That feeling of being pestered by shop assistants is exactly how Brits feel in US restaurants - we want to be checked up on once or twice and left alone the rest of the time! I know a lot of Americans feel that isn't customer service at all, but to each their own!

The thing that Americans don't seem to realise is that with your 'free' insulin, you can live a normal life, hold down a normal job - and pay normal taxes - which helps pay for your, and everyone else's, insulin, seizure medication, chemotherapy, birth control, wound care ... etc etc ...

In the civilised world, health is a right and guns are a privilege. In all seriousness, it would be wise to spend your pregnancy overseas (before you're so developed you're banned from flying) - pretty much wherever you go, it'd cost less to live a year there than the $40k+ the US system would charge you for giving birth. (Also, in most other countries, you'd not be paying for the overpriced and surprisingly toxic food that is legal in the US but not elsewhere.)

In the UK if someone is hovering around you or asking if you need help - most would get pissed off or just walk out. The fun comes trying to find someone when you do need help, because they hide if there's no counter to find them at... That's still better than being followed, interrupted or getting the hard sell.

In USA they tried to get insulin capped at I believe $35 for everyone, but it was obstructed in Congress. However, the administration managed to do it for seniors and, if re-elected, would push through for everyone who needs it.

Hospitalization in the USA, God forbid. Like the one lady hospitalized for 8 days, that would be absolute financial bankruptcy in the USA. Those 8 days alone would cost more than the same stay in a 7 star hotel in Dubai. You feel totally exploited and you can't do anything about it.

In most countries from the richest to the poorest health care is free or very cheap. In Australia, it's free; however, cigarettes and alcohol cost an arm and a leg to inhibit their consumption and fill the government coffers to help achieve this. The USA sees this as socialism (and it is). Instead, not only are 50 000 citizens per year die from bullets but are also inhibited by exorbitant costs of health care to keep them alive.

Please consider: Please read all the books you can on natural childbirth, plus Lamaze breathing, plus Bradley breathing (I used both), plus La leche league books. Know more than the doctors. Have him fully train with you. He’ll be a BIG help. Don’t sign anything giving the doctor permission to do an episiotomy. If you have trained in breathing techniques and know how to relax every muscle in your body (even your little toe!), you will have complete control over your own body and you will know how to stop pushing so you will not tear and you will not need the little mean cut called an episiotomy (it creates a scar so for next baby pushing will hurt, not feel good. Yes, pushing feels good if you know the breathing techniques that will stop the uncontrollable urge to push - when they ask you to stop pushing). Caesarian is for dire emergencies only! Don’t have a doctor who does them a lot because he wants the big bucks!!! You have to plan all this in advance because no one listens to a woman in labor. You become invisible to them. I was very young but I knew what I wanted and got it. When I was 14 my older sister went into labor and totally panicked. She had not read one book about birth or done ANY research. She didn’t have a clue. I felt bad because I couldn’t help her. I think that’s why I was determined to take control and research EVERYTHING and do it MY way only 4 years later. I’m very happy I did. I chose a small, personal hospital for the first baby and home for the second baby. Drugs are never needed if you are trained and prepared. They don’t help anyway. They make things worse actually. Good luck!!!! Include daddy in every step! After baby is born, sleep deprivation is REAL!!!😂

congrats, i live in the UK, you are not allowedby law to work those 80 to 100 hours, we have what is called the working time regulations, the max you can work over a 17 week period is is 48 hours, you can work 60 a week maximum, but only for a limited time, those extra hours have to be adjusted, so over 17 weeks it averages to 48 hours, you cant work more than 13 hours in a day, by law you have to have 11 hours off between shifts, this can go down to 10 or 9 at times, again has to be adjusted as a average, you cant work 7 days a week, you can do it one week and again over a period it has to be given back to average, its complicated, but this is just to give you a idea. i have broke it down simple

The hospitals are overwhelmed in countries with national health care precisely because people go in for colds and other things that don’t need a visit or can be taken care of by a primary care physician. And it’s almost impossible to get a spontaneous appt with a personal doctor.

I live in Australia. I can call my dr and go see them that day. I can get into a specialist within a month or two but they usually triage so if it’s urgent it will be sooner. Surgery in a public hospital will be immediately if urgent but waiting list if not, length to wait will depend on the place, surgery and urgency. My daughter just had an emergency c-section, she was in hospital for a week, the baby was in NICU 2 weeks, it all cost nothing. She also gets a weekly Midwife come to the home and mental health care pre and post natal - all free.

As a German I can only speak for Germany for certain. But I'd wager a bet that it's very similar in most of Europe. Everybody in Germany needs a mandatory heath insurance. Period. No exceptions. Unemployed will be covered either by the unemployment, or for long time unemployed the welfare office. As an employee you have the choice of entering ANY insurance company you want to. It just may be that one insurance company offers slightly (very slightly) better benefits for employees of one company over another based on the specific contracts between insurance provider and the company. Here in Germany a total of 15% of your gross monthly wages is your insurance fee. Of those 15% an amount of 7.8% is paid by the employer, 7.2% by you. This will be automatically deducted from your wage slip and sent to the insurance company by your employer. For that ALL medically necessary procedures are covered 100%, no questions asked. Period. At any doctor or hospital of YOUR choice. Not the employer, not the insurance company. Your choice. There are no in-network doctors or hospitals. If you know which type of doctor you need, you can seek them out yourself without gatekeeping by your GP. If you've got an infection in your throat go see your ENT doctor. Or your GP for some minor stuff. Depending on your yearly income and your health status it might be more cost effective to seek a private health insurance provider vs the statutory healthcare providers. But you need more than 60k € per year for that to be even a reasonable option. Here's the clincher. If only one of a married couple works or has an income then both spouses and all children are fully covered by the statutory health insurance at NO extra cost. Kids may remain on this insurance plan until they turn 25, OR if they are full time employed and a legal adult. If you loose your job you do NOT , I repeat NOT, lose your health insurance. For the first six weeks the unemployment office will cover your insurance premiums, after the welfare office. But only for statutory health insurance. If you are in a private insurance company, everyone in a family requires their own insurance plan. And once you enter private health insurance you can't go back to statutory insurance (at least, not easily; there's a trick how to return to statutory, but that's beyond this comment). So be careful entertaining the idea of private health insurance for just minor benefits. Private insurance may get you faster access to some highly sought after specialist or you may get a single bed room in hospital. Some doctors practices accept only private patients after they've filled their normal patients slots. However private insurance usually is a LOT more expensive than statutory insurance. The only co-pays are 1) 10€ per day of hospital stay up to a YEARLY limit of 240€. This is to cover your food costs. 2) Prescription drugs cost either 5€ or 10€ per three month supply, OR for the full treatment, whichever is shorter. The 5€ is for generic drugs, 10€ for brand specific drugs. However over-the-counter drugs can run a bit higher, such as Aspirin, paracetamol/tylenol, etc. But usually you also get higher dosages than in the USA. But even so drugs are still very cheap here. 3) Dental and eye corrections like glasses or contacts are covered only the most simple choices. In dental its the most simple reconstructive care. In those cases if you want more than the minimum you have to cover it yourself. BUT: if you want supplemental insurance you can mix and match to your heart's content at fairly low prices. Everything else is covered. Ambulances, even emergency helicopters, are fully covered. Especially parents get a LOT of benefits here. If a pregnant woman still works she receives a mother's protection time before and after her due date. At least two weeks before, and four weeks after her due date she receives 100% her salary/wages, as her basic mother's protection time and she is free to stay home. This isn't parental leave; this is Mutterschutz/ mother's protection. Parental leave begins AFTER that. Parents receive a combined 52 weeks at 100% salary, during which they can't be laid off. Their jobs are safe. Period. IF the parents want to extend this time they have to apply, and they may receive another 52 weeks but at 60% wages/salary. Still guaranteed to be able to return to their job. IF there are ANY complications during pregnancy the mother is ALWAYS protected. If complications prevent a mother medically from working she will be covered by the insurance for all the time until her due date or termination of the pregnancy at full pay. During your pregnancy you have roughly one regular checkup per month, obviously free of charge. You also have the right to a professional nurse assisting you with preparing for labor and birth. These nurses will come to your house, both before and after the birth, to assist in any matters of the pregnancy and childcare. There's a whole lot more of benefits for parents (like Elterngeld = government GIVES you money per month per kid as support). If you're interested check out Ashton from the channel Type Ashton, or Jenna from Life In Germany. Both have great videos on the topic. Seriously, consider moving either to Germany or almost any European country for the duration of your pregnancy, and maybe some time after. You can't spend more money moving here than even a simple hospital stay in the USA would cost you. I suggested Germany simply because I can guarantee my claims. I'm just not certain enough for other European nations. But they aren't significantly better or worse than Germany. Some details will vary, but the overall result will be better care for less money with virtually no hasdle. Especially as the USA has the worst (!yes, the worst!) child or mother mortality rate among all OECD nations.

It costs quite a lot of money to give up your US citizenship - you can't just say you want out of it. Plus as well as the fee, the IRS charge an exit tax of 23% on all your assets. And, you can't renounce your citizenship of a country without first getting citizenship of the country you wish to stay in - that can also take quite a lot of money and time.

Yes 2,000,000 because the costs involved in US healthcare are so high, yet have the poorest outcomes across 1st world countries and the lowest life expectancy. My daughter has ALL and she is in a facebook group which also includes people in the US who also have leukaemia and just as one example my daughter has a patch for anti sickness called Granisetron and the US charge $750 for it when it only costs our healthcare system $30 to purchase it which is then free at the point of contact to patients. It just seems as if Americans are happy that healthcare is a for profit business rather than a healthcare system which works to benefit all.
