Whitaker Cayton I am surprised they didn’t make more mention of his voice in the movie. His voice is amazingly deep, so seems to me that phenomenon should have been mentioned at least once in a biographical movie.
Melvin was an aquaintence friend of ours and he was everything you gather from watching him here and more. He loved his wife and family so. God bless his Soul with eternal Positive Energies. ❤
I encounter Dennis Edwards . I didn’t recognize him at first. I was at a restaurant. His song came inside the restaurant. I was just singing and dancing. Dennis was just trying not to laugh at me but he couldn’t help himself. Of course I got upset. That’s when someone told me who he was. One thing I noticed about him. He seems pleased that I was singing to his song. I thought he was laughing at me but he was happy that I was singing to his song.
joe jones yes otis is the only original surviving member of the temptations and I think he is still in the group as well in today’s line up of the group
The 19 year old kid was adorable. I bet he was so happy to be apart of that group. I liked Richard Street as well. This was before my time but I've always been so fascinated by all of them.
These are my three favorites as well. In my opinion, Paul should have been group leader. Eddie should have been allowed to do a solo album while still with the group. And David should have been given high quality counseling provided by Motown. When people have drug or alcohol problems, you have to treat the root problems long term. They can't just stop the behavior because someone demands that they do.
Thanks to the late Mr Melvin Franklin for your truthfulness, good success, positivity and for being a mainstay with The Temptations. You and your family are blessed by the Creator and Giver of Life, the late Mr Melvin Franklin had his own style!
When Eddie Kendricks was being interviewed by Martha Reeves, Eddied said, “The Temptations were formed when Otis Williams & the Distants ( Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin and Elbridge Bryant) became the backing singers for The Primes ( Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams)”. Eddie sang lead and designed the group’s outfits. Paul sang lead and devised the group’s dance routines. Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin and Elbridge Bryant provided backing vocals.
The Temptations at that time: Otis Williams(1960-) (Last original Founding member and leader) Melvin Franklin(Was a Temptation from 1960-1994) (Founding member) (Died on February 23rd,1995) Dennis Edwards ( Was a Temptation from 1968-1977;1980-1984; 1987-1989) Replaced David Ruffin (Died on February 1st,2018) Richard Street(Replaced Paul Williams) (Was a Temptation from 1971-1993) (Sang with Otis and Melvin in the late 50’s as Otis Williams and the Distants) (Died on February 27th,2013) Glenn Leonard (Was a Temptation from 1975-1983) (Replaced Damon Harris)
Why i always thought Otis, whom is still alive at 77, was sooo jealous of Dennis Edwards.... i read they had beef later on but it ABSOLUTELY amazing how you can tell a lot through looks n body language. Dennis Edwards had a presence, call it arrogance or confidence, that some men just don't have.. sorry! I hope Dennis Edwards had real love and loved right in his life especially towards the end... I hope they do a lifetime story on his life or a Netflix movie Masterpiece of Love, the Dennis Edwards story!
He took my favorite singer place. He was so confident in his approach of being the numero factor in my favorite group. I just never could come up with a reason to dislike Dennis Edwards. Teriffic person. If he wasnt confident in his task of becoming a Temps after replacing a legend like Ruffin we would have eaten him alive. He made us come over as if to say if you dont you are going to miss something. Discovered I could still be a Ruffin and Edwards fan.God bless them both.
I’m sorry, but when Eddie Kendricks left, it was never the same. Way too much drama with this group. I’ll stick with their golden years right up to early Dennis Edwards. ‘64-‘71 they were unstoppable.
Ollie Woodson in the 80’s And 90’s Theo peoples in the 90’s And you cannot say that Ron Tyson who has been with the Temptations since the 80s early 80s to this day did not do any justice if you do then you don’t know the temptations.
No matter the line up, The Mighty Temptations always delivered great music and performances. Melvin's voice is more deeper just talking. Wow. RIP Melvin, Richard, and Dennis. You men left this world a great legacy of our music.
You know what the crazy part is is that their sister group the Supremes never made it this far they lasted into the 70s than the 80s I would be surprised because they started in 1958 than the temptations in 1961
Melvin Franklin's "power-pow-power" part is quite hypnotic; it would be hard to maintain that part for 6 minutes on "Power", there's not a lot of space to take breaths.
Richard: *Bows* Otis: Get back man dat's MY spotlight your taking Melvin: Cutie pie himself Me: He is a cutie pie Melvin after he says his own name: *Super proud happiness* Dennis: I'm a heart mender Dick: Lies Richard: Out the way boy! Melvin at the end of the vid: *Genuinely happy that what he said made everyone laugh*
