The minute of silence before Blood starts is part of it being a hidden track. If you bought the cd or vinyl and didn’t know about it you would think that Famous Last Words would be the end, and you could theoretically never know it existed if you took it out before the silence was over. But if you chilled for a minute before getting up to take it out you’d be surprised when an unlisted song suddenly started playing.

The song Mama doesn't really have to do with cancer. It's about the perspective of someone in war sending a letter to his mom telling her that he's going to die and they're all going to hell. It explains why you hear bombs at the very beginning of the song. What's messed up is that during the 2nd chorus, it's said that her mom doesn't want to see him again because she has learned of all the things he did in battle. It's definitely one of the greatest songs on the album, and I love how hard it goes, especially during the "but there's shit that I've done, with this fuck of a gun" part, it's an amazing song.

Ok that would make sense why it has a beat related to Bella ciao, bc Bella ciao is a song related to war too. So I imagine they probably branches off that somewhat, especially them having Italian backgrounds. Which would completely make sense. Thank you for the insight!😄💪

it is from the perspective of the figure who is acting as death. It is the back story of the figure of the person who is about to take the young man with cancer. The whole album is one song from the perceptive from the young man then the retort from death himself and as the album goes on and the young man comes to terms with death, death himself actually wants the young man to fight. This is not my theory but it is one that I subscribe to as it makes more sense.

In case you didn't catch it, at the climax of the song "Sleep" where Gerard is singing "Sleep, just sleep" In the background you can hear him also screaming "Wake up!" Basically like part of him (his subconscious) is trying to tell him to wake up while consciously he wants to keep sleeping. I listened to this song for years not realizing this - until another reactor listened to this album for the first time, just like you did for this vid, and pointed it out. The layers and depth to each and every song in this album makes it a 10/10 for me.

I'm not sure if this has come up in a comment or not yet, but I find Blood to be one of the most relatable songs on the album. As a person with a chronic disease, the number of blood tests one is called in for is crazy. When he says 'gallons of the stuff --- it will never be enough" that is totally how I feel when I sit in that stupid chair. Gallows humor in a horrible situation is the only way one can sit there once a week (or more) for years without bursting into tears at needlepoint.

Commented on the last and have to comment on this one too. Cancer survivor here (VERY minor, just surgery and radiation, no chemo). I saw a lot of people go through this when I went in for my treatments, still do on a far less regular basis, so this song Cancer gets me every time. Gerard hit the lyrics right on the money. Not only are these guys master musicians, they are master lyricists. You can read their lyrics like poetry most of the time. I think a lot of people pooh pooh MCR because the people who adopted them trended toward the emo part of the alt community, so normies (if I may adopt the venacular, I'm a 40 something old lady) didn't listen.

Honestly, I’d say that Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is equally as story-driven. It’s (in the way that I’ve interpreted it) about a guy who was shot in the back of the head by someone that had to do with his job as a mercenary, and he also thought that it killed his wife, too. He goes to hell and searches everywhere hot her, but can’t find her, and comes to the conclusion that she was sent to heaven. He strikes a deal with the devil that if he kills 1000 evil people of the devil’s choice, he’ll go to heaven. A bunch of the songs are about people he killed, and some gunfights he got in. Finally, he finds out that the last person he needs to kill is himself, but he finds out that his wife committed suicide after she survived the attack, so he’s stuck with the dilemma of killing himself and going to heaven, and never seeing his wife again, or staying alive on the earth, and never seeing his wife again.

A lot of people are recommending Three Cheers and have also seen someone mention Danger Days. But MCR's first album is also a masterpiece. If you don't already know, all of their albums are concept albums. Their first album and Three Cheers are one story more or less, so you may even want to listen to it first. It's also worth noting that the band was formed right after and even partially because of 9/11. Themes of that event are very present in their early music.
@nachobusinezzreacts
@nachobusinezzreacts Год назад
That’s a lot of interesting background information! Lovely to hear all of these little things! It’s really cool to see that they have incorporated 9/11 into their early music and to see them kind of drift from that hit still have songs that could potentially relate to that. So all around it is one consistent theme. But it’s always something different in the music or how it is presented that makes their fans stick around. That is what I’ve noticed. Thank you for your suggestion and support which I will be listening to 😄💪

Glad to see you enjoyed Mama so much, it's definitely a fandom favorite lol. The reason it sounds so European is because someone dared Ray that he couldn't write a polka, and that song is what came out of it (that's what that guitar pattern at the beginning is inspired from) I saw someone else mentioned Sleep in the comments, the talking part at the beginning is a recording of Gerard talking about his sleep terrors that he experienced during preproduction for the album while they were staying at Paramour mansion. They played that song live when I saw them and they replaced the intro recording with some random dude talking about ice baths lmao (they may write super dark songs, but they definitely still have a sense of humor!) As for the meaning of Teenagers, I think the concept part of the album starts to dissolve a bit at this point(although I've always found the concept to be kind of loose anyways) Gerard has said in interviews that he wrote the song literally about being afraid of teenagers. He had an encounter with a group of them on the subway that inspired the song, but it later morphed into more of a youth empowerment sort of anthem with the music video having an anti gun violence PSA. I personally interpret it to be a message of "don't underestimate teenagers, because if you don't take care of them properly bad things can happen" I'm glad you liked Disenchanted so much! I feel like that song often gets overlooked and it makes me sad since it has a special place in my heart. Like you said I think it's a perfect song to signal that the journey of the album is coming to an end. It originally wasn't going to be on the album, but there's a funny story about Mikey whispering "Disenchanted" in his bandmates ears while they were sleeping to try and get the song in their subconscious or something. I doubt it actually worked but the song did end up on the album in the end, so thank you Mikey I second your feelings on that guitar riff in Famous Last Words lol. It's so simple but catchy and they use it very effectively throughout the song. The music video really compliments the feelings of the song as well, a complete opposite from the opulence of the Welcome to the Black Parade music video, just them, some fire, and they're burning it all down. It's always funny to see people's confusion at blood lmao. The hidden track element was definitely lost in the conversion to streaming platforms so it doesn't pack quite the same punch as it used to. Your comparison to an after the credits scene wasn't that far off, although instead of the teasers for whatever the next movie is going to be that they do nowadays its more like the post credits scene in the first Avengers movie where they're just sitting and eating shawarma. Just a funny little tidbit for anyone who happened to stick around long enough lol I've already seen people mentioning the music videos and other songs of theirs so I won't talk about those. I'd definitely recommend watching their The Black Parade is Dead! performance at some point though. It's a recording of a live performance they did in 2007 and they played the entire album, front to back. I personally think its cool to see them bring some of the theatrics of the album to life through costumes and stage setups and stuff, and it's also a great way to get a better listen to the guitars too. They're conveniently placed one in each ear so you can tell who is playing what, and they even change up a few moments that weren't in the studio recordings too(also Ray does all the solos. live. he's insane I don't know how he does it) Anyways sorry I'm rambling, I didn't realize how long my comment had gotten (whoops!) I really enjoyed your reaction and I'm looking forward to watching the other ones :)

In the context of the story of the patient, this line is even more heartbreaking. @@nachobusinezzreacts yeah. The end is moment of death. Dead is realisation they're dead. Then it's talking about how he's died alone "without you is how I disappear". Then it moves onto "taking a shot to remember" "sharpest lives" I think that's a needle like pain medication or chemotherapy meds. Then they realise they're on a flashback trip which is the black parade, a parade through his life. Starts with his love leaving him, some think its him saying he doesn't love them anymore but the line is "would you even turn to say, I don't love you, like I loved you, yesterday". House of wolves is all the sin he has committed. Then next few songs are important points in his life (as I said in the original post) Disenchanted is his youth, "it was a lie when they smiled and said you won't feel a thing" that's like the booster shots. Laughing as you run from the cops again some do that in their youth and mentions high school. Then famous last words is the end of the flashback and the man's reaction to it. Anget, the very first line is anger towards the partner he couldn't make stay. Perhaps left when he had cancer it "Where's your heart" then it goes on about not being afraid to keep on living and walking the world alone. Basically saying he's had upheavals but carried on in his own way. Now the final hidden track is blood. He took a minute to silently contemplate his life and decided its just a load of blood. Talking about how he's probably had cuts and grazes as a youth right through to blood tests late run life (a friend of mine is going through cancer and he says the amount of blood they take is unreal) he even says he's a "celebrated man amongst the gurneys".

I don’t think anyone ~17 years ago was aware of what kind of masterpiece has been launched. It’s aging like a fine wine, and it made it to history. Late comment here, but great reaction videos on this album! Loved to see you trying to tie the story together, emphasizing on lyrics and musical details. I found out about MCR back in 2007 when the singles were rotating here and there in radio stations. I think, with this album they were ahead of their time + all that emo stuff was also hitting it off the rails as at the time the album (and the band itself) was strongly associated with just a certain part of society, and was in a sense clearly viewed just as a whim of the outcast teenagers. But, I think, the band itself was always smth a lot more meaningful, and they also have treated themselves as such, hence, all the theatrical, artistical and cinematic implementations. They weren’t just writing yet another blockbuster, they really told a story and put on a whole show. There’s already new generations picking up these guys, and after 17 more years there will be more, and for a reason. They have made their place in the history, and just like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Queen they will stay alive among people and different generations for a very long time! I’m glad that I was a part of this even before people got to understand what kind of a gem is this band, and how genius they are! ♥️

So House of wolves, Gerard has alluded to it being that it's the patient (the guy dying of cancer) finding a dive bar in the afterlife and starting to realise that he's headed to hell, not heaven. Mama can be interpreted as a further descent into hell - and him apologising to the first person to teach him morals and life lessons (his mother) But there is also a character in this record called 'Mother War' who represents the evils of war and conflict. She marches with the black parade - so conflict and warfare are also a major theme through 'Mama'. I can't help but being reminded of Dante's Inferno and Dantes horror and discovering Crusaders who 'fought the good fight' in hell for commuting acts of violence in the name of God. Because murder is still sinful, even if it's for the 'glory of god'. For 'Sleep' - the voices are actually recordings of the bands bass player, Mikey Way, with his therapist . . . Trying to understand and work through his insomnia. I will say - Sleep is the biggest Sleeper track on this record. I think because it is overshadowed by Mama (which is also my personal favourite track on this record) - like, how do you follow Mama and not sound mediocre in comparison? But give it a chance in isolation - it's legitimately a great song that stands on its own merits. Also - as a fellow guitarist I will say that the guitars a just straight fire in all of MCRs discography. The secret is that Ray Toro (their lead guitarist) grew up on classic rock and metal, whilst Frank Iero (their rhythm guitarist) comes from a distinctly punk direction.

Omg dude you are the best. In one comment you pretty much summed it all up. It’s funny how the murder is sinful like you said, however, they do it for the glory of god. There’s so many things across this album that just make you pause and want to think about it for a little bit because it is such groundbreaking thoughts that one has never considered before in their life. And If you have considered it, then It gives you another perspective. That’s why MCR is An amazing band. AND RAY TORO IS THE MOST UNDERRATED GUITARIST OF ALL TIME. Never heard of him until I reacted to the black parade album. Insane. Thank you so much for your support man! And Im gonna listen to sleep by itself because I’m sure that it’s good by itself. Once again, thank you🫶

disenchanted is genuinely one of my favorite songs of all time, so it’s easily my favorite from this record. it’s so underrated and it’s genuinely a perfect song ! glad you seemed to think it was as beautiful as i did. again, loved your reaction and analysis of this part as well ! have you considered reacting to some of mcr’s other stuff? also, a little out of left field, but you should check out some of motionless in white’s music if you haven’t already 👀 if you’re interested of course ! i’ve been really into them for a while so i’d love to see what you think of their stuff if you’re interested. keep up the good work !

The very beginning of Sleep is Gerard describing the night terrors from the haunted house they were in while making the album which is badass. Seeing how much you liked this album if you wanna hit different rock vibes you should listen to the battle of Los Angeles (not sure if you know RATM music if you didn’t know MCRs) and siren song of the counter culture. Even if off camera give them a listen they are hard af front to back

yeah, they were staying at a famously haunted mansion while recording this album, and Mikey crawled in to bed with Gerard (lead singer/his brother) one night and told him about the crazy night terrors he was having. this song was the result. Mikey actually ended up leaving the house and was thinking of leaving the band altogether at that time because the level of fame they had was becoming too much for his mental health. that’s what the song Famous Last Words is about…. Gerard wrote it to play out like a conversation between them about Mikey wanting to quit and Gee trying to convince him to stay. i love that Mikey was cool with Gee discussing his issues through song 💜

The story of the hidden track "Blood" took me a while, but I think I have it now. You have to take the whole album into consideration.. The cancer patient is singing this in the hospital. He is constantly having to give blood samples and being stuck with needles He compares the Drs and Nurses to vampires "I give you all that you can drink but it will never be enough" and sings about how he feels like they enjoy doing this to him. "I'm the kind of human wreckage that you love.". But in the end .. all of the blood and testing is for nothing, he knows he is dying. The fact that it is so different makes it hard for people to get into, I like it specifically because it's so different. I am thinking that the fact that is indeed so different may be one of the reasons why they decided to put it in as a hidden track. Also, I don't think all of the songs are in chronological order to the story . So it makes it a little hard to follow the story straight through. But as you listen to it more, the story comes together.

Love your reactions! This album has very high highs and very low lows for me. I absolutely adore most of this album, especially because they do ambitious things like a Motown soul song (I Don't Love You) and a big band swing song (House of Wolves) and actually do them well. Then there are Teenagers and Disenchanted, my two least favorite My Chem songs of all time. And I am a superfan who loves the unreleased tracks, B-Sides and rarities but has been skipping these two songs most of the time for 16+ years! I have softened to Teenagers over the years just because I imagine that Ray Toro had fun playing the blues riff. But, to this day, no matter how many times I have tried, there is not a single thing that makes Disenchanted worth listening to for me.

This is so funny to me (genuinely, no sarcasm) because I *love* Disenchanted. I honestly love every single song on this album, B-sides included, but the existential despair in Disenchanted that's super relatable to me hits hard. "I spent my high school career spit on and shoved to agree/so I could watch all my heroes sell a car on TV." Like, damn. That said, I appreciate that everyone has their different tastes, so no judgment.

The drum pattern changes. The high hats and cymbals were heard more than anything at the beginning and then it switches to only kicks and snares. The beat at the beginning is a little bit faster and more energetic than when the kicks and snares come in. When they come in it alternates and slows down a bit in order to climb back up and cause the same effect. It’s usually in a lot of their songs which is actually very interesting. Hope this kind of explained it a little better!😁💪

Blood definitely is a trip, but when I hear it, I think about how a long term patient, high on meds, might view the place he's in. They (his family) encourage cooperation, and send you roses to cheer you up. You can't control yourself, and you get lots of attention and care, so they must love you for that. You didn't get that when you were normal. You can even meet women in the same room sometimes, and the doctors and nurses seem to like him, even if he keeps trying to escape and get belligerent with them (an awful fuck). But, the main issue is the blood tests... Blood, gallons of it, all they can drink and it's never enough. It's always more blood tests... There's always another test...

... ummm... you could bring up lyrics sheets. You are missing a lot. There is a whole lot of abandonment issues especially, and the whole push/pull of wanting to be around people and the fear of being close to people then having to "leave". Houses of Wolves is more or less struggling with spirituality (though that is a minor issue in the album as a whole). My whole thing is what are the whispers scattered about, and that's why I first listened with lyrics in front of me. The riff on "Mama" is known as the Bertholt Brecht riff, after the way he morphed a common oompa beat into something sinister for Threepenny Opera (1928).
