Mr M is at it again applying his unorthodox approach to sub building to yet another Custom Build. Three Alpine SWR 1022d completely gutted and upgraded.

Thanks for the vids. I have a 12 that I blew the coils and just past warranty. I reached out to alpine and they will not touch anything that's not under warranty and I cannot find anyone in my state that will work on subs. When I get brave enough I will try to attempt replacing the coils myself. Thanks again!

Thanks!! I think this will probably be one of the last “type r” build videos I do… I got a couple other interesting subs but feel like for alpines anyways, I’m beating a dead horse to death 🤣

I bought a refine for my 12” Type R. The coil has the leads on opposite sides. I know you made yours but, what would be the best way to get them to one side as the type r has both connections on one side?

you have two options. if your coil has pigtails on opposite sides but your spider has leads on the same side, you need to run your pigtails around the former over to where the tinsel leads are on the spider and CA glue the pigtails to the former collar. if you have a standard stitched spider i would run insulated copper jumpers from the outside circumference of the spider from the tinsel leads around and attached to the spider adapter flange over to the terminal block. if you can contact me on instagram or facebook it makes conversation a bit easier. hope this helps.

Does any of this make it preform better then original or does it just get it back to original.

I think there will be some modest gains however IMO I wouldn’t bother unless the subs are already blown. The new leads will handle more power. The stacked suspension will improve voice coil stability. The slightly heavier voice coil will lower Fs, however this could be viewed as either a pro or con. Overall it’s kind of pointless if your subs are still working at least in the case of type r. They are basically designed to operate at their maximum potential 🤷‍♂️

@@MrM_Full-Send Okay cool thanks for the info I got 2 type r 10s so I was wondering. The other thing I would like to know is I have one with a hole in a surround what would you recommend to replace the surround?

@@justinhupp8969 can you message me on Instagram? I might have a spare OEM cone or surround 😒. Not at home for a few days.

I think it’s a cheater amp but it’s 4 channel not mono block. I love that amp and it’s the reason I still have it 😊. Only issue is… pots are dusty and my psu is junk so I can’t turn things up 😒

I ordered the spiders from lord of bass. I custom stitched the tinsel leads onto the spiders to line up with the alpine OEM terminals. I made the voicecoils.

Sorry I don’t know off the top of my head… I’m away from the shop until the new year. I think they have a 1.5” WH. Not sure of former. I can let you know when I’m back.
