Salvador Sobral from Portugal won the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv with the song Amar Pelos Dois. Look back at the exciting televoting sequence.
''With zero points, it is Austria'' ooooooooh........ ''With two points, it is Australia'' OOOOOOOOH..... ''With three points, it is Germany'' yaaaaay!
I think the way it was done this year (2021) was much better. Here you already knew that Portugal would get a huge amount if they are still there waiting near the end, no matter what others got.
Yep! As a matter of fact, 2017 was the last year using this method! Since 2019 ESC the tele-votes' votes are given following the order of jury's votes, from the lasts all the way to the tops! I'd like to think it is because the reason you just gave, but I'm not sure about it 🤷♂️
I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have mad that much difference Portugal would’ve still been leading until Bulgaria got their points. The question wouldve been if Portugal would have had enough.
There were much better and much more deserving songs this year(Sweden,U.K.,Denmark,Moldova,Azerbeijan,Norway,Belarus,Bulgaria)then Portugal. He clearly won because he is ill.
VolumePerfection: and so what ? Bulgaria's song was lame, it didn't deserve to win (although it was relatively good). The injusticies this year were Georgia and Finland left unqualified, and France not receiving their deserved top 3 position.
OMG..Moldova 3 place???? This is the best result ever!!! Proud of my country😆😆 Thank you so much for all people that vooted for my country...I am soo haaaaapyy
I'm spanish (yeah, last ones) and I am so so happy for Portugal, amazing song, staging, singer... This song has quickly become one of my favourite entries ever, showing that what real matters is music. Stop hating on the winner, it was well deserved. Go Portugal!
@Alexandre Reis They're just quoting, as in haters would say something like "BULGARIA IS THE REAL WINNER". I don't think that's what they meant personally.
3 years later, I must say that it was so exciting to see Portugal winning and to have the opportunity to see eurovision live in the next year. This is something we must thank Luisa and Salvador, they did a great job representing Portugal. ❤
I know this is ridiculous. I think ESC doesn't need juries only televoting. People are more curious of the million people's opinion than the few "music expert" juries. I also don't understand why did we must listened to for 40 minutes the opinion of the jury and could't see wich country's televoters gave points to wich country. As a hungarian it didn't feel good to hear the lack of points from the jury. I think it was the same for you Croatia. And surprise!!! The televoters loved us a lot. :)
Maric T. Croatia is so overated it was the only yougoslav country in this final so he recieved 12 points from others yougoslav countries (montenegro serbia Slovenia Macedonia Albania. ...)
i can see that some of you can't figure out what happened here .. let me explain ... 382 points from juries .. 376 points from televoting .. that's 758 point in total .. well deserved .. congratulation to Salvador .. amazing song .. amazing man
Austria (nice song, but with the early running order would of been forgotten about as it had no wow factor about it), (Israel, not as strong as his semi final performance, but still should of scored more) UK and The Netherlands definitely should of scored a lot better, maybe the performances were a bit too dramatic for the audience.
Even if the song was poor, they did a great show. All my family voted for them and some friends loved them too. And it's from Belgium, the country that finished just behind Moldova... Moldova deserved it :D
Top 3 is rather fair. Portugal's song is an instant classic with a magnificient melody, Bulgaria was an impressive sophisticated pop song with a singer who will have a brillant carreer thanks to his talent and Moldova was pure fun and party. Se do not care who won in the end. We had a great show of good songs of many genres. Belgium was sophisticated, Azerbaidjan was dark and experimental (and she slayed vocally), Armenia was an excellent show, Austria sang really well, so did Cyprus and Australia. And Netherlands! Israel and Greece had very good party songs. I could go on.. This year has been great and the final winner is somewhat irrelevant (that's also the message of the Sobral siblings).
@@melitahansen4524 For Italy it was true in 2011-2013 only. In 2014, they were 20th with jury, and in 2018 they were 17th (they ranked top 5 only because of the televote). And this year, it's not even true for Sweden and Australia anymore.
Congratulations to Luísa and Salvador, Portugal deserves the win! The song as well as the singer are incredible and were one of the best in this evening.
I love it how Portugal started with 12 points in 1st place and only lost it for 1 second because of the televote from Bulgaria, but no other moment he left the 1st spot
Austria 0 points? It was amazing! UK 12? the only time I'm proud of my country and we get robbed! This voting is ridiculous. Still, well done Portugal!
Luisa's reaction when Salvador won was so amazing, she is an amazing composer and it was nice to see her perform on stage with Salvador, a beautiful song and one of my favourite winners.
CONGRATS PORTUGAL ! THIS IS A WELL-DESERVED WIN ! ❤️ SALVADOR YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME AND CONTINUE TO INSPIRE ME ❤️THANK YOU "I wanna say that we live in a word of disposable music, fast food music without any content and I think this could be a victory for music with people that make music that actually means something.Music is not fireworks, music is feeling, so let's try to change this and bring music back which is what really matters."
Even 3 years later I still don't get why : Austria received 0 points. The Netherlands received 15 points. The UK received 12 points. At least televote crowned Portugal and saved France from an unfair result, i'll take it. These songs are marvelous. But I really wanna know what was on the mind of the televote that day. Like WTF.
Still 16th Austria have got 0 televotes points twice in 3 last years, also in 2015... only in 2016 it was really appreciated by televoters. Seems like same goes for Czech Republic, if it were for jury they easily qualified.
Shame on you Europe!!! Austria deserves more than 0 points from the televoting!! Nathan is the most likeable, happiest, charming person on the whole planet!! He really deserves better!!
+Eloygy1234 Plays Australia have the worst entries each year, they deserved the bottom of the televotes this year and last year. And...no. Australia can't be better than him if they never get anything from the REAL people of Eurovision. Besides, you're not even in the same geographical continent as the rest of us.
I'm very happy that Portugal won, but the amazing thing is that all TOP 3 countries achieved their best results ever. So congrats Bulgaria and Moldova.
Even more than that. Their televote alone was higher than every other country's combined vote, except Bulgaria. It seems pretty clear from that that Portugal deserved to win and Bulgaria were deserved runners-up.
I don't really get what people are complaining about... Why does everyone feel so robbed? Last time I've checked, Portugal received the highest amount of points from the televoters. I guess that complaining about the final results is a part the ESC tradition...
At least Portugal won both the jury voting AND the televoting. Not like last year when Australia won the jury voting (but 4th in televoting), Russia won televoting (but 5th in jury voting), and Ukraine finished 2nd in both jury and televoting yet won overall.
Perhaps I'm a bit biased being Austrian, but no country (NO ONE!) should deserve zero points in the new televoting system - that's downright cruel and humiliating. I felt so bad for Gabriella last year, and seeing such a charming and positive guy like Nathan getting nothing this year broke my heart. :( But on the other hand, a 16th place is so much more than many of us expected, we're so proud of you!
See my detailed account earlier up the page for how the televoting works. Under the voting system introduced in 2016, i.e. every country giving two separate sets of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,12 (one set for jury voting and one set for televoting), it is in theory possible for a country to win the jury voting with a record-breaking score for one set of points alone (i.e. more than the 387 points Alexander Rybak got in 2009) and then finish last with zero points in televoting - or vice versa.
Portugal was the best ! Such an emotional song ! Well deserved winner ! All you haters have no taste in music ! Amar pelos dois is pure gold ! Go back to your commercial music ! The jury voted and the public chose! I hope one day music industry will have many more emotional songs like this !
Still find amazing both Bulgaria and Moldova getting the best results ever in the city that also hosted in the year of their debut. Also Portugal did exactly the same as Greece for winning the Euro Cup an year prior against the home team and winning Eurovision in Kyiv, Ukraine!
sag ich nicht You're welcome. We are very happy about that, we were wanting points for Germany for be us in the very last place. The questiom here is; why 5 points? We were expecting 0, sounds like a joke i know but is the truth
You guys need to chill.. Portugal won fair, this is a contest meant to unite europe not divide it. You guys are acting like a bunch of 12 year olds. Be happy for portugal for finally winning after trying for soo long.. Gnight Europe
So every year the winner is just going to be spammed with dislikes?!?! WTF get over yourselves, everyone in the Top 12 deserved to win but there can only be one winner! If you don't like the Portuguese song the most then go support and follow the songs you DID like.... That's what Eurovision is about; giving a platform for artists that wouldn't otherwise be heard internationally so please just stop hating ffs.
Great show tonight. Although I voted for Bulgaria, I'm glad Portugal won, they have been waiting 52 years to win, I bet Portuguese fans had given up any hope of ever winning it years ago, and it's nice that such a deep, meaningful and emotional song did so well, winning both the national juries and public votes which hardly ever happens.🇵🇹🎤🏆Bulgaria can also be proud at coming a close 2nd with their best ever result and finishing in the top 5 for the second year in a row. 🇧🇬 👍
What a day for Portugal !!! Pope Francis in Fátima, Benfica wins the Portuguese League for the fourth time in a row, and #Salvadorable wins the Eurovision !!!!
I'll never get over the fact that Portugal's first victory at ESC, after 53 in the contest, was thanks to Salvador, which literally means "Savior" in Portuguese 😂It's clearly never happening again, at least not any time soon, so he really was Portugal's savior in this contest
Im loving the salt XD Portugal won the jury, won the televoters, and was always on the top 3 on betting sites. Haters reaction? BULGARIA IS THE REAL WINNER!!! LOL
I watched the final live on austrian television, the moderator was so shocked that Austria got 0 points from the viewers, he could talk for seconds, but still it was so funny! !!
