@@benhood5492 Yea. At least for my company, we have 4 medics, 3 medics for each platoon and 1 senior medic who reports to the 1st SGT and CO. If I ever have a problem that I can solve I’d call over the Senior. There’s absolutely no reason why so many medics would be crowded around a casualty. Also all the infantry dudes should be combat life saver certified (CLS) so they could handle these issues in absence of a medic.

Yes! That is one thing I don't think I have ever seen in a WWII movie. Those first aid pouches on their belts were there so they themselves to use on their wounds before a medic could tend to them.

@@tgd2984 Obviously not modern CLS. But they had individual first aid kits (IFAKs) to buddy aid and self aid with.

Question, why are you a 1st Lieutenant when you're a doctor? Isn't the minimum direct commission rank for doctors Captain?

I think it would be very difficult to accurately represent the recoil with blanks as the actors would have to mime the recoil and people would undoubtedly overplay or underplay it

@@thesnake2620 Back then no, but some years after this movie, they learned tricks with blanks loaded with more powder and opening up or closing up the barrel bores to showcase more felt recoil and/or more or less shown muzzle flash. Back then, it was just all the same and call it good.

Not anymore anyways because those techniques have been used millions of times over and they've been basically perfected AND a good weapons handling safety crew and staff have the right training to show the proper production crew and actors properly. However, it is starting to become a huge issue of safety as the more Hollywood becomes anti-gun, and "woke", they're hiring the wrong people because of political views and/or "diversity" reasons...! The Alec Baldwin situation is a (possible) good example of hiring the wrong people who know squat about firearms or safety!

CGI can help recreate that.

@@user-vh1nc8uk8x No it wasn't haha. They used it well enough in the one shot of the movie after D-Day of the entire beach full of troop ships and such. Only 5 years later, they recreated all the landmarks of Iwo Jima with CGI in Flags of Our Fathers. It was possible. Also, it was 1998, not 2000.

@@Theakker3B CGI could've helped, but it would definitely both overshoot the budget and might end up looking inauthentic since most of the movie was done in practical effects.

This scene and some others in the film were filmed in Ireland. Landscape in Wexford and Wicklow ( east coast) are similar to Normandy. The extras are actual soldiers of the Irish Army and the tax breaks made filming in Ireland an attractive option. I have a "behind the scenes" book about the filming.

Not "Bad", he just here to point out what accurate and what is not. He can point out the many ridiculousness of the movie and he has done so in the past even to his favorite war movie "Black Hawk Down" which also had a fair share of inaccurate facts. However, if you have been around this channel for a long time, you should have already know that what his take on the movie no matter how much tiny inaccuracy he finds doesn't necessarily determine whether the movie is bad or not it just that the movie had a lot of inaccuracy and some ridiculousness that's it. It will only be bad if it misrepresented a real historical fact.

My grandpa was in the korean war (im not a yankee) and he told me a story where his friends died by a single mortar shell (or something similar), when he approached to see what happened (he was close so he was the first in see it) he saw something horrible that he couldnt describe me, my father told me that he wasnt the same after the war.

I had a chance to talk to few Russian WW2 Vets , growing up in Russia in the 80s. We would have Vets come and talk to kids at schools a week before D-day (May 9th), about the war . Many times Vets would have hard time finishing their stories because emotions would take over. Some even would start crying. At the end of the stories, kids were aloud to ask questions. One time we had a woman who was a med during WW2 and she was very emotional when she was telling us stories. At the end, she was asked what was her worst memory , and she replied that she constantly hears word " Mama" in her head, because that is who wounded call for. She said that most of wounded would just call for their Moms over and over. There is no conversations like we see in the movies. Also, Medics were not allowed to retrieve wounded during the battle, but had regular soldiers bring them to trenches if possible. If Med is dead, she could not help anyone and more would die.

hurtgen forest was a meat grinder. I think HBO made a movie about it called 'when trumpets fade". Too bad it is almost forgotten, overshadowed by D-Day and Bastogne.

One of my high school teachers is the granddaughter of a d day veteran who was wounded there. Here's were it gets crazy, she married a German and his father was among those defending the beaches.

Plus I dont think the Germans and the other european peoples fighting for the axis would willingly shoot at medics with red cross markings. That's not to say medics were safe they can still get killed from shrapnel, ricochets, etc. If this was in the pacific theater fighting the japanese that would be a different story. It would be suicide to perform first aid on a down man out in the open in a fire fight against the japanese.

You’re talking about targets 100-300 meters from their defensive positions, obscured by smoke and debris, and the chaos of so many moving bodies. Hard to tell who’s a medic and who’s not, even with the Red Cross. Not counting the fact that the German defenders were primarily ill trained, many were conscripted POWs, and were unprepared for the fight. While they wouldn’t have intentionally aimed at medics, those conditions made it nearly impossible to identify them.

@@milkduds1001 true but you have to admit it would probably be worse if they were fighting japanese on the beaches of Iwo Jima. Japanese soldiers didnt give a fuck they would go out of their way to kill medics. Most of the guys manning the atlantic wall bunkers on that beach werent even german a lot of them were Czech guys.

@@joshuaortiz2031 without a doubt it’d be worse. We still deal with that today. Islamic Extremist organizations specifically target our medics. Which is why all modern medics don’t wear identifiable medic insignias and all medical vehicles must be capable of hiding their Red Cross.

Yup! That's one thing that probably bugged me the most bout this movie, honestly. I own an AR15, M1 Garand and an M1A 'Scout' (18in barrel). I'd love to fire my Garand and M1A as fast as an Ar15, but it's physically impossible while being as accurate! Lol Other that, they did do a fantastic job on weapon play.

@@cameronharris2669 At a 100yrds, yeah you don't hit much with the M1 or M14. M14 is a bit easier, but only cause I've mounted a short rail on the bottom so I could mount up a vertical grip. But an AR15 has almost zero recoil... Lol

@@spoopy9689 Not much besides using live rounds or pretending. Live rounds doesn't seem smart in the hands of actors so pretending might be an improvement. Unless there is a way to increase the recoil of the blanks, I'd imagine there is a way.

HistoryLegends is my favorite Ukrainian war analyst when things go badly for Ukraine. Things now go pretty well for Ukraine. Supply line between Bakhmut and Lysyschansk secured (which means the Golden Bridge isn't working as planned yet), the fortress of Severodonetsk is holding for now, they stopped the Russians at the Siversky Donets south of Lyman (probably because of the Chalk Mountains) and now the Ukrainians are even starting a counteroffensive north of Kherson. It's a pretty flat terrain with only tree lines and high grass to hide in. So it's the question if Ukraine can hold it. Do you even know the purpose of this video? This is part of the series of "How accurate is it?" its obvious that he will pick everything ridiculous in the movie and tell you how is it not accurate and put in some historical context to describe how it would usually goes down when compared to real historical events because that's the whole point of the whole this video series. He didn't just do this to take shot at Saving Private Ryan, he done this to every other historical war movies as well. I'm not sure for what reason do you feel the necessity to point out that this is an entertainment product because its clearly is.

@@TheGoober2100 its 2.5 feet from entering to complete stop for MG42 bullet, obviously bullet becomes harmless much earlier that stoping since there not enough energy to penetrate anything, bullet loses almost all of its kinetic energy at first 20 cm. And that a full caliber gun, if its pistol or intermideate rounds - they would lose it much earlier

ya but compared to a light 30-06 hunting rifle its really not bad IMHO...more then what they show in this movie for sure...lol...the sights are my favorite part of the m1...very good ..loading is tricky no doubt but muscle memory and repetition you do not even think about it after a while...cool gun though..
