Day 10 of training here in Iten, Kenya with Running Trips. Today I took advantage of a recovery run day by going down to the Kipchoge Stadium in Eldoret, Kenya (2100m above sea level) to see how the Professional runners train. Followed by a trip to famous St Patrick's school where David Rudisha's talent was nurtured. And last but not least we had the privilege of talking with 2x World champion Abel Kirui. Ben, what a brilliant series this is…. Waking up every morning to a new @Benisrunning video showing us the Iten action. Thank you… you’ve been spoiling us… we expect a daily video from now on when you get back!

Great stuff Ben. Was hoping to see you have a go at breaking the school pole vaulting record!

Ah, brother Colm! The legend. Did you know he had no idea how to train athletes when he started in the 70s? He learned to work in sync with the natural talent of the athletes and the environment around them. Someone once asked former 800m WR holder Wilson Kipketer if he ran to school, assuming it was part of his 'secret'. He told them he didn't and he walked across the yard every day to school! Anyway, a school of legends and I don't want to bore you

Thanks for this great series, Ben. I'm going to try and recreate some of these runs and experiences on a local level. Minus giraffes, unfortunately.

A crazy idea for a future youtube video of yours: Do a long run very slow (like slower than 5:30min/km) but answer some of the most frequently asked questions to you on social media. I think it would be a very fun video Keep up the good work in your normal running vlogs though

Hi Ben. A fantastic series. From your trip to the school you can see how much status you get from winning international events. As a child at St Patrick’s, you are subconsciously taught that if you win you get idolised, and will have a place in the museum. You can understand what a huge motivator this would be in driving athletes to be the best. When the difference between Gold at the Olympics or 4th can be a fraction of a second the athletes must be under monumental pressure. This comment comes with no agenda or judgement, but have you heard much about doping? As Kenya seems to have a significant problem at the moment, which I can fully see why… status/financial.

you can see how there is already a path on lane 1 because the track is being used so much

Feels like you are just getting started into the good stuff now but it's almost over! Do you think 3 weeks would be optimal? One week to acclimate to altitude, then a good 2 weeks of workouts.

Hi Ben! Quick question - I usually cross train for my doubles in the afternoon during the week; is there the opportunity to do this? Also, if I came out at the end of July/beginning of august - would it be detrimental if I was in the build up to ncaa cross country season starting 3-4 weeks after I returned?

What is the opportunity for half marathon because if we train for half marathon then in which bigger events we participate?? because in Olympic and commonwealth games half marathon event is not present

Before you leave, do you think its possible to jump in with one of the professionals training groups to see how long you can hang in with them?

These are athlete's at work, can’t be having amateurs jumping in every day, no matter how strong. Man Utd wouldn’t let a semi-pro football “have a go”
