There’s a Pete and Dud sketch where they are discussing art while having sandwiches in the National Gallery. Dudley Moore spends half his time stuffing sandwiches in his mouth to stop himself laughing.

You just cannot beat the comedy genius of these two when recording their 1979 improv session for a LP. "D.erek & Clive get the H.orn" is on RU-vid. ( I have to write it that way as RU-vid doesn't like the word H.orn in a sentence with two men's names in it).

One indelible memory from my youth is sitting in a mate's car, listening to 'Derek and Clive Live', stoned off our teenage faces and laughing until the tears were streaming. It's the first album I can remember that came with a warning about the use of profane language, and it's still one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

Also: the comedian who did the introduction in this video (Jimmy Tarbuck) And The veteran BBC journalist and newsreader (Peter Sissons) who announced the deth of the Queen Mother And John Lennon (the Beatles) all knew each other and went to the same primary school in Liverpool

Mrs Mills sold millions of LPs of pub style piano music. Her specially tuned piano at Abbey Road studios was played by many 1960s pop groups including The Beatles.

The introduction to this clip was done by the comedian Jimmy Tarbuck, who is still going strong in the business. I saw him outside the church at Ronnie Corbett’s funeral.

The concept of two apparently dull working class cloth-cap blokes being so informed is hilarious. I'm working class so I don't mean anything derogatory. They talk utter crap with ease, using genius comedic delivery. Pete was always trying to corpse Dud with ad-libs. Thanks for this.

Mate you gotta do 'A Life in Pieces' a BBC production with Peter Cooke as his aristocratic lunatic Sir Arthur Streeb Greebling. It is a series of 12 episodes- the 12 days of Christmas..... absolutely hilarious. There is the individual eps or a full compilation. Gotta do it man. Enjoy

Pete and Dud were brilliant. Would you believe the BBC wiped half their tapes when they'd been broadcast. Shocking loss. There are still bits left over from their series - Not only....but Also... they are worth tracking down. The art gallery is one of the funiest, done live, no second takes or editing back then, as you will see. They appear as these two characters again, mac and scarves. They were a popular part of their repertoire. Peter Cook started off doing monologue's in the guise of E. L Wisty a strange character sitting on a bench given to musings on people and the nature of life. Usually short, they are oddly compelling. There are a few on good old YT. I've seen one or two.
