I guess people were not expecting Portugal to win, especially with a gentle song, performed in our national language. Well not only Portugal won, it also has the record for the highest score ever. And even without the national juries, Portugal would have won the contest. This means that the majority of the public liked the song and wanted Portugal to win. Nothing else needs to be said.
@Fabian81 Unfortunately, the reign of "revenge pop" didnt last long. In 2019, a pop song with simple and minimalistic staging featuring the artist singing on a piano with just some lights. As Salvador said, no fireworks, just feelings. And oh, thanks to the cancellation of the 2020 contest, he remains as the only winner to reign for 2 years. And for this year, a rock song won with only 3 pop songs in the top 10: the highest was 7th (not even in the top 5), and the other one of the many fan favorite pop songs that performed poorly in the televote in the final. So down with your "revenge pop"!
9:45 Estamos orgullosos de nuestros vecinos !! Gracias Portugal por esta maravillosa canción ... siempre serais nuestros hermanos ! España te ama. Felicitaciones 🇪🇸❤️🇵🇹
Countries hated every year by jury:Romania, Hungary, Poland Countries loved every year by the jury:Australia, Malta, Australia, did I mention Australia? ?
Yeah, you did mention Australia - a lot. Why is that? Oh maybe it is because the song and the singer is that damn good and that y'all have to lift your game with better quality songs and singers. The results are in, the jury and people voted and now you and others are bitching because the votes did not match with your own list. So stop acting like f***ing 6 year olds having a temper tantrum.
the theme of this year was "Celebrate Diversity" and for me Portugal was one of the few countries who hadn't a generic pop music like most of the countries
The nordic countries mostly gives Sweden 8-12 points but not every year... and Sweden almost never gives their neighbours high scores (except if they have really good songs) So Yeah, not the same thing.
@@laki991srb and compared to the Cyprus/Greece thing... it’s not even a similar situation. Greece and Cyprus often only get 1 12 points and that’s from eachother meanwhile Sweden etc always gets high points from most juries.
Loved Lucie's reaction to the 12p from Australia. The televote score was an insult to many countries. Austria, UK, Netherlands deserved FAR more than they received.
Lucie's reaction is the whole UK whenever we get even 1 point, but 12 points was fantastic news, especially considering we rarely get them in recent years.
Gui Marques You had to wait more than half a century for a victory, haha. Maybe you will be lucky again in 2067, who knows. Personally, I think this will be the first and LAST win for Portugal. It will never happen again. So, enjoy it as much as you can.
We are "arrogant" because we don't like to see other people bashing down our country. As If bashing down other countries wasnt arrogant enough... I love the fact that people can't stand the fact that Salvador criticised modern day music, still they called his music "boring" in the first place. Hipocrisy!!
Quaver Records thank god it's your personal opinion which worths very little. Yes we waited more than 50 years to win, thanks to many underrated portuguese songs. Maybe we can give more surprises in the near future. Belgium doesn't win since 1986 (only time). Germany had to wait 28 years for its second victory, Austria waited 48 years for its second victlory. So what?!
I don't really get what people are complaining about... Is it because that Portugal received the highest amount of points from the national juries? If that's the case, I think we should not forget that Portugal has also received the highest amount of points from the televoters. Maybe complaining about the final results is just part the ESC tradition...
This jury voting was a completely mess! Cyprus gave 12 points to Greece, Moldova 12 points to Romania, Denmark and Finland 12 points to sweden! Unfair!
ZeltaZ I hated the Greece-Cyprus thing. I understand if its like that in televote, but juries?!? aren't they supposed to be professional and not be biased?
For those who are angry , say, Portugal won fairly !! She received first place from the jury and first place from the audience !! So that Portugal won honestly , the Eurovision song contest 2018 will be held in Lisbon !! That's about it . I congratulate El Salvador , Louise and all the Portuguese victory !! :3
I could understand how neighbouring countries gave each other points because of the televotes but PROFESSIONAL juries should really do better than that! I think finally it's time to eliminate the juries!
That’s because Sweden got 344 points from all over Europe, Cyprus got 68 points 24 (more than 1/3) from Greece. That means that Cypriot song sucked, the Swedish song was good/okay, if it received 42 points less, without the votes from Denmark and Finland, nothing would change (they would end up 6th instead of 5th). Now do you understand the difference? Greece would give 24 points to Cyprus even if Cyprus made a farting exhibition instead of singing. The same is true for Greece, it got 77 points, 24 from Greece (a bit less than 1/3). All Europe thought it was trash, Cyprus chose it as the absolute winner; it’s just ridiculous. Btw Finland gave more points to the winner (Portugal), than Sweden.
Viewers and juries had the same favorite This is really surprising me So happy about Portugal's win It's not a song I'm going to listen to a lot to be honest but in this moment in the contest it was the choice I had to make Salvador's song goes straight to the heart and it was simply magical and I am so happy that his emotions got carried so beautifully to many people in the audience There were many good songs in this competition that I will not stop listening to; all in all ESC 2017 was a great event ☺
LMAO @1:47 when your entire country's population is in Kiev for the Eurovision and the points presenter needs cardboard figures to not feel alone @San Marino
All these angry people...It's so sad.Portugal won by far with the Juries and the voters and it was totally deserved. But people are still such assholes...What is humanity about to become?
Albania and Malta..like the friends are always with you, no matter what. Thanks guys💕 from Italy.. and so happy italy gave 12p to Azerbaijan. She was great! Deserved lot more
The most heartbreaking thing about the jury vote was how emotional the Israeli spokesperson was getting with their national broadcaster shutting down 😢💔
@@KayKay-fm4hg You're mistaken. Israel wasn't leaving, it was their old channel IBA, because they closed down after Eurovision 2017. They were replaced with KAN, and you know the rest.
ikr! If you look at the aparent "televoting" (if you consider it non-biased), Hungary's song came in 7th, while in the jury vote it came as one of the last, so clearly something has got to be done with the difference of televoting vs jurries
I honestly cant stand the fact of how Salvador mocks the reactions of countries receive their points in the early part of the voting segment, then he cant even be bothered to look at the camera or express thanks for his votes. Literally he took this entire contest as one big joke even mocking the competition & the type of music that tends to be shown on it. It was utterly disrespectful. One of my least favourite winners ever.
Jan Klika Yes, because only Greece and Cyprus vote like that... The Nordics don't vote for another nordic and Spain doesn't vote for Portugal and Moldova doesn't vote for Romania, etc etc
I'd like to point out how touching was Ofer Nachshon's speech (Israeli everlasting spokesperson). It's just one of those moments you don't even think about points, failures or everything else. It's a moment to respect.
It really is, it touched my heart in a symbolic way. Fortunately, the IBA got replaced with Kan (which let Israel win in 2018 and host in 2019), so all is well.
You didn't like the song? All good. But don't be so envious and act like what Salvador accomplished wasn't amazing. He didn't lie when he said that we live in a world that consumes fast food music. In fact, every comment that downplays his work fuels his narrative. Eurovision is a party that celebrates the cultural diversity of each country. The artistic ability of each one. Did he not do that? Did he not play with the difference and do something entirely different from what we're used to see? To say that it did not stand out when every year we have the same characteristics is ridiculous. One of the few who sang in his own language, who won without having to do something insane, had a microphone and a tiny stage and captivated a sea of people in the most beautiful way possible. It wasn't explosive, it wasn't ridiculous, but it was gentle, kind, and thoughtful. It was the simplicity of the act that yielded the connection with the audience. Oh and that gorgeous opening that makes you elevate for being soo dreamy. I totally believe had it been sung in English it wouldn't have been so disrespected. And if you can't see the genuineness in that naked and transparent feeling then go figure.
yes, I myself didn't expect it either. Such a heartwarming gesture after so many years... Maybe now we can hug it out like the brothers and sisters we actually are! Thank you! It takes so little to reignite our love for you, Macedonia (not that the 'fire' was ever out)! I love you! Your message reached our hearts, I hope our reaches yours as well!
AustrianEurovision no I'm not talking about Portugal and Bulgaria 😅 for example Denmark: 12 points to... Sweden wow that's a real coincidence. Same goes for Greece 12 points to Cyprus. And that the televoters do that is typical, that's why they got juries. But now the juries do the same thing😑
Asiática português He obviously knows that Portugal won (even though Bulgaria was better in my opinion). The guy that was talked about preformed on the esc in 2007 and got 2nd place! He’s one of the people that created esc history... He’s a true winner and really funny! 17:16 is when he appears
As a Portuguesa wathing this for like the first time, cuz I was a kid back in time, it's just so amazing, I literally cry❤ So greatfull I had the chance to see him singing that amazing song in my beuttyfull city Braga✨️
For all you complaining about Greece - Cyprus. All Europe voted the neighbours and no Greece and Cyprus. So Greece and Cyprus voted each other as well. Greece- Cyprus forever brothers. Cry.
All this complaining is so unnecessary. Portugal won Jury and Televote, so he is the right winner. Of course it was not everybody's favorite, but the majority voted for him. And everyone who didn't vote should not complain about the winner at all.
I thought the jury was giving points based on vocal performance and the song in general...not otherwise. Disclaimer: Congratulations Portugal on the victory overall. You did great. See ya in Lisabon next year.
Bulgaria did it so well as always after came back since Poli Genova 2016 and Kristian 2017 they both took place in top5. i think we can see ESC in Sofia soon.
Portugal won with the highest score ever, 785 points, and a huge difference. He won jury vote, won europe people televote. Just a simple and a heartbreaking song. Much more you listen, much more you love the song.
Look, the juries are supposed to be professianal. But they're not. Greece gives 12 points to Cyprus, Cyprus to Greece. What's that? That's what usually televoters do, vote for the countries not for the songs. Okay, we can't change it with the televoting. But what are juries for? They should stay fair and politically neutral. For the second year in a row juries spoiled everything!
Sanja Vucic: Represented Serbia on ESC 2016, Showed on ESC 2017, came back but in group, Representing Serbia in 2021. And also Ksenija who is also member of group. Her dad represented Montenegro on ESC in 2016.
i dont think people should judge the portugal song this way. alright, i can understand a lot of people didnt like it, but even more viewers loved that performance. and even if your favourite one didnt win and even if the winner in your opinion is one of fhe worst, you should respect every single artist in this show. dont be rude. btw congratz to Portugal❤
So many people say that the ESC is changing because of first Jamala and now Salvador. But the whole contest changed since The Common Linnets in 2014. No question about that..
Sweden 2012 and The Netherlands 2014 have had a massive impact on the competition (for the good imo) It used to be tacky in the 2000's but now there are actually quality acts and songs.
Exactly! But before 2014, everyone in some way or another presented their culture on Eurovision. Now everyone tries too hard to be modern and radio friendly, which causes them to sacrifice their cultural identity in the process. At least now with Jamala and Salvador, more countries might start presenting their culture again and find a balance between culture and quality.
Κωστας Κοθρας what are you talking about? Sweden gave most points to Portugal (22), Moldova (16), Bulgaria (14) and Belgium (13); Norway gave most points to Portugal (22), Bulgaria (20), Sweden (11) and Romania (10); Iceland gave most points to Portugal (24), Sweden (16), Italy (12), Belgium (12); Finland gave most points to Portugal (20), Sweden (18), Italy (15), Bulgaria (13). Only Denmark gave 24 points to Sweden, 15 to Portugal, 14 to Bulgaria. They didn’t vote for each other at all! They just voted for Sweden, but all Europe voted for Sweden (it was in the top5) and almost no one gave it most points (Only Denmark). Greece and Cyprus gave each other 24 points, this is beyond reasonable, since both scored so low (no one liked them all around Europe).
I can't see the reason you only conplain about Greece and Cyprus. You should complain about the contest it's self. EVERY YEAR the contest is FIXED for everyone to vote ONE country. HOW THE HELL can EVERYONE like ONE song? EVERY YEAR, EVERYONE votes ONE country. Portugal, Sweeden, Denmark, Austria. It becomes clear who the winner will be even WEEKS before the contest. Where is the suspence of 2000's and oldest Eurovisions? Think about it. Think how the whole thing is FIXED and stop complaining about 2 votes.
It’s amazing how much the popularities can change From the juries Moldova got 11 more than the uk and Belgium got 9 Moldova got 3rd, Belgium got 4th and the uk got 15th
I was 13 that year I was so proud of the uk that year we did really well stayed on the left hand side of the board and got a pretty high score which was pretty good for the uk
