I have some great ( plain ) cedar Japanese wood tea cups. Handmade by a family near Sapporo. Same deal they don't produce many, but the craftsmanship is incredible. I also received a present that was a nice 8oz Japanese tea pot. Great stuff and I use the cups and pot daily brewing up Shizouka tea. I am sure your relatives will enjoy and be proud of these cups. 8,000 yen sounds fair to me! I hope they have plenty of good tea time this summer!

We have similar cups like that and a tea pot. You have my sympathies in handling them as I know what it's like. They feel even thinner than eggshells to me, and super light on top of that. If you'd use them outside they'd float off with the first breeze.

I have two very similar cups, only with other ornaments. Lot of colorful flowers and with this same Geisha (i think) at the bottom. They're amazing.

Weird...i watched your video and the next day I went antique shopping and I found that image in a almost identical cup. Nobody had realised in the shop. I would have paid !0 time's more ❤ i must admit, it's like drinking coffee from a light bulb 😂
