This is why I was out in a tornado last year grabbing my flag up off the ground~!! And yes,,we are a country in distress~my flag is being flown upside down.......
This is not propaganda, It is history. This is why there is only ONE Nation Anthem. Our fore fathers had the Magna Carta to use as a blueprint for our Constitution. We are truly blessed. Thank you for taking off your hat.
Based on a true story. There were 10 British boats, not the entire fleet. This incident occurred during the War of 1812. And yes, as several mentioned, this flag is in the Smithsonian's American History museum.
It may not be propaganda in the strictest terms, but this is a highly embellished account of the battle of Fort Henry. Historians have found that the British did not specifically target the flag. All in all, there were about 28 total American casualties. The bodies of dead soldiers were not used to hold up the flag pole. That is a total falsehood in this account of the events. A 42 by 30 foot flag has to be on a well-anchored pole, it cannot be held up by a few dead bodies stacked around it.
I'm a legal immigrant from a communist country , I've been here since I was five and I love this country with all my heart and soul . Too many people in this country take this country for granted .
Thank you for your service . I stand with pride for my beatiful country and all that made living here possible and continue to be possible. My family will never forget ❤❤
I fought for this country and am now 100% sevice connected disabled. I have no regrets about that. What i do regret is what our country has become. We are not black , white Hispanic asian democrats or Republicans. We are all Americans.
Thank you for your sacrifices. God Bless you🇺🇸❤️. My dad survived the battle of the bulge. Thank God. I despise what our politicians are doing to hurt this country, but I love America and never deny her!!
@@CJBWthese aren’t “politicians” these are enemies of the American people that have learned that infiltration and destruction is best performed as a representative of the state.
Were the 100% Anglo-Saxon men, who signed the Declaration of Independence and wrote the Constitution. Thinking about Africans, Asians and Latin Americans, when they were doing so? Remember, most of those men owned humans as property at the time. A practice which had been banned in Britain since the 11th century. Also, something which the British at the time, were seeking to abolish in their colonies. What a great time to want to cut ties with the Mother Country.
Ty for your service but i just can't with the last part of that i would say We Are All Americans for the civilians yes. But the history for Democratic Politicians is just to vile/Evil so i would say Republican if your pro American. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BHI3qoYf7lE.html
Let me guess, you have never read the entire SSB, all of the verses hidden away on purpose, and have no understanding of its full meaning. God Bless America should be the anthem.
I’m Canadian and even I removed my hat when the song started. This is such a powerful piece of history with so much depth, meaning and character I have nothing but love and respect for my freedom loving family and brothers down south. Happy Independence Day
We have no closer brothers as a nation then our northern neighbors. Every patriotic American i know would fight nearly as readily for our northern brothers as for ourselves.
During hockey games if playing a Canadian team they play both anthems, I always stand for the Canadian one too even though I’m American. It’s just respectful…Plus I don’t want to make our norther neighbors angry…You guys tend to go ham when wars pop off 🤣
I"m a 65 year old Army Vet, I was a tank commander in the Big Red One...that flag, means everything to me...that flag represents the true American spirit...Happy 4th of July, America! And mad respect for taking off your hat...Thank YOU!!!
I was taught as a child that this is why every true American won't see the flag on the ground. Its disrespectful to the memory of those who perished to keep that flag up on that day. There is so much more than we realize. Thank you for this July 4th gift.
accept most of this story is wrong. The truth is a great story so he didn't have to lie about it. This is modern America, lie to make it bigger .... yes distortion of history is wrong .
@@Cuffsmaster first of all, I think you meant "except" not "accept". I do not accept that most of this story is wrong. I do accept that the story as told here was told in a way to stir the American soul. This story made it sound like many died when in fact, only 4 brave men died and 24 more were injured. 330 British soldiers were either killed, wounded or captured. The incredible part to me is that Britain suffered nearly 14 times more casualties than the American patriots. This was during the war of 1812 when Britain came back mad that we were succeeding as a nation. While 4 deaths and 24 injuries may not seem like a lot to you what I see is 4 strong courageous people left this world too early. That is the point, people have died to as BP said give us the freedom to live the lives we get to live today. It's about gratitude to ALL who have served, bled, and died for that principle.
As a vet, I was proud to stand up and fight for this country. Every time I hear the pledge or Star Spangled Banner, I salute with misty eyes. Be proud and respectful or get the hell out. God bless America
It is the rule of the military, and should be observed by all Americans, that when the anthem plays you stand and face the flag. If there is no flag, you face the source of the music.
My dad was part of the silent generation. He lied about his age bc he was homeless to enlist in the Navy at 17. He served in the Korean War. I his later years, he developed Parkinson’s. Despite his poor balance and constant tremors, he ALWAYS stood for the anthem. Even when he stood out from a wheelchair.
My 8th Great Grandfather, Christopher Crary, was twice captured by the British. The second time, he was imprisoned in one of the prison ships, where the conditions were so squalid that most prisoners died from disease and starvation. Christopher escaped from the prison ship and returned to the fight, serving until the war was won. He's an inspiration to me in times like this, when those who have never endured tyranny seem willing to surrender the freedoms our ancestors sacrificed everything to give us. Democracy is fragile. Our resolve to defend it cannot be.
This is so well-written. Thank you to your 8th Grandfather and to all men who have fought for our freedom !!! I am a Baby Boomer and miss the strong sense of Patriotism I was taught as a child and all during my school years. I also have a hard time sitting if I hear the Star Spangled Banner, and after standing, putting my right hand over my heart and singing while tears fill my eyes, with great love and gratitude for the gift I have as an American citizen to live my life as I choose within the laws in the Constitution. This past 3 and 1/2 years has been SO sad and painful as Government Officials ignore the Laws that exist and do whatever they want. I have a strong faith in God and I know He will Shepherd us to where we belong. God Bless AMERICA!!!
My 10th and 11th times grandfathers came here on the Mayflower. Edward Fuller and his young son,Samuel Fuller. My ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War and being from the Philadelphia area, they knew George Washington personally,,and some of the other Founding Fathers too. I've watched this video about the Star Spangled Banner so many times, and always cry when I think of how brave, strong and determined my,OUR,, ancestors were. And I have tried to live up to that legacy in my own life🇺🇲❤️🤍💙🇺🇲
As an Army Veteran who joined up after 9/11... shortly after High School... it makes my blood boil when I see the disrespect our flag & Coubtry gets from her own people... When people call the flag a hate symbol... when people say it represents white supremacy... when they trash or burn the flag... The sheer audacity pisses me off... I love my Country & proudly would have given my life for her... It wasn't my price but many before me & after paid that price... Love it or leave it... there are 1000's of entry/exit ports, airports, & border crossings... nobody is making you live here... The greatness of this Country will not bend a knee nor bow to your ways... We will not fall as long as their is blood pumping through the veins of true patriots...
I also feel frustrated when I see citizens disrespecting the flag by adding slogans or other embellishments directly onto the stars and stripes, believing it enhances their patriotism.
There is something that a lot of Americans today don’t think about, when the founding fathers signed their names to the Declaration of Independence they were initially signing their death warrants. We did not win our freedom with pen and paper, we had to fight the greatest naval and military power at the time and lose many lives to do so. It was by God’s grace that America came to be,if we had lost,King George could have very well had those men put to death for treason or in prison. Yes we should celebrate this day with jubilation and songs of freedom and thanks giving to our Father for life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but let’s not forget to remember the labor pains America endured to birth this Nation 🇺🇸
You left out the fact that if France didn’t bankroll us and give us troops, ships, and $$ we would have been screwed. It took a long time for the US to become a “country” and were really a loose confederation of states. So that presented a lot of issues with different states and who pays the soldiers and who doesn’t. That’s why there was mutiny a few times. They were especially angry about having done a year or two and hadn’t been paid while new recruits were given bonuses and pay. So they got extremely angry (justifiably). That’s part of why Benedict Arnold defected to the British. He fought and spent $10,000 out of pocket on different campaigns with Congress agreeing to pay originally and then afterwards giving him a hard time. Then he was injured twice in the same leg. The last one happened when he rallied the troops and single-handedly won during Saratoga while Gates twiddled his thumbs. That’s when the French agreed to openly help us. Then Gates went and said he did it all by himself. They also accused him of using his position as leader of Philadelphia to “enrich himself”. That was the last straw. After that he defected.
This is not very accurate. Take the time to research the real story. And I agree, the real story should be taught. This one is good for the feels only.
Why? This isn't close to being a historically accurate accounting of the Battle of Fort Henry.
@@allengator1914 Not a total falsehood. It's embellished. If you think there aren't embellished stories in every country's history, you haven't been paying attention. The point behind this is to help people understand what patriots fought for and why. How does that affect your life in a negative way?
Seen one last Sunday that you couldn't see the flagpole. It was huge. Want to say 675 in Ohio. My goodness it was beautiful - and huge. Took my breath away
And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget, the men who died, who gave that right to me! And I'd gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. Cause there aint no doubt I love this land....God Bless the USA!!!
All I can say is Amen brother. as a vet (corpsman with the 2nd med battalion out of Lejune) God, Country, Corps. Never forget the sacrifices we paid to be free. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Now more then ever we need our nation, our children, to hear these words from our mouths. The Flag is more then just a flag. It is the symbol of a covenant that our forefathers paid for in blood, that all should be free. God bless our country, our people, and you brother.
Thanks for talking your hat off, and showing Respect!! People have lost Respect, and forgotten the blood that was shed to make us Free. God Bless America
On a Patrioitic note...... Check out: - Red Skelton breaking down the Pledge of Alliegence.... I believe it was recorded in 1968/1969 for his TV Show....... - The song "Ragged Ole Flag" Johnny Cash...... - The song "Arlington" by Trace Atkins....
And one more thing... how amazing is it that we did break away from Great Britain, only like 250 years ago and yet we became the closest of friends and staunch allies, to them and they to us. We love our British brothers and sisters today. So not only does America fight and not give up, but we also forgive and give second chances, not just in Word but in actions.
You know why that is? Because the British common law is the DNA of the American Constitution. The American Revolution basically held up a mirror to Britain's own standards, and found them lacking, and re-established them in a purer way, in a new land. And not only have the Brits taken a few meaningful looks in that mirror over the last couple of centuries, we have also faced common enemies together that threatened civilization as either of us knew it.
Even the UK reactors on RU-vid really get emotional while watching this video. It's ironic how many will comment about seeing Old Glory everywhere before watching this to fullu understanding why afterwards
@@joeday4293 Amen Joe!!! We all need to take a good long look in the mirror now and then. We all lose our way from time to time. What is important is that we realize we're going the wrong way and get ourselves back on track. I think America is experiencing this right now. Hopefully we will get back on track soon.
Yes. It's lucky for you, that British people, with their culture, values, and principles founded your country. Just think that if it had been the Spanish. You'd probably be like Mexico or Venezuela now.
I cry every time I see this video. I even thought at the end "I wonder if he is gonna take his hat off during the anthem", and then boom! Never should have questioned your patriotism! Lol Thank you for watching this! Happy 4th of July!
Maybe if you knew most of it was BS, you wouldn't cry. There is a reason this isn't taught in schools: The video maker made up about half of this stuff said, or more.
@Tijuanabill there is a reason America has always stood as a beacon of hope for millions around the world. We are bred different. You won't convince me otherwise.
@@smcqueen2801 I don't disagree with that. But the video is full of lies and propaganda, that neither of us were taught in school. It's not patriotic to tell lies, or support them, so I cannot.
@@Tijuanabillyou keep chirping on every comment that half of the commentary is a lie, yet you've refuted not one single thing said. I think you are full of shit and just hate America.
I watch this every 4th and it brings tears to my eyes. I know lots of people probably think I'm lame, but I do love my country and I'm sad for how far we've strayed.
Happy 4th! Appreciate your independence. It wasn't free. It wasn't cheap. I'm a veteran and the son of a veteran. I tear up every time I hear this haunting hymn.
Correct. The music for the US anthem, isn't even American. It's an English drinking song, that was written three decades earlier. The Muricans couldn't even create an original anthem.
@@ThePositive0ne1 It was already somebody else's before the US stole it. Ripping-off a song you get p!ssed to, is hardly comparable to a small island creating the largest Empire in human history.
You're spot on. I wish more young people understood the importance of patriotism. The USA is the land of opportunity and the only thing holding anyone back is themselves!
I showed this to my kids last year and ever since their patriotism has become so solidified my 8 year old daughter during a light show hay ride for christmas, the song God Bless the U.S.A played and she was the first to start singing it outloud amonst 30 people no shame and I joined in with her out of pure pride. Our country is the last hope before the world changes forever for the worst. We cannot let it go.
I'm reminded of the U.S. Olympian who was the flag carrier at the Stockholm Olympics, I believe, (correct me if I'm wrong). As the teams from all the countries paraded in front of the King, lowering their flags in respect, the American didn't. When asked why, he said- "This flag bows to no earthly king."
To the rest of the world, the US attitude to the flag is very strange. Every other country also believes that their flag is sacred: at a funeral, battle or a contest, laying the flag on the ground is *not* a sign of submission, but of consecrating the ground and imbuing it with the ideals of that country. The flag is more powerful than the ground. For the US, a flag touching the ground means the flag has been desecrated, made dirty and has to be burnt. It is patriotic, but only on a superficial level, as it implies that Americans think the ground is more powerful than their flag.
@@dominicbuckley8309 No. Nobody thinks that. What are you talking about? We don't think any flag is "powerful". We think letting something sacred get dirty, is bad. It's the same reason you dress nice for church, or that the priest doesn't show up all dirty. If you are doing something sacred, it should be done cleanly. By your logic, we baptize babies because they are weak. Like...could you miss the point more? Is it even possible?
@@Tijuanabill You have literally just proved my point. Americans think of lowering the flag as 'letting something sacred get dirty'. Every other country in the world sees lowering the flag to the ground (usually in salute to the fallen) as _the flag making the ground sacred_ . Of course, we're not talking about accidental dropping (which is always bad), but a deliberate salute performed at funerals and memorials. In the past, it was also done prior to battles or contests, as a symbol of making the ground your own. To use your baptism analogy: to the rest of the world, the US attitude to lowering the flag is like saying that a baby shouldn't be baptized because the holy water would get dirty. Anyways, from an historical point of view it needs to be pointed out that the US attitude to lowering the flag did not date from this incident. It actually became a tradition during the Civil War, but was not made official until the Flag Code of 1923.
@@dominicbuckley8309 Yeah but, why on earth would we care what lesser nations do and think? We are better than them, so they should follow our lead, not the reverse.
@@TijuanabillLesser nations? They should follow our lead? Are you kidding? What makes your nation superior to anyone else? Your national debt? Your corrupt politicians? Your corporate greed? Your homeless?
Hey BP, I'm a veteran who served during Desert Storm 1990 - 1997. I appreciate your support for our great land. That pride is not so common these days. People need to come together & remember that #hUmaNITY is the key. God bless America and ALL of her citizens. Happy Independence Day.
You make a good point about the founders being gangsters. This made me cry. How far we have fallen. I love how you took your hat off and sang, but that made me cry too. Thank you for doing this for the 4th. I needed this.
One thing not mentioned is that civilians sunk their own ships in the harbor to keep the British navy out. You can see the masts poking out of the water in some of the paintings. Most if not all of these ships were used to make a living. They couldn’t just go out and buy another replacement. That’s a sacrifice.
Thank You for this. I agree with everything you said. People who live here don't realize how lucky they are to live in this country. It is the absolute best country. God bless America.
One of the things I enjoy and respect about you is how real you keep it. You're true to yourself, and true to your beliefs , there's nothing better than that. Sadly, those who still believe in what this country is and what it still strives to be are in short supply. Stay strong my friend
@@missd9785 Yeah, they'll be mad at how America is messed up now,all those poor men that gave their lives in the wars, just so America could be free, and we're arguing on who to vote,I believe if we didn't have politics, then everyone would get a long with each other.
@@otisjr3341 I'm a little surprised we let any politician influence how we treat one another. Maybe politics should take up 5% of our yearly thought?? All I know is it's taking up too much collective thought these days and it's not only during election years anymore. Hopefully we'll get back some semblance of allowing for love and respect soon.
I thank you for taking off your hat and respecting the anthem. My husband served in the Navy for 30 years to protect the rights of fine Americans like you.
Patrick Henry is my ancestor…this must be where I got my fighting spirit! I love this country, I’ve served it and I will do it again. We shall win. “GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH” ~Patrick Henry~ Happy birthday America and happy independence due to the most brave men I’ve ever read about!
@@sandralybrand9425 I'm am veteran that also says he has a right to do it. I just think that anyone that does, doesn't understand what it means to be an American or what that flag and anthem stand for and why we stand during it. That flag and anthem stand for an idea of what we could be and what we should be striving for. If you protest during the anthem, then you aren't just protesting what you are protesting against. You are protesting against the idea that America stands for. The idea that we are all equal and free to choose whatever path we want in life. If you protest during the anthem, you are protesting against equality and freedom, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
@@RogunK the quote about how an American “would rather die on his feet than live on his knees”. The actual person who said that was a Mexican revolutionary.
Go to Ft McHenry and listen to them tell the story of the flag. Everyone holds an edge. It changes you. That was my happy place when I lived in Baltimore. It’s surrounded by the Bay and so beautiful.
And (at least when I went many years ago)…. a video telling the story is shown at the visitors’ center. At the end of the video they naturally play the Star Spangled Banner. The right wall in the small auditorium is glass but covered with curtains. As they slowly open during playing/singing of our National Anthem at the end of the video, there is the replica 15 star and 15 stripe flag still flying. To be there and hear the story, then the National Anthem is played and unexpectedly have the curtains drawn back to reveal a replica of the same flag flying on the staff was pretty emotional. Anyone who thinks this video draws out emotions, if you ever get the chance, needs to stand on those grounds at Fort NcHenry and see the same (replica) flag still flying.
The algorithm must have brought me here. I sang this as a kid in school and never really paid attention to what I was singing. I hope this video reaches many more people. Thank you for this video. I appreciate it. 🇺🇸
When I was a kid in the 70s a guy named Rocco Scotti sang the anthem before every home game. I'll never forget. He sang it over 5,000 times in his life. I'm sure there's one on RU-vid.
Why? The music for the US anthem, isn't even American. It's an English drinking song, that was written three decades earlier. The Muricans couldn't even create an original anthem.
When my kids were between seven and 10, in the early 2000s, I made them listen to this once a year. And they grew up to be pretty good patriots and amazing citizens.
Amen Pegasus, I was born and raised here and I’m very proud of this country. Once you’ve seen this you have an even bigger respect for our beautiful flag. God Bless America. Happy Birthday America ❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
We stand for freedom but we are NOT a christian nation and people thinking we are is exactly why there is such a division in our country right now because they are trying to force a christian regime upon us.
Much respect that even though your recording a RU-vid video that you still removed your hat and held it over your heart! I can easily say without doubt your pop is proud of you for your stand not being scared to post your patriotism in these troubling times!
One of our local news stations here in the Chicago area interviewed several people who had just become citizens. It was either on July 2 or third of this year and there was one lady who said Americans don’t know how good they have it and that is why people want to come here. We need to all listen to that message and one of the quotes in this video, that Americans will die on their feet before they live on their knees. We do not need a dictator. We need to save our democracy.
Fine. Except bother reading the founding documents. We are a Constitutional Republic not a democracy. We are living under a Facist president right now. We need to get back to our founding MAGA!
Great reaction. I don't know when they stopped teaching this in schools but I remember learning about this in school in like 2nd or 3rd grade & it made me proud to be an American back then! When football players started taking a knee during the national anthem, I stopped watching football. They were flat out disrespecting the men and women who sacrificed their lives so we all could live free. No, we didn't treat the Native Americans or Asians or Blacks right in the beginning but we realized the error of our ways and grew as a nation and changed. Blacks in America have it much better than their cousins back in Africa who sold their ancestors into slavery. Asians, Latinos, and every other nationality or ethnicity who came and added their culture to our own has only made us stronger as a nation and more inclusive than any other country in the world. The fact that in Los Angeles alone there are more nationalities represented than at the UN shows how much of a melting pot we are. Most Americans cannot trace their ancestry back to one country, nationality, or ethnicity, but instead find that they are a mix of many different cultures, peoples, and ethnicities. I've had ancestors on both sides of both world wars, yet I'm able to find pride in both cultures, and still be proud to be an American. Our great seal says it best, E Pluribus Unum ~ Out of Many, One.
I live in Baltimore , 3 miles from that waterfront. Everytime I go through the tunnel that goes from one side to the other , I picture that battle in my head. There was also a bridge named Francis Scott Key Bridge which is the bridge that just collapsed from being hit by a cargo ship. 2024 Everyone should come to see Fort McHenry and picture that battle in their minds.
Yes as a military kid this rings true. I can remember being a dumb kid in military barracks waiting on my dad coming home after his day in the cession marching 21 at the tomb of the unknown soldier. All that stuff meant something all I remember caring about was when my pops came home. I’ve been back as an adult with my wife looking at those same barracks all these years later. Mercy they look the exact same.
Former Army MP. Stationed at Fort Carson right there in Colorado. Now you actually understand why we get so pissed off when people kneel during the anthem, try to burn the flag, or purposely drop the flag on the ground. Especially those born here.
My grandpa was in world war II My uncle was in Vietnam I was in the military but it was only during Jimmy Carter but I stand by my country and its history no country like us God bless The United States.
Not true. Canada, Australia, other countries in the commonwealth, Germany… lookup flag desecration laws for a full list of places where it is legal. Or are you referring to strictly flags of other things in the US?
The US has a federal statute that prohibit also displaying a flag upside down for anything other than a distress signal, not petty political statements.
