I really liked the reheating to demonstrate how much flux was left after the initial cleaning. Haven't seen that method used before, but it works quite well!
Hi and thank you for your comments 👍 Yes it was surprising just how much flux was left in there after a quick clean. Even I thought that the IPA would have dissolved a bit more during cleaning. I guess It's rather tough that Amtech stuff 🙂. Cheers. John
I use the wider tipped Plastic syringes. I buy the tubs of flux and then fill the syringe manually. A tip for the 559 is to heat your syringe with your hot air station on low speed to heat up the flux a bit. This makes squeezing it out of the syringe very easy like the 213😂
Hello mate, thanks for the comments. To be honest I never had much of an issue dispensing the 559 flux, especially with the 16g nozzles. I can even use the tiny 26g nozzles with the 213 and it still comes out easily. Could be a different situation in colder environments though 👍 Cheers John
Thanks again for the tip (pun intended) about the knitting needle silicone tips to use on the end of our flux syringes...got a whole slew of them the other day at the local crafts store.
I’m trying to get into micro soldering and I’m looking for a safe flux and solder. Should I get lead free? Which solder/flux is best and safe Also which fan/exhaust will you recommend? I just sub to your channel. Thanks
Its up to you whether you use lead free solder or leaded. But leaded solder flows easier and thus it's easier to work with than lead free, so many choose it for that reason alone, including myself. I use quite a few brands. But mostly Multicore 60/40 leaded solder. For flux I can recommend both of the Amtech fluxes in the video, they both work fine as general purpose no clean fluxes. Beware of fake Amtech fluxes I just use a general purpose extraction fan attached to a hose, but even a computer fan will work fine for getting rid of small amounts of funes. If you need a proper extractor just search solder smoke extractors on Amazon etc
Yea it's all personal preference I guess. You can't go wrong with any of the Amtech stuff to be honest. Well unless you choose something that's way off in regard to its intended purpose 😁 👍
Hi.. Not at all. My flux comes from an official Amtech distributor in the UK.. bga-reworking.co.uk/ You may have to call/email them first to request the VS-213-A if that is what you need, as their website currently only shows stock of the Amtech 559. They did tell me that their website etc should be being updated soon to include the VS-213-A.
If you need a little more working time out of the flux the 559 is a great flux. However if you're used to soldering & rework and like a flux that is easier to clean-up then the VS-213-A is better IMO.
