The seat hinges back on the rear part of the bracket. There are actual hinges built in to allow this. After removing the securing bolts, simply adjust the seat back angle and the fore/aft position to allow the seat to clear the steering wheel and fold the whole seat assembly back against the rear seat, allowing easy access to the battery.

Yeah, missing a few steps. You scoot the seat all the way forward and recline it forward as well, then you can pull the battery straight up when you lean the base back.

Do you think you could permanently remove the rear seats?

Do you answer questions from the comments or is there a place to post them? I had a question about the MK7 GTI. In 2018 the GTI used the 6 speed DSG, and in 2019 they switched to the 7 speed. My question is, I am looking at buying a GTI, and wanted to get one new with a warranty as I am a little intimidated by DSG horror stories. I wanted to get the 6 speed DSG because it has been used for many years in the GTI now and has proven decent reliability, but with the 7 speed being new to the GTI, I am more hesitant to buy one. What can you tell me about the reliability of the new 7 speeds? Does one FEEL better/worse at daily driving in heavy traffic areas such as Atlanta? I am willing to buy a used 18 with low mileage if you think the 6 speed is a better choice! Thank you! Been watching lots of the AskDAP videos on both channels, your explanations are great!

Dont remove the rear bolt. That seat is fucking heavy. Installing it back when the hinges move is agony to realign the bolt hole.
