Just have to point out, you’re the person I always watch first on yt and I aways look forward for your videos, you don’t read only the popular books, you value books that are ‘old’ and don’t just follow trends, you speak honestly and I respect that more than anything. Really wish there were more similar to you. I didn’t notice you ever mention some kind of sponsor, maybe you just don’t want to have them but if anything, your audience, which is pretty mature I’m guessing, would be really happy if you also made some money from these videos, you put in a lot of work and you deserve it. Also, more books hehe, lots of love from Serbia

The Nightingale was a bit out of my comfort zone but after reading it I literally think about it all the time. I am in love with this story! You get to know the characters so well while still trying to keep up with the fast plot. A little romance/love interest that adds an extra element (don't worry it isnt a full on romance). Yes...i love that book

The Rithmatist is heaps better than The Reckoners. Alcatraz has a sort-of-unlikeable protagonist, but it's actually great. And Reckoners book two was wonderful :D edit: and if I may fangirl about some of the bottom fantasy shelf authors - Pratchett, Nix, Stroud, Pierce, and Kay are some of the best in the genre. Nix, Stroud, Pierce and middle-grade / YA, but are downright amazing. Kay's Tigana brought me to tears every time I read it. I don't remember if you liked Gaiman or not, but read American Gods before Anansi Boys if you haven't yet. And Anne Rice is practically a classic author by now, and writes amazing vampire novels. This is The Witching Hour tho, and I haven't read that yet XD I hope you like at least some of these, because they are my faves

Hayyelle yeah, I agree about the Rithmatist. Even though Sanderson is probably the most recommended fantasy author currently, I think The Rithmatist is his most underrated story.

To Be Taught if Fortunate, John Dies at The End, and The Book Thief should be prioritized! Oh, and I know you've heard this a million thousand and fifty times, but the best thing to read to get you through these weird times is the Stormlight Archive. I recommend The Last Wish (the first book of the Witcher series). It's a collection of short stories and is fun/easy to read! The Black Company was horribly paced. All of the action happens off screen (or is it off page?) and it's basically just the characters reacting to stuff that happened. This is the gist of it: "Woah that battle was crazy!" 1 paragraph later "Woah that second battle was wild!" 2 paragraphs later "Wow that third battle was insane!" And you never see the battles :'( The Age of Myth (on your second shelf), I couldn't get past the first 100 pages. Not bad, but nothing really good, just found myself bored. You have to read The Eye of the World! It's such a classic and a great introduction to The Wheel of Time. This book itself is reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings, but it has to be put into context that at the time it was published those were the only types of books that would be published in the fantasy series. The magic system is unique, and the characters are interesting. The Shadow of the Wind is so wonderful. The prose is beautiful and you find yourself immersed in Spain during the post-war era The Great Gatsby is always a classic book that is easy to digest and sumptuous to read The Left Hand of Darkness is great! You have to read The Shining, especially given the quarantine! It's my second favorite King book, after It. Pet Sematary is also great, probably the most bleak of his books Gone Girl is a modern classic, and even if you've seen the film you can't put it down! The Haunting of Hill House is good. Interesting, but a little tiresome. If you want to get a short book read for your Goodreads challenge, that's a good one. Sorry this was a lot, but you have a lot of books that are so good!

Unkindness of Magicians is really good and I think more adult than ya. Also I've been reading the wheel of time for years and really enjoying it, but it takes time as it's too damn long and also so good but it is definitely not for everyone so I'm not sure if you would like it or not. so it's been a while since I've read the completed Sabriel series, but that ending in the trilogy (now with a fourth actually) broke my heart, it is solo worth the 3 book read, and Sabriel itself is really worth it. I read it when I was young and I still find the magic system quite unique.

Hi, Emily. I really liked The Lies of Locke Lamora, but it can be slow moving. Not a bad thing, but that’s the kind of thing I like knowing up front. I love, love the Joe Abercrombie trilogy, The First Law. I think it is a series that many readers of young adult fantasy don’t enjoy. It is gritty and brutal with morally gray characters, but I also found it darkly humorous. The books are really well paced in my opinion. The Sparrow is also one of my all time favorites, just to give you an idea of a book we both love. The Old Man’s War series by John Scalzi is a fast paced, fun read. I think you would like it. Ursula K. Le Guin is my favorite author. She was a beautiful writer and her stories are so profoundly human, so humane. The beginning of The Left Hand of Darkness puts some people off, but if you pick up this book, persevere and you will be richly rewarded. Some classics don’t stand the test of time, this book does. I have read most of her scientific fiction, and although I haven’t loved everything by her, it has definitely cemented her as a legend in the field, surpassing most, if not all, her male counterparts, in my opinion. I’ll stop raving now.

It has excellent characters, it's so compelling, there's a truly incredible library in the second book, and the original three are one of favourite series ever. 11:23 Conceptually Blindsight is totally hard(core) sci-fi to it's bones and seems to be a love it or hate it affair. I'm in the former camp, it's one of my absolute favourite sci-fis along with Simmon's Hyperion and Wolfe's Book of the New Sun which I see (at least vol 1) are also on your shelves. They're the three books (series) in your whole collection I'm most eager on hearing your thoughts on (if/when you ever get around to them) more than even the long-awaited Children of Ruin! I have Hyperion on my shelf and have a feeling that I will really appreciate it, but also that it will take an emotional toll, so I keep putting it off. I read the first book in Wolfe’s series and didn’t get into it, but I’ve been thinking of trying again.
@purplepothos5794
@purplepothos5794 4 года назад
@@aliciacampos5789 Hyperion is a book that I think a lot of people will easily get into (compared to Wolfe's work), the way the narrative is structured will offer something for everyone so will indeed likely give you some emotional feels (or even chills) at one point or another. If you ever do get around to it don't forget the sequel Fall of Hyperion if you don't know about it already, it's literally one book cut into two parts so is absolutely indispensable to concluding the story. Definitely can agree Wolfe's work is not easy to get into, the surface-level narrative can come across rather pedestrian and uneventful, but it's a book that I find excels outside that surface-level narrative; it's quite heavily layered and thematically allusory but as a result if you're not interested in the story or style of 'flowery' prose (as I heard it being described as once) it definitely comes across as boring, pretentious and impenetrable. If you didn't get into the story before I'd suggest perhaps in your future attempt to keep in mind that it's not an epic or grand adventure like other fantasies, definitely more about the journey than the destination.

That bit near the start of the first book she was like "I like Merecot" and people were like "she's kinda bitchy" and then Daleina goes "yeah... I still like her". My fucking favourite. Also how she deals with conflict so pragmatically is my most favourite thing. I know a lot og people prefer the second main character which I really do get but I'm always going to be more interested in someone who has to find ways to compensate for their weaknesses compared to someone who doesn't particularly have any.

Physics of the future sounds pretty interesting. I am currently reading Physics of the Impossible and it is pretty cool to see how far or close we are from concepts such as teleportation and other things done in sci-fi

To echo other comments, The Rithmatist is surprisingly good! Really the only thing that I didn't like is there's no sequel out yet...but still worth reading!

Very random, but I saw you had Hyperion. I was never sure if I liked Science Fiction, but Hyperion flipped a switch. Still think about the Shrike when the lights are off. 🤣 Excellent to get to see some of your anticipated reads! À bientôt !

Be ready to ugly cry when you read The Knife of Never Letting Go. I don’t cry easily, but Patrick Ness can get me.

As far as your taste, you will LOVE the lies of Locke Lamora, The name of the wind and The Emperor's Blades. I was one of the people that recommended you Nevernight, so I guess I might have a point... :D

You haven't read The Princess Bride! 😱 it is absolutely wonderful, it has a nostalgic feel, a great adventure and is just really funny (you can skip some parts depending on the edition you have)

From the ones I saw, I would highly recommend The Girl With the Dragon tatoo (much better than average thriller, especially the second book) and The First Law Trilogy (best grimdark fantasy with incredible character work)!

So many of my favorites there! Definitely you should read The Terror by Dan Simmons. It's been over a year since I read it and I still think about it.

Three parts dead is weird in a good way. Story is ok, but you mostly read it because the world is so unique - I mean corporate necromancy? Come on. Story is self-contained in book one enough so that you don't feel compelled to read the whole cycle. Lies of Locke Lamora is one of the best books I've read, even though it has a very mediocre first chapter or so. Plow through it and you won't regret it. Colour of magic was fun for me, but is agreed among fans as not the book to start with, because of just how good Going Postal is. Cat's Cradle is great, but Sirens of Titans is even better imho. Last Wish is allright, Sword of Destiny is better, but they're mostly short story collection entry into great novel series. I'm jealous about bookshelf, but also, we have overlapping tbr. High five!
