She took a perfect (Oscar winning!) song, dismantled it, put it back together in a different way with the EXACT SAME WORDS, and made it hers. It's incredible.

Kasey Chambers smashed this out of the ball park!! So proud to call her ours Australian (Aussie) Magically Talented🇦🇺 . I have loved kasey Chambers for 10 plus years.. But Eminem is a word smith!! But kasey mixes lose yourself into country, Blues, Hard Rock all with her way.

Kasey is a respected country singer, here in Australia who likes to wander into other genres occasionally. She is also a big Eminem fan and has always wanted to cover this song but she needed time to do an arrangement which did justice to the words of the song. The Pandemic gave her the time to work on it with her band. They were unable to tour so she perfected this arrangement. The guitarist who comes in on the second part and sings harmonies, is her brother. The man on the slide guitar is her father. Thanks for the reaction.

Kasey finished her tour in Newcastle and was performing this at the end of her shows. She officially recorded the sound at this concert but didn’t have the video. When she knew it was a good recording, she put the call out for the audience to send in videos they captured. This is why the clip is made up of a whole lot of angles, grainy and glarey. I love that it’s not polished. Kasey deserves international recognition reigniting a classic through re-inventation! 👏🪕🇦🇺

I feel that Eminem pumps you up with his rap, I'm not into rap, but when that rap came out many moons ago, it definitely inspired me and pumped me up. Eminem had a very different intention with the song, that how Kasey Chambers interpreted it. The way Em wrote it in 2001/2002 was exactly what someone who is 28/29 is going to be feeling and attacking life with; but Kasey Chambers reinterpreted the song 20 years later, as a woman and mother of 47 years, and of course it has the pathos of age and lived pain. This reminds me of when Johnny Cash did the the cover of Trent Reznor's "HURT." Trent, like Eminem, was a young man writing and performing that song, and so when someone comes along, be it a man or a woman of older age and experience, and reinterprets that twenty-something year old artist's song, it has to be vastly different, not to mention the fact that they're completely different genres.

Eminem performed this as a young man looking forward and knowing he needs to change things, to make more of his future. Kasey is singing this as a (slightly) older woman who's seen life and knows this is it... last chance. Two totally different places but the song works for both. I think this shows just how good Eminem's writing is. Apparently Kasey worked out this arrangement during Covid lockdown when she couldn't perform. Me... I made bread...sigh.

So impressed by this performance; the whole arrangement is creative genius. This has always been one of my favourite Em songs. Ever since it came out I've used it as a source of motivation to keep on grinding. Those lyrics, "I've been chewed up & spit out & booed off stage....." &, "This is my Life!..." get me every time. She reinterpreted & sang that song in a way that emotes how every performer feels at one time or another & really reimagined the song in such a creative way. It's one thing to simply try to cover a song & recreate it, it's entirely more impressive to take an already great song, from an artist as huge as Eminem, & then make your interpretation unique & completely your own. If anything I think her version draws you in & emphasizes the lyrics. Her commitment to the song is incredible.

Raw BrillianceI will always turn the doubter! Totally blown away when I “experienced” this Phenomenal performance, amazing arrangement & pure to the emotional interpretation of Em’s masterpiece - just legendary!! Em gave her his permission to release on Spotify, that says it all 👏👏👏 She is aged 46 at the time of this performance 2022. I’ve always been a fan of Kasey, she is a freakin amazing & talented musician, artist & woman. But this was next level genius & so personal for her. She has lived every second of this story. The performance wasn’t filmed, she put a post out after the show to fans present to please send in any footage, the compilation of which you see. The band killed it, matching & building with her energy brilliantly, Brandon on guitar & vocals that nurtured the momentum & her dad on slide guitar making it sing like a phoenix - all of them together made this the best live, for me a rebirth, not a cover, I’ve ever heard, seen & felt to my core. Top reaction - new subscriber from Tasmania Aus 👍🏻👏

Holy Shieeet indeed! Thanks for giving it time to develop and taking the time to offer a real opinion. Some don't and dismiss it because they expect it to be rap as the original 20yr old track is , which is brilliant in its own right. Good lyrics that really mean something to people will transcend musical genres, as this does. I'm not a rap fan but not closed to it at all, and really liked 8 Mile. This is a folky/bluesy blue grass version that morphs into a rock song of sorts. Kasey sang it with pain, passion, meaning and importantly intent, she feels it. She must have really connected to the original version years ago. Eminem's version is largely considered by many as more motivational. They are both brilliant.

Kasey brings out the absolute sadness and helplessness in the first part of the song and then the absolute determination to rise above adversity to triumph. She has lived this, performing from a very young age to support her family. There is nothing more painful in life than not being able to provide the right life for your family, having your kids go without, but it drives you on. Man this happened in my home town and for longest time I considered Kasey Chambers a washed up pop star from the early 2000s whos one song was rubbish...I have never been more humbled. She's rock bansheee who has more musical talent in her left pinky than I have in my entire body. Sadly Kasey kinda did miss her 1 shot unless you really really followed her career, it gives me chills to hear this story from the side of someone who didn't quite catch it. Kasey was chewed up, spit out, and boo'd off stage and you can feel that pain in her song here. She's showing you the pain in the struggle that didnt win.

Kasey struggled to break into the popular music scene, she worked her butt off but was constantly turned away. She wrote a song years ago (I’m sure other have mentioned) called am I not pretty enough which is about her struggle. Imagine a really soft story/version of this song. She asks herself if it’s her looks, is she too outspoken, is her heart to broken etc. This feels like a follow on 20yrs+ later and now she’s really hurt & angry about it & using his lyrics to convey that.

If you had a single doubt about the degree of spectacular of this version, performance, and complete dedication she put in to expressing the pain and feeling behind the lyrics, I read somewhere that she ACTUALLY received permission from Em, himself, to not only PERFORM the song, but to release it, I believe either ITunes and or Spotify. He ain’t lettin his carefully crafted, gut spilling, vulnerable exposing masterpiece that is MOST of his work, but specifically this track, be rereleased by just ANYONE, if at all, if their initials ain’t MM, unless he believes in it being equal to or surpassing the original. I promise you that. Speaks volumes to the homage Kasey displayed to Em, by putting her flavor into it but not changing a single word. Just amazing. I, too, was skeptical AF until about 6 notes and 4 or 5 words sung. Spun my entire top

I never really thought I'd be into an Eminem song OR power cords on a banjo, and yet here I am, liking both in the same damn song! 🤷

Her father is on the slide guitar. She is the youngest person ever inducted into the Australian Country Hall of Fame. This is also filmed on cell phones from audience members.

This reminds me of how Johnny Cash did a cover of Nine inch Nails "Hurt" and made it his own

This Aussie gal has just blown the roof off this song, Eminem giving her the opportunity to make this raw passionate and dynamic version. So blown away my our Aussie secret, getting the global recognition she so rightly deserves.

Kasey worked on this during Covid lockdown . Its been one of her favourite songs. Took excellent lyrics and made it her own!

Kasey fan here. Your reaction is priceless! She is the real deal. This might be one of the best live performances I’ve ever witnessed. Would be otherworldly to see her perform this live. What a treat for her audiences. Just wow!!!!

I’m not a country fan or a KC fan really, although I admire her talent. However, this is simply MAGNIFICENT, probably the best live performance I’ve ever seen. Her voice, the arrangement, the emotion, the storytelling thanks to Em is simply perfect. She MUST be invited to perform it at the Emmys.

This is just your classic Eminem head banging banjo music that starts out singing like Jewel and end like Janic Joplin. Eminem’s version takes you from where you are currently emotionally. Kasey brings you down to melancholy and then let’s you ferment in that emotion so that you can feel the desperation of needing a win. Then her mood changes and presents a dangling carrot as a path out of melancholy by rocking out. Her and Ren are my two biggest surprises of the year!

She listened to alot of Eminem in her household during the pandemic lockdown and this song really resonated with her, she spent that time trying ro fit the lyrics to her style and melody, this was one of the first performances out of lockdown, she also asked the audience to film with their phones and send them.tonher, the sound was digitized and professionally done but the video was from all the submissions

I have never heard this. I love this musician's creative take on this. What a great choice given your goal of being open to new music. I especially love that this isn't just another cover because of the inique genre she's chosen to sing it. I would agree, she has a great voice not sure if i like it or not but absolutely appreciate the artistry. With that being said, i think you should listen to Radio/Video by System of a Down. It has a lot of dynamics and its upbeat and kind of fun and Id love to see your reaction! Not one of their top songs but loved by all!
