Fallout has a TV show now. So far it's riding on near universal acclaim. Some saying it's completely destroyed the Fallout canon. While others say that the show is 100% consistent and nothing has been changed. Well I'm gonna try and see if that's true.

I more find it funny how easily they are able to travel between the West and East Coast with essentially an unknown environment and lack of supply lines (that we know of) to bring the Brotherhood back West. In Fallout 3 it seemed like they struggled just to make it to DC and lost people along the way, but its always been something that has bothered me about Fallout lore is the vast territory you have to cross on foot no less to reach each coast. Now saying that, we don't know the state of central states and their condition to determine how much if a struggle it is, but considering there is little mention in any of the games on the nature or environment of these territories it just seems weird to allow what essentially feels like fast travel plot wise between both coasts.

About 30 minutes into a viewing of the first episode with friends, I came to the conclusion that the show is a soft reboot. Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas do not happen in Bethesda's Fallout. The only games that matter to the show are the ones made by Bethesda; 3, 4, and 76.
@Faintwolf

I can totally see where you’re coming from and agree, but I disagree with the New Vegas part. They’re for sure setting it up to be a super important part of the show going forward into season 2, and I think (maybe moreso hope) that they may try and do what a lot of fans are asking for; give us the canon endings to new Vegas and all it’s dlc. Plus that Todd Howard interview with IGN confirmed that the tv show is included in the canon to the fallout games, as well as New Vegas. The show takes place after new Vegas as well. The only thing I couldn’t find, was if the first 2 games are still considered canon or not. I personally think they are since Todd just said the show adds to the Fallout Series canon, not specifically just Bethesda’s fallouts, and there’s the references in the show via locations since we never see them in a Bethesda fallout
@goopguy548
@goopguy548 3 месяца назад
they don't recon 1 or 2 though? they refer to one more than once in the show, with the water chip thing and in the world, shady sands itself is a reference to fallout 1. and Bethesda doesn't have the overall say on how to do it. they set up a contract. mostly it was just don't set canon endings and don't ruin the universe and being that the writers love the games they know enough to be able to care about them.

I really don’t see where you’re getting the soft reboot idea from. The show does nothing to step over Fallout 1 or 2.

With all the other retcons and errors the devs made I think its pretty obvious they just messed up the date. I'm not saying its impossible for the bombs have happened at a later date but its clear that the devs originally intended it to be 2277. The timeline board says 2277, the book in the nuked shady sands elementary school locker says 2276, Lucy's mom is believed to have "died/Starved" from a plague in 2277. The quarantine from the plague acts as perfect cover for Hanks family to be missing. Then there's Lucy's age to take into account. The game states she was six while outside vault, if that's 2277 then shes 25(27 irl) in present 2296, where as Max would be the same age(35 irl). If the nuke happened later at 2284 but Lucy was still outside the vault at 2277 then max is supposed to be about five years younger since I think the child actor was six or seven at the time of filming. Which is really bad casting because Max's Actor is almost ten years older than Lucy's. The way they talk in the final ep also seems to imply the nuke happened immediately after hank took his children back so it seems unlikely this is the case. And finally if we are to presume Lucy was out of the vault at 2282 with the bomb dropping the same year then we run into even worse problems. Which now means Lucy's mother couldn't have "starved to death" in the plague and the quarantine couldn't be cover for them missing. Additionally Lucy tells us she had "10 years of cousin stuff" which with a 2277 date means it started at 15 but at 2282 means it started at 10. So I dont think I need to go into how that's problematic. It really just seems like the writers and Todd made a mistake and are now just retconing it out with the 2284 nuke date. Anyway I would legit only give this show a 4/10 it is not a well thought out piece of media but it is a fun watch and they have pretty decent stuff in it, just don't think to hard about the narrative just as you would a standard Bethesda property.

Other thing with Vegas is Ulysses mentions that Tunnelers will start to work their way into the Mojave. So I see ending either: NCR wins, but still licking their wounds after Hoover Dam, then their capital exploding led them to abandon Vegas to chaos and creatures. Yes Man in which case the natural chaos and disorder of the area let tunnelers work their way in starting at more frontier towns. Either ending the Courier is said to be at Big MT per that DLC's ending so either not present or somehow killed admist all the fall
@PapitoQinn

I wonder, can tunnelers get into the Big MT? I mean cazadors and nightstalkers were able to get out and they don't even burrow underground, so I guess they could. Oh and supposedly the fog from the Sierra Madre could creep its way to Vegas too.

Overall I think the show is great, I'm glad to see the mainstream acknowledging that video games have artistic value and showing that to whose without interest in gaming. It's kinda annoying how they keep the wasteland in the same perpetual state (Enclave and BoS well and alive and no large factions emerging to form new nation states), and it makes me wonder how Vault-Tec actually nuked Shady Sands? Presumably they had Enclave do it but how does Enclave seem to have unlimited resources despite getting blown up in every damn game?
@PapitoQinn
@PapitoQinn 3 месяца назад
That would suggest that the Vault 31 managers have a way to contact the enclave. Enclave remnants at this point technically? But yeah, I'm not sure if they have a stockpile of tactical nukes somewhere. Hank just kinda waltzed in one day and casually craters Shady Sands?

but it's also possible that vault 31 just HAD the ability to do that with a few nukes or something being that they wanted to "cleanse the wasteland" then having the ability to talk to the enclave may or may not make sense being that it might have allowed them to talk to house with doesn't work being that he's dead (so if they could talk to him he would know if he was dead or not)

I'm not sure he was turned into a ghoul. As for the serum, the packaging makes me think it's pre-war. But 219 years of ghouls, or some ghouls taking it? Makes me think it's post war somehow. Seeing that Cooper seemingly needed a daily hit.
@ProudAjax
@ProudAjax 3 месяца назад
@@PapitoQinnI say he's a ghoul because he shares two traits with them. First is his physical durability and second is his implied immunity to radiation. When you get down to essentials, the scorching of the skin is not a side-effect of being a ghoul it just so happens they have scorched skin because of the way they were ghoulified. I believe the serum was a pre-war item mass produced for some other purpose and just so happens allows the ghouls to stay non-feral. It just doesn't make sense any other way because if it was post-war, whoever was making it would have to figure it all out from scratch before the ghouls all turned feral.

1) Considering that food is scarce, it could be that what there IS to be found and eaten is of low nutritional value, naturally some individuals with poor metabolisms would eventually develop weight problems. This is common in Latino America for example, poor people can become rather fat despite not being able to afford much food. Unless you're joing, in that case I am fucking stupid and a clown 2) In FO2 we are shown behind the president a big map of various Enclave bases all around the world. The US was a large and very powerful country before the war, it is safe to presume that even if the Oil Rig was destroyed, they still had secret bunkers and bases all over America. Personally what bothers me about the Enclave is how shallow and bland as a faction are. They were beaten back so many times in so pathetic ways that I can't help myself from rolling my eyes when the writers try to present them as these "Big threats". I would rather see descendents of these Enclave enclaves trying to carve a future for themselves. 3) My personal headcanon is that all ghouls are their own thing, is not really a race but rather people being afflicted by different but superficially similar set of conditions. 4) I don't know what the show gained from taking place in the West Coast, was it for fan service and shock value?. Why bother with this region if you're going to nuke it back to small settlements and raiders, now it looks worse than it was in FO1. Todd Howard's comment about the ultimate fate of the rest of the Republic is so vague btw. He didn't want to give any final answers to what happened to them because he still needs them for future entries but at the same time refuses to show them as anything other than minutemen with cowboy hats because we they need conflict. The wasteland will always be stuck in a perpetual state of constant struggle for survival because of the writers. 5) Isn't these technically the east coast? They were sent from the Commonwealth to the west, otherwise I can't explain the T-60s. We know they don't recruit adult outsiders but meaby they take in orphans? The Midwest brotherhood certainly did that at least. 6) FALLOUT DUST IS CANON AYYY LMAAOOOOO

a few enclave bases falling is something, but being that they can slaughter most of anyone without an issue and only struggle with god's of the waste I think it's easy to put them as a villain when you are following more balanced people. the ghoul couldn't do much about X0-1 armour much less any of the better stuff. and being that many of these bases have been left to research for hundreds of years without contact with god's of the waste they could easily have better tech. the same way the institute was a threat you can see that the enclave is

Sadly I think season 2 is going to play it safe and have a "stalemate" outcome for the Mojave with no clear winner as not to upset anyone. I feel like a house victory would have been best from the PoV of the TV series as this is the one that most likely allows viewers to see an intact Vegas strip

So hoover dam could still be there maybe set up as a settlement like in the concept art for van Buren or it gets destroyed.

the oil rig self destructs because of Frank Horrigan, a lot of Enclave members had already left before the oil rig exploded.. in 76 the game is set 25 years after the great war so it kinda makes sense that the Enclave are there.
@KaosNova2

The other part at the end of Fallout 2 is that the NCR also raids Navarro inland and sacks it as well. What New Vegas did with them made a lot of sense because the leadership was screwed in that overall area. Other people who used to be Enclave simply weren’t Enclave anymore or their kids decided to not be Enclave and join the NCR like Arcade Ganon.

I think that anti feral serum is something developed on the west coast between Fallout 2 and the Show. Ghouls are only getting older so would make sense they would need to develop a way to counter becoming feral. @@kieranhurst8543 The narrative is literally nonsensical. Just look at the inciting incident where Maldova kidnaps Lucy's father. Maldova is shown later in the series to have a close personal relationship with Lucy's mother, probably that of lovers and is also a savior to vaults. This being the case she has her raiders essentially rape Lucy and massacre the innocent vault residents with blatant disregard, she doesn't even care if they kill Lucy and her brother or even Hank the person she needs. Also she just leaves Lucy and norm in the vault for no reason. If she cared about their mother she would take them with her and if she didn't she would still take them with her because they act as perfect leverage against hank in order to get the codes.
