Agreed. Just as we can choose to work for a company or not we can choose to give our money to a company; or not. I just don’t think the issue is very complicated. Spend or spend not. Until there is no choice. I’m questioning the hosts reasoning/justification.
@puppyfeet1194
@puppyfeet1194 4 года назад
Michael Garratt it is more convenient often times. With amazon prime I get a bunch of free movies and shows that my other streaming sites don’t give me. They also have a lot more products at cheaper prices than competitors (bulk dog poop bags are double at Petco and other stores vs what I’ve been able to buy through amazon, even when it’s the same brand and quantity), and on top of that, I get free 1 day shipping on pretty much everything I want. I use them for their streaming service more often than I do for shopping, but when I do shop online, I use them almost every time because it’s fast and it’s cheap. Maybe other companies should follow suit if they want to outshine amazon. I totally see his point. I feel bad for the employees, but I enjoy the convenience and prices.

@@charin951 I mean in my opinion, It's better than working at a fast food resturant, you walk up to 10 miles a day at the least, Ethan was also correct about the bathroom breaks you get 1 30 min break for lunch when it should be at least an hour, then you get two 15 min breaks, but let's say you do have to pee, you will mess up your whole rate for the day because you have to run all the way downstairs to pee b.c there are no bathrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor and even if your on the 1st floor theyre still pretty far, It was okay money but It wasn't for me, I had an incident with somebody harassing me and wrote H.R 4 different times, before the problem was even solved but even then they didnt speak to this person at all, when I personally talked to managers that told me that this person has behaved this way before, they ended up switching my shift but I didn't stay there much longer this person completely scared the shit outta me and when they took away our monthly bonus and our stocks, even with the $15 an hour raise, its still less money, I was over it!!! I can only speak about my experiences but there's Soo much more, however each facility is different and the money is better then some places, so I don't want to say don't work there, b.c you might love it ya know? They were also doing those “mandatory fun” days on weekends at the office and before everyone was going to leave some mid level manager would loudly say “WELL IM GOING TO GET SOME WORK DONE SINCE IM ALREADY HERE” and go to their office for like 15 minutes to write down who didn’t stay to reprimand them and then sneak out. The implication was always “why would you go home? You’re already here and you have everything you need.”

I worked at a delivery company partnered with Amazon for like 3 days, but I had to quit once I found out that I was required to download an app on my personal smartphone that not only tracks my driving, but tracks how many times I pick up my phone throughout the day AND has access to how many times I send text messages. NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Amazon, fuck that noise. I also heard a horror story from someone who used to do security there that 80 workers were told they were getting a pizza party, but were instead separated into groups of 20 and the security team had to escort them out because they were actually getting fired. Honestly, Amazon should just use robots if they're going to treat people like robots.

The mentor driving app you are talking about is even worse than you think. When you start driving the Amazon branded vans they put a computer in the van to make the app "more accurate", unless you are delivering in a rural area with poor cell network for the computer to connect to. In that case the computer tells the app you are hard stopping/ accelerating every time it loses signal, killing your driver score and making you ineligible to drive anymore. I literally drive like I have a bunch of bowls of soup in the back of my van, and still get a borderline failing score every time I drive the vans with the computers in them.
@TheTiredPirate
@TheTiredPirate 4 года назад
john justice strange because I drive my vans like I stole them, flooring it in between every stop, hard turns and brakes, etc, and never once got a bad score, especially from the van itself. We get separate android phones that have mentor and flex, and mentor on one phone flex on the other, sign into mentor and put it in the glove box, sign into flex and do your route. I do 35-40 stops an hour this way and get told that I can do whatever I want as long as I keep the numbers up. I work maybe 4 hours a day and get paid for 10 every day I show up. Not a hard job.
@jjustice2006
@jjustice2006 4 года назад
@@TheTiredPirate You are the problem, you are the reason they keep getting away with their bs. Either your subcontractor doesn't have the computers in their vans, or they are going back and doctoring your score to look like your are driving normally. You are also not using ementor as intended when you use 2 phones, it is supposed to be on your delivery phone, which is basically impossible to get a passing score with as you are handling it constantly. Just because you got lucky and found a half decent subcontractor doesn't mean everyone has it the same way as you. I used to get paid for the full 10 even though I got done early every day, then the subcontractor I worked for realized they could pocket that. Amazon and my subcontractor make sure I never have time for my breaks and lunches (160+ stops with an hour drive each way to the rural, spread out area I deliver to). I don't get health insurance like im supposed to, they send me out in vans with bald tires, bad brakes, burnt out light bulbs, windshields with cracks clear across them, and we are not allowed to report any of these things in ementor. When you throw statements out there like "not a hard job" you make it seem to outsiders like I am just lazy, which enables Amazon and their subcontractors to keep screwing their employees over.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to ask but I'll try to answer to the best of my ability. Corporations in America such as Wal-mart hate labor unions because labor unions forcefully advocate for better working conditions, wages, etc and said corporations would rather treat employees like dogshit than take a hit to profit margins. Labor unions are the majority of labor advocacy in the U.S. even after their near extinction . They used to be strong in America but corporations like Wal-mart have been systematically attacking them for decades and we're now at the peak result of it. They've destroyed most unions and because it's much harder to start a union where there are none and no legislation to support one they show their employees these propaganda videos and fire them if they hear talk of any unionization threatening to undo their decades of "hard work" destroying them. They're attempting to destroy unions before they ever exist. They take it very seriously and are good at it despite how it may seem from the goofiness of their propaganda.

They raised their pay, but they also cut a lot of benefits and bonuses too. Edit: This is actually a two-pronged issue that needs to be tackled simultaneously. People deserve a living wage, but we also deserve strong unions to act on workers' behalf so they can't be fired for talking about a "living wage" or have benefits taken away. Especially large corporations like Amazon (which are essentially monopolies at this point)

I worked in an amazon warehouse. i was a picker, essentially just go find the items in the stock, put them in a bin and send it on a conveyer over to packing... Sounds easy but i wound up walking 15-18 miles over the course of my 10 hour shift. After a month of the job my calves turned purple/red. I was in phenomenal shape too. I was lean and fit, that job was the most grueling i've ever had in my entire life. I would go in at sundown and come out at sun up. The productivity quotas are very real. They would send a lady to come talk to you if you were ever off task on your shift and ask you what you were doing on the time where you weren't scanning items. There's quicker ways to do the job (bringing multiple bins on your cart) but if you try to do them the bosses will tell you you're doing something wrong. This job was absolute shit. avoid it all costs

Amazon also has something called “time off task” so if you have to use the bathroom a manager will approach you at some point and ask what you were doing and why you weren’t working in that 5-10 min time frame. The productivity rate at my warehouse was 425 items an hour consistently for 10 hours!!! If you can’t keep up they write you up and after 3 writes you’re fired. This reminds me of when I worked at FedEx during my time in college. They literally tell us unions are bad and that it better to not have them. They also preach safety , but at the end of the day they only cared about numbers. I ended up injuring my back and I went to a chiropractor. So I had a note saying I shouldn't be lifting heavy. After two weeks I got another note saying to continue my restrictions. And one of my managers starting going off on me. Asking me if the doctor was a family member and if I was just bull shitting. Later that week my other manager sent me home saying they couldn't accommodate my injury and not to come back until I was better, so I just quit. One year later my back is still jacked up. These kind of jobs don't care about you at all. And if you don't work like a machine, they just fire you and move onto the next person.

I worked as a driver for a little over 2 months before I was suspended. We started at 8am. During the holiday season the warehouse was a fuckin disaster, there is little organization, the Amazon employees work completely separately from drivers on staging programs. During holiday season we were there 12+ hours. The job was the easiest job ever. But the leadership made the job stressful and there was zero structure. I got suspended because I was finishing up at the delivery station at like 11pm at night one night and another driver was pestering me. I got upset with him and with a choice set of words told him to leave me alone. He tried telling on me and it went nowhere. After I left he went in and told Amazon I sped in the parking lot. Which was false. A day later I was suspended and it went on for 4 weeks while "investigating" before I just moved on. They have poor structure and leadership within their warehouses. And they have no idea what logistics is.

@@brandonwright9123 I forget how bad the American education system is like you deserve better than this. Communism is not a form of tyranny, it’s an ideology generally based on ideals about equality and democracy. Nations that have tried to be communist like the ussr fail and become dictatorships because of a million reasons like lack of resources, power hungry politicians, inability to trade and America generally just messing with communist countries. The ideals of communism are about the workers having control over their working conditions instead of some random guy who owns the factories so unions function similarly by having workers come together in collective action to make the company change worker policies like pay and conditions. This video was apparently sent out to amazon branch managers and is a guide on how to crush unionising by watching changes in employee behaviour and listening out for words like liveable wages in employee discussions.

This is late, but one of my close friends just got fired from Amazon because of too much 'downtime' while working. He was what they call a 'donut' which basically meant his job was to go around and fill in on jobs all over the warehouse, but like Ethan pointed out many of these locations are over 15 minutes apart, so they counted up the time he spent rushing over to each job across the entire facility and said that he spent too much time not working. And on those grounds they gave him 3 strikes and fired him. Incidentally about a year after he started(like Ethan mentioned).

I work at a small Fed-Ex. Basically a warehouse but not really because packages aren't stored long term, the 6,000-12,000 packages a morning we get are put on routed trucks almost immediately. Honestly the management is kind and respectful, my main manager is pretty great at being understanding. But the people above them, and above them, and above them, all the way up to whoever is actually directly pocketing the money from the company is a different story. They have crazy high standards they enforce bosses to enforce bosses to enforce and so on all the way down to the package handler. Most of the time we meet those standards and honestly there's never any scolding if we don't. I don't remember the excact number because I deal with the large packages (my managers are easy to work with, you say you don't like throwing in a truck or scanning and they try to give you what is best for you, which increases productivity overall) but here's an example. (Keep in mind I don't know the number by heart, I am comming up with a relatively close but random number) You're and another thrower are supposed to throw at a rate of 1,125 packages an hour. Now say you keep that pace but your scanner has to stop your belt because they can't keep up with your speed. Then when the scanner is keeping up, the guys in the sort tower are stopping the over all belt because they can't keep up. Then the people loading the small delivery trucks are stopping the belt because they are getting flooded and need to catch up. When the truck is over your manager comes up and asks you why it took you so long to throw the truck (even though you were the quickest part of this whole cluster fuck process).
