Alone In The Woods | Isle Royale Wilderness
In this USA travel vlog, we begin our challenge of visiting every US National Park with a bang - with our first one being Isle Royale! This remote, island wilderness was the perfect first NP and exceeded all expectations.
As this island is so remote, it is only accessible via seaplane or boat - which we shared in last week's video. While we were here, we barely saw anyone else. It truly felt like we were alone in the woods.
In this video we explore Isle Royale National Park. Enjoying the gorgeous and varied hiking trails as well as having some bucket list wildlife encounters!

Welcome to the official Travel Beans RU-vid channel! On this channel, you’ll find a variety of travel and vlog content, in which you’ll see us in places like Thailand, Japan, USA, Slovenia, and more.
In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

I’m so thrilled that you were able to come back and have these adventures. I don’t think Americans realize how unique it is to have so many diverse landscapes and so much protected wilderness within our own borders. I cannot wait to keep experiencing my country through your eyes.

I too am glad you Travel Beans have been able to return to The USA and find a nice Class B Motorhome to enjoy The USA and I'm looking forward to your continued adventures of places in my own country I probably didn't know were there and haven't visited. I am certainly one who does appreciate the landscapes our country offers. One needs only to abandon the interstates and get on the 2-lane highways. I personally crave solitude and the wild places ever since I was a child.

Great episode and Amazing Moose encounter!! Reminds me of the time I was at a Wedding at a resort in Uclulet on Vancouver Island. Having told the Hotel staff one of my bucket list experiences was to see Orca's in the Wild. I turned up at the Hotel Cocktail bar, sat at the window overlooking the bay Negroni in hand and lo and behold a pod of Orca (with baby) came swimming past before I even took a sip! They said that's never happened the whole 12 years they'd been there. That's the best Negroni I ever had. Felt like a lottery moment! 🤯🦨🦦🦆🐿🙌

You guys are so wonderful, enjoyed this video immensely! I've lived in Northern ONtario, and seen lots of moose, so you were too cute about seeing it! The otters would have had a thick large tail if they were beavers, that's how to tell the difference in that lighting. The sunsets are amazing here (I live in Windsor, across from Detroit, and we have those amazing sunsets every night....why you ask? pollution). So, your sunset was so amazing, with those colours, due to the refracting of light through pollution particulates. But it does give us amazing beauty! ps don't approach a moose, stay far away if you can. They are actually a dangerous animal, or can be.

Dear Beans: love your enthusiasm for wildlife and the natural world. Two days ago, we returned from a nearly 3-week road-trip from Irvine, CA (in our Jeep with roof top tent) to: Nevada to see Grand Basin National Park (NP); then Wyoming: Tetons & Yellowston NPs; Montana: Glacier NP; Washington: North Cascades NP; Oregon: Crater Lake NP; with a finish in Monterey Bay, CA to see whales; then a drive down the 1 back home. National Parks are the best thing that humans have created (in any country); there is a palpable magic within them, as they still have the many beings that are now absent in most of the world (our planet now has less than 4% of mammalian wildlife biomass left on it). In Glacier this time we saw 6 bears in one day! One of the bears was a mother with two beautiful cubs; we saw a red fox in Tetons (the first I've ever seen in America); we saw/heard elk buggling (they do that in the Autumn); deer, pronghorn, many birds; gorgeous landscapes, hikes, winding roads; in-short, there is nothing more beautiful than feeling that emotion from within when in these places that connects you to all that is around you; I know exactly how you feel, as nothing makes me happier than seeing wildlife. This is the second time we visit Yellowston and Tetons (the first time we also saw grizzly bears & black bears, coyotes, wolves, moose & the list goes on; our first time in Yellowston & Tetons was in the spring) this time, in the Autumn. It makes me extremely happy to see that you are both so passionate about the natural world. :) My favourite NPs are Yellowstone/Tetons, Glacier & Yosemite. -- Based on your passion for wildlife, I am wondering if you've seen a documentary called "Eating Our Way to Extinction" (narrated by Kate Winslet). If we had a vegan humanity, we could rewild an area slightly larger than the entire continent of Africa, (if you'd like to see more stats, please visit a website/group called Climate Healers; research by Dr. Sailesh Rao reflects that 87% of global warming is due to animal agriculture) if we were to rewild the area the size of Africa, we could see National Park-esq ecosystems throughout the planet. I know that humans do not like to be told these truths (as they go against popular culture), but, as I can see how much the natural world means to you, I thought you may like to research these things further when you have the time. Another excellent resource: Glen Merzer's book: Food is Climate. (It is intact ecosystems that capture carbon; not Teslas, etc.) Hugs. x PS: we lived in Michigan for 7 years, and visited the Sleeping Bear Dunes nearly every other weekend from Memorial Weekend to October (camping)... we did not make it to Isle Royale, so it was lovely seeing its beauty through your lens!

So thank you for giving me that gift 🙏 My favourite National Park that I've been to so far is probably Pltivice Lakes in Croatia/Slovenia. But there are so many aren't there! And they all offer something unique. So I can't wait to see the rest that you guys get to! :) P.S- You were super brave going out into the heart of the wilderness with literally NO-ONE around for help 😶😵😱 Growing up in Australia with all our massive snakes 🪱 & spiders 🕷.... I would not have been keen on walking around with grass that close to my feet where things that crawl & slither could be hiding! LOL Xx

Hey my Bean-buddies! That was just pure serene magic! Those were scenes from a nature documentary! Especially the sunset and the shots from the waterplane! But believe me! You are soooo in for a treat! There are some incredible spots in the USA! This summer we were at the Mesa Verde National park with the unique historic buildings while you can spot eagles and lizards and deer and more if you are lucky. And we toured the Rocky mountains National park over route 34 (which is only open from June to September) which is the highest road in the USA ! We saw moose and elks and marmots and squirrels there. The we also visited Great Sand Dunes National Park. Totally different from anything else you can visit. Absolutely unique! And ehh Grand Canyon of course. There is SOOOOO much out there and you will see animals you did not know they exist 🙂 About snakes: They are fine.. They will not bother you as long you keep in a distance they can not bite. Most of them are harmless ! And even the rattlesnakes , cottonmouthes, copperheads and coral snakes are not aggressive as long you won't bother them. The ones you have seen until now are garter snakes and they are harmless ; they only poo on you when you grab them ;-)

Yes, Isle Royale is the least visited National Park, but has the highest rate of visitors who are returnees. My favorite place in the US and happens to be my home state. Lots to see in Michigan's UP as well if already up that way. As for staying in cabin like they did, they're only found by Rock Harbor and are often rented out early. There are a few privately owned cabins on the north end as well. Rest of the island there are 36 back country camp grounds which are accessed by hiking. Last time I went Daisy Farm campground was mud quagmire and were walking knee deep in it 😂

I have been blessed to have hiked on Isle Royale with members of our local Scout Troop (1998 and 2015.) Took the ferry over and back from Grand Portage, Minnesota. The Isle is such a beautiful place!

Alex!, I appreciate that you started at marker 4:38 with what you disliked about yourself and the reason behind it being impatient. I say this because I have been married to my wonderful husband for 41 years and I can relate with you. I recognized this in myself later in our marriage, and it was for my good. Maturing in patients is a blessing and it couldn't have come in a better way. I enjoyed watching this Tuesday evening and I hope you both have many more animal encounters.

So beautiful. It makes me so happy to see the both of you experiencing our American wildlife. I forget and take for granted my Western Massachusetts life. Please don't be offended, but you are like little children that have the ability to experience real amazement and joy. I can't wait to live like that again as an adult like the two of you.

My second most favorite NP IS Grand Canyon. We spent a week there and I was in awe of the beauty God has created in this park. It is stunning.

I’m so thrilled for you both to get to see two moose! Two otters and a skunk! Can’t wait til you see my favorite national park Yosemite in California! There’s no place like Yosemite to share the beauty of nature with family. Granite monoliths and giant sequoias bring wonder to all ages.
