it's the worst airport in the NYC area but it has the best descent views. Newark has some decent descent views but there is nothing to look at while landing in JFK

@@UpandAwayViation yeah JFK has boring views but it's the best airport in terms of quality, and also in planespotting so if you like to see a variety of widebodies I'd recommend JFK to anybody

@@ryankhja2646 Not totally true. While there's nothing to see while landing at JFK, if you're coming from the west into JFK, almost always you will fly directly over midtown Manhattan at about FL 20. On a clear day, the view is spectacular!

LGA never seems to disappoint when you're landing. If it's not this approach you come in right over Manhattan, and get an even better view of the New York skyline.

The final turn on the Parkway Visual (commonly referred to as the Canarsie Approach) into JFK for 13L is an equally spectacular turn, too.

Sheesh! RU-vid's algorithm seems to want me to watch your videos! Anyhow, this bring back lots of sentimental memories of my teen years and high school days living in NY back in the 1970s. Great view of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and the ferries. If you wondered, the name comes from the Dutch, meaning States Island. GREAT views of the Financial District and of Downtown Brooklyn. Equally good views of Midtown Manhattan. NY is unique in that it has two CBDs instead of one, but when you look at the history of how the city was founded , how it grew, it makes sense. Good views of the Number 7 trains running! Your pilot did a fine job dealing with the approach to Runway 31, landing and all. That's probably the trickiest runway to get into at LGA. Very good view of the Hall of Science. If you ever get a chance, I encourage you to visit it, lots of good educational exhibits related to science. Very good views of the 1965 World's Fair ground. I used to sit by the big globe and watch the planes make their turn into LGA. Very good view of the Citigroup Stadium, formerly Shea Stadium. The route you took is called the Shay Route after the stadium. Yes, it's spelled Shay rather than Shea. In Sharknado 2, a sharknado storm hits the Citigroup stadium - sharks, snow and all. I imagine they had to divert all of the flights to LGA to somewhere else. :)

Using a suction cup mount on the window works well. That’s what I use if I’m planning on filming.

This seemed like much better flight than the flight to LGA from CLT that I took about a month ago. There was thunderstorms in LGA as we were landing and made it rough landing but we made it safe.

VERY interesting inflight omission that I didn't notice until we were within sight of Lower Manhattan--no pre-landing announcements that can be summarized as,"Ok folks,you know the drill! Up and stowed!" Great view of NYC in general,the Hudson and East rivers--as we were on final,we apparently made a lazy 'S' maneuver coming in,making a right turn towards LGA,then a left bank by two sports stadiums--I believe this is known as the Expressway Visual,LGA looked oddly quiet,no gaggle of a/c milling about. Did you overnight in NYC? A far,far cry from Joplin! :)

I did not overnight in New York. This was when Covid rules were still super strict in New York. Like, uniformed national guards men and women meeting each plane. So, I avoided all of that by "being on a connection." I flew MIA-LGA-DFW so I could connect to DFW and not be quarantined for 2 weeks. That's also why you see so few planes moving around. This is when New York has closed down so much, that the airlines had almost no flights at all up there.

Great fly! Will you willing to take the world's longest flight from New York City (JFK) to Singapore (SIN)? It is about 18 hours and 40 minutes at 9,537 miles by Singapore Airlines.

Hey, I am just starting to film videos like these just for myself, do you have any recommendations on how to film these without the camera shaking all over the place?

Practice makes perfect. I don't use any type of mount or gimbal. What you see in my videos is all hand held filming. Gimbals and mounts are nice, but they have some serious downsides. They're bulky, some airlines won't let you use them, some flight attendants on airlines that do allow them still won't let you use them, and they often transfer vibrations into the footage. I've always found that holding the camera by hand is the best solution. Then it's all about the camera you have. The more expensive a camera, typically the better it is. I film with iPhone 12 Pros. They're not cheap, but the cameras are amazing. 4K on a $200 camera isn't going to be the same as 4K on a $1,500 camera. For example. iPhones have built in, real time, video stabilization. Which helps combat, in real time, small movements and bounces, etc. It's one of the reasons they're so expensive. When looking for cameras this is what you need to look for. Each brand has their own version. Apple calls is "apple cinematic stabilization", GoPro calls it "hyper-smooth stabilization" etc. In the end, built in stabilization is what you want.

I assume you mean what camera do I use. If so, I use iPhones to film everything on my channel. This was filmed with an iPhone 11 Pro. I've since upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro.

@@sla31 thanks and do u have it suction to the window or something. I noticed that your videos are really still and don’t move much. Sometimes I have to look at my phone/tablet to see if the video is still playing, or unless I see the plane moving some. 😝 If I didn’t know any better I would sometimes think your videos are still pictures if the plane is flying steady. Good work!!!! :-)
