A few years ago I wrote a fan letter to Bob newhart. I forgot all about it. A few months later I got an envelope. It was from Bob . He wrote me a very nice note thanking me for it . It's one of my most prized possessions. He's a really classy guy.
Just received Mr.Newhart's autograph in the mail. I sent him a show ticket for a taping of Newhart and he sent it back signed. I sincerely appreciate this awesome funny man.
That’s an awesome thing to hear Newhart is a gentleman. And I was just looking at my show ticket I kept all these years . If I knew someone close to me, I would get that in the mail and present to them. I got Sean Connerys many years ago Had it addressed to a friend that was a huge fan of his. I am fans of these guys as well. I found that good feeling of giving something unique to someone that gave me a sense of happiness far more than collecting autographs for myself I got joy from just meeting these people who bring joy in the work they have done
I just sent a couple of greeting cards to mr. Newhart and I'm hoping to get one of them autograph to a good friend for her birthday. But most of all I hope that everyone gets through this situation we are currently in. This flu season is very scary. But I mean taking a dietary supplement called ultimate monolaurin it's a coconut derivatives that kills viruses on the cellular level. It can be bought on eBay or amazon.com. God bless all everyone please be safe
I remember Suzanne saying in an interview that when she was at the Newhart final cast party, that she slipped out because she said it was not her house, but was Mary Frann's, and people were trying to get Suzanne and Bob to read lines and stuff from the original show, and Suzanne felt that it would be disrespectful to Mary. I always thought that was so classy of her
You all prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
For everyone saying he looks old and frail, he IS old! Good grief! Are you so used to celebrities so stretched and pumped up wih botox and fillers that you cannot just appreciate you elders and what well-deserved old age looks like?! Some of you sound concerned, but others are just arseholes! Also, he is still pretty damned sharp for his age; he has always hesitated or kind of stammered in his delivery. That is Bob Newhart! Goodness.
But he does look frail, not necessarily old and this was three years ago? My mum is old (93) but is a full sized well fed woman, not frail looking. My dad, who looked a bit like Bob here died at 72 and did look frail. I think most people are concerned so don't get upset. John Cleese named Bob Newhart as one of his influences and here is the great Bob Newhart naming a Monty Python moment in his last show. Hats off to you Bob. Loved his Newhart (Vermont) series. It was shown at weird hours in Australia but he has a loyal band of fans down under and always will.
@@Mmdmade Oh, so that is how it will go. I'll tell my 97 year old mother that she'll have to wait a while before she is reunited with dad. Do you really believe all that?
Me as a fan of the 80s Newhart show took it as an offense and disrespect to make the Newhart show just a nightmare was so sad of a beautiful quaint wonderful show. Bob Newhart’s wife must’ve hated the 80s Newhart show
I remember in the 70's when I was a little kid I wasn't really into the Bob Newhart Show but Newhart OMG? that was my top favorite and still watch it today so glad to see Bob and some of the cast from the show and sorry that the other cast members are not here with us cause everyone from show made Newhart #1 there will never be another show like this one from the 80s Blessing to everyone of Newhart
Newhart is such a lovely guy. His humor is gentle and heartfelt. I remember him when he first became widely popular with his "The Buttoned Down Mind of Bob Newhart" album. Now we are both old. He still makes me laugh.
We recognized those sheets and that bedroom. That's true fans, and that speaks volumes about the lasting impact not just Bob Newhart but the Bob Newhart Show has had on people.
Coincidentally, I had two sets of sheets just like that, in two different colors. Got 'em at the Navy Exchange in San Diego in '72. So yeah, I recognized them too! Also coincidentally, I bought a used bed at the same time that was exactly the model used in Beaver's room in Leave it to Beaver. I think it was originally sold by Sears in the 60s. I still have it.
It is telling that Bob was very good friends with perhaps the funniest comedian of all time. (Don Rickles) His acting ability was top notch for a sitcom and his humor was unique. I always loved both of his shows. There was something about them which I found to be comforting.
Always loved Bob Newhart his ist piece I heard was the driving instructor Why I found him so funny was his dead pan and that I could visualise the scenes and the fact that his stories were a possible reality
"...wear more sweaters." I do remember that line. Hearing Bob Newhart talk about 'the boys' is one of the most extreme juxtapositions of all time. Jerry Lewis does it also, but it's not as surprising coming from him as it is from Bob.
Bob is old and frail, but his mind and sense of humor are undiminished by time. And that finale of Newhart, while sort of expected--dream sequence--is still funny!
Okay, both of his shows were very very good but best of all time for a sitcom? I'll go with the Rockford Files as my top pick, then Seinfeld, and finally MASH before choosing the Newhart shows.
I give ya great sitcom. That doesn’t take away anything from Newharts contribution to television. I was kinda to young ( and my parents didn’t watch) Bob Newhart Show. I caught on with Newhart Hard to rank a Best ever because each era of television has its gems. Mash is up there. Cheers certainly was one of the greats along with Taxi and Seinfeld. And I Love Lucy in its day was funny. Does not hold up as well today, I don’t think. But still has some funny moments Later on, as in more recently Will & Grace comes to the forefront as well And I’m missing some , I’m sure will cross my mind. Bob Newhart is under rated, as a comic actor Thanks Mr Newhart. U know your good when your best friend was Don Rickles , another comic that is sorely missed
The words don't come out quite as fast, but when he's got them ready, the timing is still incredible, the pauses just exactly the right length. Whenever I listen to Mr. Newhart's Sir Walter Raleigh story on CD, I still almost fall out of my chair with laughter, even though I know what is coming. Has there ever been anyone as good at doing a half a phone conversation? Shelley Berman? Very good, but this good? When Mr. Newhart played a police chief who has to talk his green underling through defusing a bomb on the beach, he goes from deadpan (sorry, Mr. Newhart) to frantic, to repressed frantic, to annoyed, with such certainty that the listener believes the situation completely, which makes it funny. Such a great actor whatever he does. Love him! Have always loved watching and listening to his performances.
I watched the entire series twice since the series was complete and ended. I also watched it when i could when it was actually on every Monday and taped VHS when i was working as much as i could. i think Jerry Seinfeld used this idea of just going out on top from Bob Newhart.
Was all fired up to see this great comedian many years ago at a theatre near me. At the last minute, the show was cancelled due to not selling enough seats. I was both annoyed and shocked - and yes, disappointed too. Never did get to see his act, 'thanks', all those people with no taste..........
It's a delight to hear Bob reminisce about the show and I want to hear more. The finale of the show was surprising and funny, but the dream premise should not make us forget the genius of so many wonderful episodes. I feel that the Newhart show was one of the most memorable comedies from the 1980s. Its comedy was over the top, the individual regular characters were unique from one another and unforgettable, and so many other characters over the course of the series, along with imaginative scenarios. Everyone had their great lines, but each one had their turn at being the butt of a joke, but no one more than Bob's character--Dick was so modest, a nice guy, and really a good friend to the others while at the same time being unappreciated. And he always had the perfect and funny comeback to someone's ridiculous behavior or remarks. He and Joanna were like a mom and dad to Michael and Stephanie. I liked how the series over time explained how Michael and Stephanie were raised and the origins of their annoying but funny ways. Somehow the writers and actors took narcissism and turned it into some crazy comedy. The town seemed to be populated by the 'never really grown up'. And viewers are puzzled why they're so charmed by the scruffy woodsmen, Larry, Darryl, and Darryl. I've said, and heard others say I don't know why I like them, I just do. My thought, they seem like kids suddenly bursting into the room after a day of wild but innocent play. Well enough said...yes.... I've been binge watching. It's just a great show! But one more thought--I forgot to mention Tom Poston's character George Utley. Episodes featuring George are among my favorites😊
The Newhart episode he was talking about where Dick hosted an interview show and the guy who went up the Amazon and discovered dinosaurs has made its rounds on RU-vid. Hilarious. Bob Newhart is the greatest, seems to be as true as he was back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. A famous blooper from Newhart where Joanna called Dick, "Bob," and Bob the actor had a good time with that. Long may Bob reign.
"A famous blooper from Newhart where Joanna called Dick, "Bob," ...." Or are you confused and it was Dick who called Joanna "Emily"? That actually happened. At the 3 minute mark of this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g10N6wHoV-E.html
I grew up watching Newhart and was grateful to watch reruns of The Bob Newhart Show when I was older. Bob is just a treasure. Bob is the last remaining in the old era of the greats comedic talents.
We never gotten to see it. When the bedroom scene with Susanne Pleshette was axed by our local affiliate when the set went dark to do a news at 11 promo Had to wait for the rerun
The thing that sets the great comedians and writers apart from the rest is the use of clean humor. Sex jokes are easy, you have to think and be creative to develop clean jokes. He is a master at it.
Bob is one of Chicago’s greatest exports. Can’t help thinking about Bob when I see the apartment building on Lake Shore Drive that was used to represent the Hartley home.
A friend of mine who lives in Las Vegas ran into Bob Newhart and even got a pic with him. He said Bob is just one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet.
So basically his wife said Newhart show it was junk and stupid so why not just make it a nightmare that is so disrespectful to the fans of the 80s Newhart show. The 80s Newhart show was such a quaint beautiful little show hilarious some of the best TV I’ve ever seen in my life. Larry Darryl and Daryl was much loved by the fans Julia Duffy was an heiress but she was Just owned a little bit by her mom and dad so she had to work at the in. What a shame his wife must’ve hated the 80s Newhart show for her to come up with that.
@@webman1956 no, His wife simply said because of all the quirky weird people of the town over a month and they’re weird and stuff why not just make it a nightmare that is disrespectful even Mary Fran wasn’t happy with it when Bob told her about it he had to convince her.
I know Bob Newhart had his own show where he was a psychiatrist (or a psychologist, can't recall) with "The Bob Newhart Show" where he was married to the late Suzanne Pleshette (again, may be misspelled). He also had "Bob" and then "Newhart". All were very funny and entertaining. So I wonder WHY hasn't he been honored at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts?!!! He must be in his 90's by now. Let's hurry up and suggest to the Kennedy Center that he's MORE than earned it!
god. it's great that he's still plugging along God bless him, and I know he's (very) old, but he looks worse than most zombie movies I've seen. someone please try to pack a few pounds on the guy! wish we'd heard more about Mary Frann, he's right, she had a tough act to follow but did it so well.
Bob Newhart, John Mullaney and me What do we all have in common? We all went to the same high school, albeit at different times - different eras actually!
I thought he was referring to the Bob Newhart Show, which was 6 seasons I believe. Maybe it was 7. Later Julia said 8 seasons for Newhart. Whatever. I do vividly recall the finale of "Newhart", and to this day I thought one of the best.
I remember being able to listen to Mr. Newhart’s comedy albums in the “soundproof rooms” in the library. (This was during the early 70’s) I was hysterically laughing when the Librarian opened the door and asked me to listen to something else so my laughter wouldn’t disturb the room!
Unpopular opinion. Loved “Newhart” as well as “The Bob Newhart Show”, but I skip the finale. Overrated, and kind of ruins the whole concept of the show. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.
