One of my favorite Bon Jovi songs! Jon married his high school sweetheart Dorothea and they're still married. I haven't seen reaction videos for two amazing songs These Days This Ain't a Love Song
Bon Jovi's "New Jersey" album from 1988 was an absolute monster. "Born To Be My Baby", "Lay Your Hands On Me", "Bad Medicine", hit after hit. This was the biggest band in the country at the close of the decade.
@bloodyjasonmask3721 GNR & Bon Jovi might be on par with each other for the late 1980s. Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet sold 28 million Albums in 1986, the next year (1987) GNR's Appetite for Destruction sold 30 million albums, & THEN the following year (1988) Bon Jovi's New Jersey sold 18 million ralbums. Between these 2 bands they had the highest record sales for a rock album from 1986-1988.
@@jasonmistretta4295 Also gotta mention Def Leppard b/c Hysteria was a gigantic hit as well, which was the long-awaited sequel to 1983's monstrous Pyromania. Plus U2 w/ The Joshua Tree. The competition was fierce back then, and that's only for the bands. The solo artists were also on a roll. Although we gotta remember that sales have continued to accumulate all over the world throughout the decades. Hence, it's not like movie box office where earnings are most often frozen in a specific year. I believe Slippery When Wet was announced as the best-selling record of 1987 in America, while George Michael's Faith was the US top seller in 1988.
The album ''New Jersey'' was supposed to be a double-album. Songs were already written for two discs. Desmond Child, the genius songwriter behind their biggest hits (''You Give Love a Bad Name'', ''Livin' On a Prayer'', ''Bad Medicine'', ''Born To Be My Baby'') wrote plenty of tunes for that album just as good as ''Livin' On A Prayer''. All of them are now obtainable on RU-vid as demos (''Love Is War'', ''Backdoor To Heaven'', ''Full Moon High'', ''Rosie'', ''Does Anybody Fall In Love Anymore? ''). Some of those demos were given to other artists (Cher, Kane Roberts, Richie Sambora on his solo album). All that to say that whenever you listen to Bon Jovi in the 80s (86-88), you almost always have to say a big thank you to Desmond Child.
Please listen to more Bon Jovi! This band is very near and dear to my heart as a close friend of mine who lost his life in the line of duty in 2005 was a huge fan of the band and was a part-time songwriter because of them. He’s been gone almost 18 years now but I still miss him every day. Jon’s song Blaze of Glory and the band’s song Thank You For Loving Me were played at his funeral. He had just gotten engaged over Christmas right before he was killed.
Same only for me they were the soundtrack to my preteens, Slippery When Wet was the very first real music album my mom bought me along with my first stereo when she decided I was old enough to stop listening to all childrens music.
I was a huge Bon Jovi fan back in the day. "Slippery When Wet" and "New Jersey" were my favorite albums of theirs. They have so many good songs, some popular some not, but this was my all time favorite Bon Jovi song and video! I haven't seen it in a very long time so it was such a treat to see it again. They were great to see live back then, as well. Thanks for taking me back to the "good ole days". It's hard to think it was so long ago and so much has changed since then. God bless y'all!!
Jon is still married to his high school sweetheart, they're an amazing, adorable couple. They went through some stuff when he got super famous, they broke up, he had a lot of 'fun', but they eventually got back together. Great love story and he means every word he's saying.
I honestly could never pick a favorite of Bon Jovi.. It's not happening.. I love so many.. I hope y'all know that Jon has been married to his High School sweetheart for what 40 yrs now.. True songwriting.. from what I remember, back when they got really BIG Jon sowed some wild oats with Hollywood Starlets.. but he got his stuff together and went back to Dorothea .. married her and they've been together ever since.. raised 4 amazing children.. I love it. Fire
Dating myself here...but I had this cassette tape(New Jersey) back in the late 80's. That was their follow up to 'Slippery When Wet', which put them on the map...so this was an important album for them, and they delivered. I remember my actual favorite song on this album was a song called 'Wild is the Wind', which was not released as a single, so many have probably never heard it.
Man, I dusted off this CD about two weeks ago. It's been so long that I almost forgot how good Wild is the Wind is. I have to say Stick to your Guns is awesome too, but you have to hear Ride Cowboy Ride before it!!
@@rantoppp I forgot all about 'Stick To Your Guns'. Just listened to it again...yep, that's an awesome song! Thanks for reminding me of it. Those were the days!!!
I still have the cassette although I have since bought the CD.I also loved Wild Is The Wind and Stick To Your Guns.Although Born To Be My Baby is my personal favorite.
Really can't go wrong with any Bon Jovi song. If you're looking for another great Bon Jovi ballad check out 'Bed of Roses.' 'Dead or Alive' is also one you should check out!!
Dang 1988 first time I heard this masterpiece, but the nahnahnah nah nah nah nah nah part is what never went away from my brain . Bless that I Was alive in the 80’s even if I was dirt poor . \…/
You guys.,.. you know why I watch you? You have the same reaction we had hearing and seeing it for the first time That deep in your soul, blowing your mind feeling is how we as " kids" felt. The 70s and 80s were extremely serious times on one end, and our music reflected that....but at the same time the 70s and 80s were FUN and our music reflected that also! I know y'all hear it all the time but we really did grow up during the best of times. I really wish y'all had been there with us.
Bon Jovi is one of my two favorite bands of all the times!! No one rocks like he does. This is a kickin' song, yet not even considered one of his stand out hits. That is how impressive his music was and is especially in this era. I am glad you two enjoyed it so much. You guys want a more melancholy side of Bon Jovi try, "This Ain't a Love Song" or how about one of my favorites of theirs in concert go with "Raise Your Hands!" So much fun in an area full of people singing at the top of their lungs. Really you can't go wrong.
This is a great song. Brings tears for me however. Lost my husband, my partner, suddenly back in October of 2021. Songs like this now really are full of emotion for me.
So many great songs by them and this is definitely one of ‘em. For more ballads from them y’all should check out “Bed of Roses” and “Make a Memory”. The video for Make a Memory took me a couple of times watching to figure out what was going on (at least I think I figured it out 😂)
I know that I'm late to this video, but you should really check out the acoustic version of this song with Jon and Richie. Their voices are absolutely incredible together! They were always just magic together. It's absolutely beautiful!
Hey Y'all (again)! Man...I was super-excited to see this one show up on my Notifications just now, as I think this is one of their better tunes overall. The arrangement, the dynamics, the lyrics, Jon's vocals (and the other guys singing backing vocals, obviously in the video), the nonstop bass line, the hard hitting drums from Tico, David Bryan on the keys - always fantastic, and last but certainly not least is Richie Sambora's guitar work, especially that ripping solo! For more of my favorites from this amazing Band: "In These Arms"; "Bed of Roses"; "Keep the Faith"; "Living In Sin"; "Raise Your Hands"; "Blood On Blood"; and "My Guitar Lies Bleeding in my Arms". As always, thanks so much for consistently doing what you guys do, I love it! As always, Peace & Love to All...
There are lots of parallels between Slippery When Wet & New Jersey b/c the band was aiming to see if they could achieve worldwide success again: You Give Love a Bad Name = Bad Medicine; Livin' on a Prayer = Born to Be My Baby; Never Say Goodbye = I'll Be There for You; Wanted Dead or Alive = Stick to Your Guns; etc... I highly recommend Blood on Blood (studio version). Afterwards, Jon & Richie temporarily went solo and explored different musical styles.
My personal favorite Bon Jovi song and video.I never tire of hearing it and it was in the top ten when I turned 15 and I had a huge crush on Jon.Memories come rushing back strong when I hear this song.
Past tense?? Lol I think a big part of what keeps my since 1987 Crush with him going is his Lifelong Crush on his Wife. Just knowing he is still hers makes Dream of Our Own Lifelong Love seen More possible. Glad mine totally gets it!
@@lianabaddley8217 No,I didn't mean it as past tense,I still have a crush on him, just a more adult crush, with a lot of respect for the man he's become.Back then it was a teenage crush, all about the looks and music.Still have a crush, just different..
Bon Jovi has been my favorite band since I was 9 years old. I love all their songs. My favorite ballad is “This Ain’t A Love Song” I don’t think I’ve seen anyone react to that one. A fun one to react to would be “I’ll Sleep when I’m Dead” ❤
Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora... MTV Video Music Awards... Livin' on a Prayer/Wanted Dead or Alive. Basically started the whole "Unplugged" movement that many of the 80s rock bands followed. You will love it, I assure you. You got to give the people what they want!
John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, and Jon Bon Jovi and Ritchie Sambora. Some great songwriting teams. Everyone please add yours to this list to showcase those great songwriting teams.
When I saw you chose this song I couldn't wait to see your reaction. You two seem made for each other and I knew you would be moved. "He must have had a plan."
You guys are my fav to watch reactions too. Love to see younger generations watching music I grew up too. I highly suggest watching the bon Jovi reaction to a live MTV award performance. They did a combo of wanted dead or alive and living on a prayer in acoustic which was an awesome performance. It then spinned the MTV unplugged series because of this performance. Thnxs enjoy your day
Love Bon Jovi......saw them in concert in Nashville, TN, alllllllllllllllllllll the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 1993, for their Keep the Faith tour. It was my 18th birthday present and it was awesome.
The New Jersey Album this track came off was fantastic from start to finish. It also made Bon Jovi even more popular than they were after Slippery when wet. The endless touring for them put them in a place where they needed a break from one another and we wouldnt get another Bon Jovi album until 1992. Jon did have more public success with the Young Guns 2 soundtrack in 1990 where he played with some of the industries biggest names and legends. Some of his Bon Jovi band mates played on some of the tracks along with Elton John, Jeff Beck, and Little Richard. The highlights of that album are of course "Blaze of Glory" and one of my favorites "Miracle"
This is my fave track from New Jersey and it’s a brilliant track to play live and such fun !!! The video version is slightly different from the recorded version. You should also check out Blood on Blood, Living In Sin, Dry County, Something For the Pain, Lay Your Hands On Me, Superman Tonight, Captain Crash & The Beauty Queen From Mars, Just Older & Mystery Train. Some great tracks and a few deeper cuts too now that you’ve done some of the big hits by them.
New Jersey (1988) is my 2nd favorite album after These Days (1995). New Jersey is such a strong album after getting a huge success with Slippery When Wet (1986). All the songs is rarely being skipped if I listen to the whole album. Lay Your Hands On Me, Living In Sin, Blood on Blood, Wild is the Wind, Stick To Your Guns, Homebound Train from the very same album are very good.
You should react to “wanted dead or alive”, “lay you hands on me”, “bed of roses”, “keep the faith” and “these arms” also he does a nice job with the song “hallelujah “
Another AWESOME Bon Jovi song! Sometime you guys should give my favorite Bon Jovi song "Thank you for loving me." A really beautiful song I first heard at a wedding.
IMO the catchiest Bon Jovi song. Irresistible songwriting, and Jon and Richie were so good together here. That's what they're missing now, the Jon/Richie songwriting duo.
You two were definitely made to be together. You have beautiful souls that have created a blessed family with your precious children and you bring such joy to so many of us.
This is one of many songs that I LOVE by Bon Jovi. The bass player, Alec John Such, passed away June 2, 2022. He was in the group from 1983-1994, but was inducted into the HoF with the group in 2018. You've reacted to several that are my favorites and many from the NJ album are awesome! Living in Sin and Lay Your Hands On Me are great, which have been mentioned by quite a few already. Plus many more that are amazing!!
Boni Jovi has two great versions of "Living On A Prayer" from their Cross Road CD. The other song is named "Prayer '94." Many people probably don't know that lead guitarist Richie Sambora, who's got a great singing voice, released two solo CD's with two excellent songs. 1) One Light Burning - (Great song from his '91 CD "Stranger In This Town") 2) Fallen From Graceland - (From his '98 CD "Undiscovered Soul"). Enjoy!
Great song and reaction. Amber looked like she had a lot of fun with this one. Check out "Living in Sin". This is a song that was ban from radio for many years and you had to buy the album to here it. Glad to see y'all getting back to some Rock and Roll. Get back to Jeff Healey also. "Roadhouse Blue's" would be a great one from Jeff.
Kinda always thought this is like part two to living on a prayer as we got married in 87 my wife was in the Navy, and I was in the Marine Corps both stationed on Pearl Harbor. Had our first daughter in 88 as both songs kind of hit the nail on the head for us in the 80's. Almost 36 years later still together. When I met my wife, she had a life size poster of Jon Bon Jovi as every woman was in love with him at that time.
Best thing for this song is when in the early 90s i saw it live and jon played harmonica over the end. It was the most awesome version ive ever heard. You hear a section of it on the access all areas dvd
Brings back such great memories of moving in with my boyfriend after college. We weren't making much money and def weren't living the fancy life but it was such a special time. The line, "We're 2 kids hitchin' down the road of life" ALWAYS gets me
I know it's a good day when I wake up you reactions from the night before and bon Jovi's on the list. This is another in a long list of his iconic songs. I truly cannot wait you guys react to bed of roses. Especially knowing how much Jay really lives piano and how much ever really loves when he gets soulful.
I thought it very apropos that Amber mentioned getting "Livin' On A Prayer" vibes from this song, because it's the "part two" of Tommy & Gina's story!! (Go re-listen to "Livin' On A Prayer" and you'll get it-- the story of two NJ kids trying to make it all work out!!) -- BB&P!! 🙏☮
Love this song. Part of my wedding video is this song playing but the acoustic version from the album This left feels right. Also for more hard rocking Bon Jovi I suggest "If I was your mother" or "Dry County" for more soulful go for "Diamond Ring" or "Bed of Roses"
You've seen Bon Jovi in the studio, now to REALLY see what they were like live, you need to check out their video for "Lay Your Hands on Me." It was the first song from the New Jersey album and the opening song for the concerts on the Jersey Syndicate tour with them and another Jersey band, Skid Row. From the opening build up, to the pyrotechnics, to Jon being launched onto the stage to the band performing part of the concert about 10 feet over the crowds' heads, it shows exactly how their live performances went on that tour. To this day, one of the best shows I've ever seen. And mentioning Skid Row, you still need to react to an actual rock song of theirs. I think you've hit their three biggest power ballads, but have so far missed what they were really all about. You could check out their glam model sounds form their very first single, "Youth Gone Wild," or their much heavier "Monkey Business" or go full on Metallica-speed-metal-like "Slave to the Grind," which was once judged by fans to be the 3rd best heavy metal song EVER. I'd personally shoot big and go for "Slave to the Grind," but if you want to have a little Jersey Syndicate tour vibe, go with "Youth Gone Wild" followed immediately by "Lay Your Hands on Me." It'll sum up the best double header I ever say in concert.
David Bryan (Rashbaum) is a phenomenal keyboard player. Bon Jovi wouldn't be the same without him. He is classical trained (with a Juliard professor), and dropped out of college when Bon Jovi was signed. He has written and scored Broadway musicals. Bon Jovi called him first to ask him to stay with the band once they were signed. Jon and Ritchie Sambora get so much acclaim but David Bryan is the secret ingredient to the Bon Jovi sound. He played on every album.
I like that almost ALL their songs are SO relatable.. . . everyone can relate to what they are singing about. It's not just about "sexy girls, drugs, alcohol" all the time - like so many other bands fell into. These are REAL STORIES.
@@michaelasay8587 I guess I’m just a Bon Jovi connoisseur. Back in the day, I had all their CDs and listened to them on repeat. Now, I just download my favorites.
Jay and Amber!!! I would love to see your reaction to Bon Jovi "Blood on Blood" if you do check out the live version from Phoenix, AZ great intro with Jon talking to the crowd. Then they get into it hard. One of my favorite Bon Jovi songs of all time!!!
Bon Jovi 😍 Me and my friends were obsessed back in the day. Posters on walls and ceilings..Slippery when Wet and New Jersey we’re awesome EPIC albums!! 🔥🔥💜💙✨
