I believe it has to do with the fact that a lot of words used in Tagalog come from Spanish, which is a Latin language just like French. I'm a native French speaker as well and I believe Tagalog must be easier to understand to me than to a native English speaker who doesn't know any Spanish for example. According to Wikipedia: "About 40% of everyday, informal Tagalog conversation is made up of Spanish loanwords." Qu'en penses-tu Pierre?

Can't wait to see what's next on that island. There's a lot of regular tomato ketchup or catsup in local supermarkets by known brands such as Heinz and Del Monte, etc. There's actually a history on the origins of the banana ketchup. It was invented by an enterprising Filipino at the onset of WWII when there was an acute shortage of tomatoes and an oversupply of bananas.

Pinakurat is a brand of vineger made out from coconut and is a kind of Vinegar here in the Philippines. Coconut vinegar is a natural product obtained from a natural process of fermentation, with no preservatives or chemicals added. ... Vinegar is produced by alcoholic fermentation of coconut water by adding 10-12% sugar. It will become "Tuba" if you drink it weeks or months before it will become a vinegar in the process.. so there's a Big difference between the two. Tuba Tastes sweet alcoholic coconut juice while "sukang tuba" or Coconut vinegar tastes sour..and is perfect if you ferment spices in it.

Pinakurat is basically just vinegar, but the original recipe uses coconut vinegar or tuba in Filipino. It also includes chilies, native ginger, garlic and other spices which would make the Pinakurat taste better. Try it with Chicharon or Lechon. It's heaven. 😘

I became aware of my health in my first year highschool until now. I'm in 4th year now and my father just died 9 months ago because he eats/ drinks what he wants. He didn't really care about his health.

Suka (vinegar) PINAKURAT is a vinegar from the coconut and is one of Iligan City's Pride (Northern Mindanao). Pinakurat is a Visayan word that means "to surprise/ shock". It is because the spicy-ness of this VINEGAR, "shocks/brings out" the FLAVOR of ANY FOOD you DIP IT INTO. There are many "flavors"--- the original "pinakurat", the "waykurat" (not spicy,),"kuratsoy" ( with soy sauce and calamansi), "pinakurat sweetened" (spicy with a bit of sweetness). and i think there is another, which is MORE SPICY than the original )i don't know the name, sorry)...... I HOPE, you bough a little bottle and tried it.... it;ssss GOOD, hehehe, you'll forgert your diet. Anyways, hope it help. Love from Iligan City, hehehe #iloveMyOwn

Pinakuratan like from former comments is Vinegar. Spiced vinegar. It's from the Visayan dialect word "kurat" meaning shocked or surprised and the prefix 'pina' is added which means 'to do or have done something'. So pinakuratan means "to shock/ to surprise". The condiment is so sour and so spicy you get surprised at the first taste.

@agracerm...fragmented sap? fragmented means broken like glass, ceramic, or something brittle. You must mean fermented sap? And tuba is not a sap. It'a a nectar from the coconut flower. A sap is a liquid coming from the trunk of a tree when you cut it. A nectar is natural essence coming only from the flower. The freshly harvested coconut nectar tastes very sweet. Toddy gatherers add powdered mangrove bark to give a deep orange red color to it before bottling them for sale. Fermentation takes place in a few hours after harvest, thus the tangy taste. Thus, tuba is a product of a natural fermentation process after a few hours of harvesting. Tuba becomes bahal after one day of fermentation when the alcohol level increases. Bahal becomes bahalina after two weeks or more when the alcohol level reaches that of a vodka and the liquor now taste much like vodka.

Pinakurat is a vinegar made out from cocunut. That is the kind of vinegar people should’ve used as a vinegar on their Balut Taste Tests because that is originally the vinegar for the balut. And another fact, coconut vinegar is the best vinegar to be used in almost all finger foods in the philippines, even on unripen fruits like green mangoes, guava, “Santol” It is also perfect as a sauce that you can dip your lechon baboy or lechon manok

Olla!!! Nice! Nice! well you probably know it already but EDEN is a famous, probably the most famous cheese brand in the Philippines before I remember in '90 Ques-O was the no. 1 or most famous cheese brand. Our martketing professor said that The Philippines is the number 1 patronizer of drinks or products in Sachet such as 3 in 1 coffee and juice.

It is Eden cheese. The Sukang Pinakurat is a kind of vinegar sauce/dip. It is spicy because of the spicies soaked in it. Suka is Tagalog for vinegar.

I'm glad that you guys actually researched and tried to find out what is in a Filipino supermarket and not just blatantly comment like most ignorant youtubers who make videos. Obviously you are in a different country so one should expect differences more than similarities yet other people just full on comment without properly knowing what they should see.
