Nice work ! as a first year apprentice mechanic I was sent to assist the new panel beater, the job was bottom half wings on an Interceptor. He carefully marked where to cut and hacked off the old wings with straight snips, an inch too high. Boss exploded, panel beater fired....
😆 that's funny. Definitely a costly mistake that one. I saw some pictures last week from a friend who's just tried a new bodywork guy. First job, new arches on a vw t4, he also cut too high and was trying to weld a 10mm gap. He didn't last. You been working on any of your project cars lately ?
@@bensclassicbodywork Nope, no progress on any of my toys. Too busy working elsewhere, follow the money. Just to add to the Interceptor story, this was pre MIG, so the missing inch and new panels had to be gas welded.
Ah yes the pre mig days! That adds to the job significantly. Can't imagine not having a mig welder. It's hard enough sometimes getting a mig torch into an area. It would be impossible getting a torch and filler rod into those areas. Not sure what you would do in that case.
It's the only option sometimes but actually get's used quite often. It will also allow you to temporarily fit a panel and still close a door for example, where a clamp would prohibit this. 👍👍

@@jameshamm7167 The screws only hold the panel temporarily so that welding can be carried out. The rust protection of the screw isn't required in this case as they get removed.
Thanks for the video. This car is lucky it will be rescued. Can we expect more videos from E90 CSL? Maybe even initial stage slideshow like movie? That could be interesting for some and could bring you more watchers. Greetings
Hi, there will definitely be more on the CSL with the owners permission. I'm sure I have earlier photos to put Into a slideshow the only trouble is they will be portrait and not so good on a landscape RU-vid video. Perhaps I can add them into the next video so you have for the most part a decent sized viewing screen but info on the restoration work previously done.
Love the work and the humour - a big bonus. Only complaint is I wish they were a bit longer, you've done the opposite of the self-indulgent twaddle, but I could certainly bear them longer and there's never too much detail. Fancy doing another Spider?!

I got roped into doing a weeks graft at a Stag restorers (long story) I could only give a week because I was busy I did one of a car I was using patch panels there was no rear inner sill panel so made onw to fit , the boss seen it and asked if I could make a few up for sale , I said no but I no a lad desperate for work so took it to him , I was told he did not want my cast off job , I thought well stuff you then mate , what a prick I already pulled him out the poo once never again though .
