevsky is useful now?? Wait Smolensk wants to talk. Smolensk : well Im still the killing shadow. Nevsky : i don’t need to hide, my nose is anti Yamato. Smolensk: 😵 Henri IV: 🤤 Zao: 💅🏽 Des Moines: 🤬 Wooster: 🥺 Goliath: 💥🤯💥
Usual Russian magic best of everything ship. No bias whatsoever. Have basically stopped playing since patch... WG aren't even trying to keep the game playable now - they've got full Gaijin and just piling content on top of content.
Yeah I always thought Gaijin was king of retarded bias and gameplay decisions but WG is definitely giving them a run for their money, must be a Russian thing
@@DenmarkRadar Same here, I had enough of stupid carrier thing and bullshit fake russian cheat tree, so I took a break. Then I made a mistake and gave it a try .. again, only to see that things went much worse. Plus I am really pissed of with fucking hammer and sickle everywhere. In my opinion, it is the same symbol, as svastika. So wg morons, put svastika on german ships (historicaly accurate) or ban fucking hammer and sickle aswell. Add other failures, like incomming and totally broken submarines and german CV's, which are broken enough but it will be much worse (in my opinion) because I think, that fake german CV's are just excuse for later adition of even more fake russian CV's. And gues what ... they won't be ... underpowered. Time to leave this trash behind. By the way, I don't recommend ED, you will be disapointed. Game is huge, beautiful ........ and it is pretty much everything it is. It is like beautiful shiny box, which is totally empty. You can trade, so you can get money a bigger cargo ship ... so you can trade more and ... I gues you got the point. You can fight .... and here we go again. You can mine .. same story. Or you can explore, which is only thing I like but over all, I miss any purpose of doing anything, or feeling of progress towards something. Very soon, there is simply nothing to do. And that's sad. Game has big (wasted) potencial, plus I am a big fan of X series (except for X4).
192,000 hp in a "light cruiser". I'm pretty sure the Alaska and Essexs had 180,000 hp. The 33 knot Iowa or the fastest BBs ever with 50k tons at full load had 212,000 hp. Even the engines have magical stalin physics to have more hp then a 33 knot 30k ton carrier with all its engine space available.
I still play DDs and have 70%WR for Tier 8 and 9. If you can cope with the current wows environment in DDs (Ultra HE spam, Radar, broken bullshits, CVs) you can definitely do well in DDs. Fear of the things adds more fear to the things itself, players are just scared of everything when theyre playing DDs and began to lose confidence especially in CV - HE radar spam cruisers matches. To me, best DDs to play currently is the Kidd, very supportive to the team of the Kidd goes support build (scout, capture build). I see alot of improper DD builds these days.
Wang Cheng we are scared in dd for good reason...killer secondaries, crazy reload on he spammers, cv, but even aa ships have no aa anymore, radar and hydro everywhere, and soon subs. Dd are dead now...rip.

Another Soviet cruiser that's the best at everything that matters and who's 'weaknesses' are everyone else's averages. These Soviet cruisers have been an absolute joke.
4:35 I'm one of those degenerates who use range mod on my Hindenburg. I usually close in to about 15km and start AP spamming superstructures and if they show broadside I can do 10k volleys, no problem. Then I reach around 18km and swap to HE and do an avg of 3-4k dmg each volley. I really love my Hindi.
At 5:11, the range is 16.76km and the shell travel time is 8.51s. So you are looking at about 2000m/s shell velocity at constant velocity without any drag, drop, etc. Even faster than L/55 DM63, omegalul.
Only 3 minutes into the video and already you have gotten 13 citadels. At best, with one of my battleships, I get to see maybe 1 citadel. At best. The rest of the time I get to see shatters and bounces off of the armor of cruisers who decided to give me flat broadsides. I guess that's what I get for playing American ships instead of "The Great and Mighty Soviet Fleet that totally existed"
I fondly recall a Nevsky farming me at 17 plus km in my Alaska while I was pushing a cap and being spotted by a DD that stayed out of radar range. I hate Russian rail guns and the state the game finds itself in. I primarily play American and German BB's and it has grown incredibly frustrating to push caps these days with ships like the Nevsky able to keep you at standoff range and farm you as either the shell velocity of American ships makes it difficult to return fire at a cruiser 16km or more away that is actively evading your fire or the dispersion of German BB's just trolling you. If you are unfortunate and a carrier has targeted you for death, you'll rarely get to use all your heals and keep the push going.
Idk how many times I wrote it in the comments of Flamu's videos but here we go : Light/Heavy categories are not related to the armor but to the gun size. Thanks
For a soviet cruiser she is WEAK! She needs 3 sec. reload, inbuilt IFHE, turtleback citadel-armour, smoke, 12 km JPN-style torps, long lasting hydro and 100k healthpool.
I planned to grind legendary upgrade for Z52 as next goal but no way. First battle went like this: A cautious approach to the cap with Z52... Then radared, out of nowhere. And yes, later i saw that it was the Nevsky. One out of three that enemy team had. I run and wiggle but... No way to dodge shells that come with 1000m/sec. Escaped with 6k hp -.- Well then go and cap zones with 6k hp. Fck. WG really hates destroyers. Can´t be arsed to play that class anymore.
Despite what Flamu said, I rather stay back and wait until everything die out, all the while getting shit on by my team for not screening ahead rather than go out there and get fucking stealth radar and ass fuck to death LOL. Honestly WG just killed T10 DD population at this point
Z is nice in ranks and clan battles but mediocre I used to rush the cap spot enemy dd and then smoke within 6km for the hydro But indeed this year is for cvs and radar cruisers
stefanos perivolaris nah ever since they introduced radar and CV, DD stop become relevant. Even if they remove CV from rank it impossible to contest cap when all of the enemy CA are radar cruiser
i have al nevsky too i found at last a smolensk killer i have same setup like you but the only thing i changed whas the reload i go for the range 22,4 km thats indeed ridicilious for a cl but it works i punish bb at long range ....also steering mod very important to angle ...i tryed my al nevsky 3 times against a smolenks and at full speed straight to them and with the steering mod i zig zagged every time and geuss what smolenks couldnt hit me once not once hahahaha and yes in close range i destroyed all 3 wit ap ......godd balanced ship i love it im waiting for the petropovlysk and test both because i want to buy perm camouflage so im waiting wich is the best ....flamu you tested them both what is your opinion the best of the 2 ?grtz
Is there a reson to play any other silver cruiser? Maby Dm and Venezia form silver lines and ofc Stalingrad, but Stalin cost steel and steel its not easy to obtain for evryone. Wg took all the best things from other ships and put it on one ship Nevsky
What are you talking about? There is no bias here comrade! These are historocally accurate ships of glorious Soviet armada!! If you question the glorious Red Fleet again you will go to gulag! (Yes, lots of bias, but don't let them hear you say it)
@@swisstraeng No. At the start of Operation Barbarossa in 1941, the Soviet T-34 was superior to German tanks at all ranges (this is visible even in Guderian's memoirs). What you say is a variation of the "asiatic hordes" myth, propagated by Goebbels in WW2. Edit do add: Some idiot wrote this, and then deleted his comment. If you are reading this, you should know that judging by your comment, your IQ equal to your age, divided by two. The reason (and this is obvious to anybody with more than 2 brain cells) that the Soviets got wrecked at the start of the war was because of shit commanding, shit strategy, and the relative novelty of the German blitzkrieg. Nothing to do with the personal qualities of the soldiers, and nothing to do with equipment.
I'm having trouble understanding shell velocity. He said this ship has 1000m/s shell velocity which is equivalent to 1km/s. However, when targeting a ship at 16km, the sight says the time to target is 8s. For the shell to travel 16km in 8s, it would have to travel at 2km/s or 2000m/s for the entire flight time. That doesn't add up. What gives?
With the loud wg Russian biased nevsky tree and pay to win policy I believe this is the end of my 26k battles journey of playing wows, something I should have done before, all what dev team brings is "silly" according to flamu, amongst existing frustrating unfair game design. I came from wot 65k battles journey as well, so I think I'm very well experienced with the idiology of WG now. I pray you guys don't lose your minds playing WG games.
Personally my favorite cruiser right now, though the choice between IFHE and is a hard one for people with high point captains. First battle with it got 180k damage and replacing CE with IFHE is a terrible option for me because I think it needs good concealment.
My 1st game was 250k with 7 citas I think. The ship is fun, but I don't think it's that of cancer like Smolensk. It takes damage. I nuked one with secondaries in my Georgia. He couldn't set me on fire for good minute. Was a bit weird..
Replacing CE for anything shouldn’t even be a consideration, especially for a ship that punishes as hard as Nevsky. Find some other skills to drop for IFHE, it’s not like the ship is starved for points.
I would. The first time I grinded the Donskoi for the Moskva, I had IFHE. Donskoi with IFHE does SO much dmg. This time around I don't have it (not enough captain points) and it feels kinda rough actually. I feel like the fire-starting capability isn't enough on the Donskoi to make up for the lack in dmg. I will definitly spec it, once I have enough captain points.
I saw two of its sister ships IRL back in the 1980s... (Admiral Senyavin and Dmitri Pozharski - there're more than one ways to spell those ))) Just moored offshore to shoot fireworks for various holidays (yes, that was a thing). A 1950s design (kinda outside the scope of the game), with specs nowhere near as good as in the game... Ugh.
Do you cover Kuznetsov in another video? 175k Coal seems like a very high price, but then I see a video like this or the one where you reviewed Lutjens and it gives the impression that maybe I should consider using the coal on Kuznetsov.
If you should consider for 175k????... really? ... eh nope. It’s not a maybe... it’s a rushhhhh buy it now eyes closed 25% interest pay later thing with still worth feeling. 😂
Running double rudder shift ( 5.5 seconds) with a 5.2 second reload. D. Donskoi on steroids!!!! Jury still out on running IFHE or not. Still get a lot of non penetrations but its 50\50 now. Not running IFHE may be better. Lots of bounces at long range with AP. The range and rate of fire creates a false sense of security for some and with its speed, you can get into trouble and be quickly reminded this is a ship with light cruiser armor. Avoiding ANY BB shell is a must and the quick rudder shift and speed really gives the enemy fits at long range. Bring you kiteing skills.
Interesting, maybe it's the amount of guns this thing has, but I had not much trouble dodging most of the shells from a Nevsky in a Khabarovsk withing his radar range ... I had more issues with a Smolensk at about the same range ....
Not OP, not Broken? This sort of commentary would normally be filled with Flamu mentioning how unbalanced this is, how its broken, overpowered etc. Except now its "silly". Not the only CC ive noticed that seems to have been quietly slapped by WG into submission to stop commenting on Russian ships and the unbalanced nature of them.
@@kevinreed-jones3179 I unsubbed from Flamu and sadly now Zoup if they are unable to speak their thoughts on the product as independent COMMUNITY contributors then they more or less just become advertising platforms. Also ceased playing so no need to watch them anymore now anyway.
Im on the fence with this ship: Didnt really like the Donskoi. Have Moskva and will have Stalingrad with next coupon refresh. Is Petropavlovsk a good addition or will Nevski will do the trick, expecially since I dont have the Worcester?? Help a fellow potato! :D
TheLoomit they are very distinct ships. Nievsky is more of a dd hunter/bb farmer with the option of having great AP against cruisers should the opportunity come. Petropavlosk is more of cruiser killer like the Stalingrad. The question is what you want to play?
**See's that the video doesn't have WIP** **Starts hyperventilating** oh shit oh fuck oh fuck oh shit REEEEE DEATH COMES FOR US ALL **jumps off bridge**
That Icebreaker is unfair, long range, basically op gun 12.5km radar and it has so much tools for most situation, just remove all the other Nations and only Russian paper ships for the game!
If you've played the ship, you'd know that its ice breaker isn't noticeable. In fact this ship has very very bad armor and will take a lot of damage from all sources. It therefore needs good guns to make up for the poor handling and poor armor. It also does not have 12.5km radar. No ship does. It's 12 km. And it has no other tools besides hydro and DFAA, which every other cruiser has. And it has pretty bad concealment for such a squishy ship. Not overpowered at all. And for the record, the majority of tier 10 ships are paper. Montana, Henri IV, Republique, Bourgogne, Goliath, Minotaur, Conqueror, Thunderer, Zao, Yoshino, Shikishima, etc. It's not a Russian thing.
@@JustSomeGuyWithNoMaidens I have to agree. While yes, the damage potential is massive and it seems like on the offense it can do what Moskva and Des Moines can do in terms of AP-Power, combined with what Zao can do with HE (fire starting and dpm). However facing this ship, I have noticed that is quite squishy, and the icebreaker and layered armour isn't really noticable. I scored various citadels on Nevskys, some from really weird angles. I am not quite sure yet, if it is overpowered. It sure is really strong tho, and definitly power-creeping many ships.
Mwi O I mean with 19km range you don’t have to take hits and shave them off, just play with your throttle at range and you’re completely fine, sorry but this ship has way too many tools. Maybe they’ll nerf the AA just like kreml yay
@@titenfall9788 its a shit show every match and for some reason i keep getting into 4 CV matches often now, DDs are nonexistent, anything that has Bad AA or bad concealment just gets shit on by these OP ballistic russian "Light cruisers" with 180mm guns(its just fucking 23mm difference in shell size compared to a heavy cruiser ffs) that reloads like DESMOINES but is 200% better all around
You sure it doesn't have better pen angles? I've citadeled cruisers in training at a little over 35 degrees. Tested on different cruisers and it didn't matter.
Everyone hates this ship for being op yet i dont see it in pro play..Saw the last king of the seas and there are still venezias, goliaths, even worcesters..Petropavlovsk on the other hand is extremely dominant in pro play, saw a match with 4 (maybe 5 cant recall) of them on a single team. Also this one of my favourite ships to hit between 12-16 km range with my zao, a couple of good HE shots and its half health.
@@cristianfatu2088 that class has 152mm guns not 180mm guns. It has 118k shp not 180k shp. If that's the ship...it should be slower and have less firepower.
@@cristianfatu2088 If only they put that ship in the game. But that wouldn't be good enough to represent Mother Russia. Gotta make it better than it really was, just like every Russian ship in this game.
