In this video, I give an update on my experience with the trade repurchase (or buy back) process on my 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV. Spoiler alert: I still have my car, so not much has happened, but there is some new and encouraging information.
A couple brief notes from the video: my car has been eligible for battery replacement for a couple months now. I could have taken this option at any time and had my car "fixed," but I've opted not to do that. This entire buy back process has required entirely too much time, effort and frustration on my part. It has been going on for nearly 8 months now, and to have it all end with a result that would have required exactly zero effort on my part is no longer an acceptable resolution for me. GM has asked me to run a gauntlet in order to get a trade repurchase, so the least they can do is reward me with a reasonable trade. IF GM had allowed me to get a battery replacement AND still get the trade when a vehicle is available, I'd have opted to do that. I've already been told that the first thing that will happen when they take possession of my old Bolt is that the battery will be replaced, but I was given a hard "no" when I asked if I could have the battery replaced and still take the trade. They made it very clear (after asking multiple times) that if I have the battery replaced under recall, any and all repurchase options would be voided.
Hopefully I will have more information on this in a few days time, and hopefully it will be good news. In the meantime, please have a safe and merry Christmas, happy holidays, and I will see you next time.
