Analysis: How to Pick a Character 

Theres only two reasons i pick a character. One: Style Two: it's falcon

you do not pick your character. your character picks you.

My main: Menat, reason, she’s hot My real main: Ken, reason, I’m bad at Menat

I main the: ? They are pretty good since they're in every fighting game.

How I normally pick a character if 1. If she’s hot 2. If she’s top tier That’s why I play Birdie.

How I choose my fighters: 1) Ignore tier lists 2) Who looks cool 3) Who has cool abilities or does things I like 4) How hard are combos, strings

I usually try every character and the one I have the most fun using becomes my main. The problem is that every time, the character I main is at the bottom of every tier list

I don't fully trust tier lists because like Ryu says, the answer lies in the heart of battle.

When I was young I would choose only cute girl characters. Now I still use those characters because I got used to them

I've been picking ken since I was a child only for the fire shoryukens

I main Sakura because I saw myself in her. I wanted to get better at fighting games because I admired players like Daigo and my more experienced friends at the time. She was cute, so I chose her, but I quickly found out how well she fit me. We both also admire Ryu, and for me, it goes back to admiring how much my older brothers would beat me up with him in Street Fighter II on SNES. I was awestruck and wanted these people to recognize me. So I went to practice and practice in hopes of one day coming back and showing them my true worth. And when it happened, becoming the best in my friend group didn't stop me. I'm always chasing Ryu.

I picked Asuka in Tekken mainly because she practices Aikido, which I train irl too. It's fun seeing it actually in action lol

When I was a kid, I saw a Melee demo at Toys R Us and decided to play Samus because I thought he (originally believed Samus was male) looked cool and futuristic. Over time I got really good as her and it even helped shape my playstyle as a zoner in other fighting games, like Dhalsim and Scorpion. She's been my main in Smash for 20 years all because I thought she was a cool looking sci fi warrior.

The first fighting game that I played seriously is fighterz, and I instantly main base vegeta, simply because of his "command grab" that is a reincenetion of the time he killed Nappa. And I simply love that scene because its defines the character a lot more than his death in namek

I remember playing Tekken 3 when I was little and maining Hwoarang because of his simple infamous kick combo that I can mash. Now I'm stuck with him.

I pick my character if he asks his opponent if he/she is okay

Hisako from killer instinct is the perfect character for me. She has a lot of personality, every detail has a bit of story telling, and her playstyle is perfect. She has a lot of tools to use in a match, and she can be pretty unpredictable with the amount of ways she can attack.

I feel weird that I mained a character out of sentimental value, King was my big sister's second favorite character behind Yoshimitsu. When we played together she'd have me play King. My big sis gave me her ps1, Tekken 1-3 to have for free when I was about 8. I've been maining King since I was 4 years old, won 4 tournaments, & came in 4th for my only State tourny I've been in. I'm 21 now, still playing as King.

Personality: When I was a little kid, I'd play Kirby Now, JOHNNY CAGE BABY

My main: mk 11 kabal, i really have so many problems in my skin and that character really make feels good with that and because i really like's his personality

This video really resonated with me. Being a player of a long forgotten fighter called Power Stone, it often felt futile to learn the game's ins and outs. My main, however, was the embodiment of what I loved about the game and video game characters in general. Besides the fact that he feels good to me and fits my playstyle, he also embodies the passion of a young man to follow his dreams.

My favorite character in all of gaming is King K. Rool, so when he got announced in Smash, you have no idea how excited I was. I hadn't played the previous two Smash games at all, and now I waited up until midnight on release day for this new one just because it has a character I like in it, so I'm more willing to deal with his weaknesses just because I like him so much as a character.

I go for mid tier. Low tier: people want to show off/prove they have skill. Top tier: Others will claim you are cheating for using broken characters. Mid tier: are in the middle and no one blinks an eye. (+)

Using low tier God to show people who focus on using weak characters is way off. Man uses mid-high tier characters and still rage quits ranked matches.

for me, the factors of picking a character is 1: them not being evil 2: them being fun to play as 3: thats it

I've always kinda picked like this, I first chose a group of characters I like the design of, while I lock out characters I hate by design, then I start going thru the characters I like and pick the one that fits my style best. Usually do to this I never end up with the character I like the best, but I end up with one I still like, but can also probably play the best. In my language there is also an expression that basically means "fits your hand" to express things that come natural to you more than others.

Imo the only thing that matters is what character you find most pleasing, aestheticly or otherwise. The time required to learn a single character is so great that if youre not excited about your choice, youll most likely never have the motivation to put in the hours.

Me picking Potemkin: "Cause I like high chances that I might lose."

When it comes to my character choice, I always prefer playing as a speedster type that typically hits weak but, fast. I love speed alot and I can't stand being a slow heavy hitter. I also like playing someone that just generally looks cool and interesting/familiar with such as in a crossover. One of my favorite characters to play in UMvC3 is Phoenix Wright, I love Ace Attorney and wanted to put the time in learn how to play him

M. Bison. Reason: the first time I picked up a fighting game, SFV, he was infamous to me for his power. Oh boy did he goddamn deliver on that. He walks and stomps all over his opponents with a smug grin and crossed arms and I absolutely love it. I stuck with him ever since I first tried him out and I've barely played any other character in my total 33 hours of playtime.

Follow your heart. Don't need any tier list character to choose which one will make you feel good. Not everyone is the same.

How to pick a character: 1. Find the edgeiest character 2. Play him or her until you grow up to an adult 3. Choose anyone else.

The test of a well balanced competitive game is where it has a tier list but it is almost entirely inconsequential. The ability for casual and competitive players alike to pickup whoever they wish and have the potential to succeed in their respective fields is really impressive.

In the Tekken games I tend to main King quite a bunch. I was really into wrestling back in the day, especially Rey Mysterio. The fact that King was a luchador who fought for children practically sold it for me, and I haven't looked back since :)

KoF Angel main :) I like how her playstyle is completely different to everything I have ever seen. So I gave her a shot, and here I am, using the most difficult and infamous character SNK has ever made.

Such an interesting watch! For me (far away from being a pro player, usually somewhere around mid to high rank), playing a character whose personality - what is called character in the video - I can identify with is probably the most important part when choosing who to play. I don't much care about tier lists, and it actually kind of boosts my motivation even more when I play someone who is considered mid or low tier and I get to a point where I start stomping much "stronger" characters. Always favouring and rooting for the underdogs 😊

How i pick characters: 1. Are thier moves cool looking? 2. No super complex combos please. (Looking at you SNK) I ended up picking Rashid for Street Fighter 5 And Lars for Tekken 7

I main Talim. Because she as a pure heart and is so sweet. Her fighting style is super fun to play and in Soul Calibur 6, they actually made her visually use her powerful wind enhancements which clearly make her looks like she actually uses winds spells.

I play guilty gear and from the get-go Ive been maining Chipp. His hyper aggressive and focused playstyle, coupled with the fact that hes a more comedic character perfectly suits me. Because I like to be flashy and risky, but I try not to take myself too seriously. And the thrill I get when Im on a sliver of health and one wrong move can make a difference between whether I win or lose a match makes getting a clean clutch all the more satisfying. Even though my boy can get killed with a paper towel, I know Ill always enjoy playing him.

I remember when I first got into fighting games with Blazblue Central Fiction because of a friend, and tried to better myself but for a long while I actually didn’t know my playstyle and was curious as to what said styles were. I then found a video giving a broad explanation of the types and they said that Puppet charcters are ones that take that extra effort to learn, because your essentially controlling two characters. (ie; Chaos from Undernight or Zelda from Smash Ultimate) and I was hooked. Sometimes listening to someone else talking about it and if what they say makes you intrigued, or think “I feel that”. It helped me realize my favored weapons and play styles in not just fighting games :)

I remember playing tekken 5 back when i like 2010. I was so young back then i picked king because i thought he was a tiger. Then last year i just found out king and armor king are jaguars.

I main Captain Falcon cause I just want people to show me their moves.

I main Big Band and Squigly, because they’re actually nice people and I like both of their stick motions.

I just started playing Tekken, but I've been maining King because of his flexibility and level of execution but I've also always loved Yoshimitsu because he's just fucking weird and he's a true challenge to learn. As Aris said, "Yoshi players aren't trying to win, they are trying to paint."

I use Karen because she juggles her opponents like I do my life problems

When I started mk 11 I liked how Scalet uses her blood as a weapon and can buff her self with it for a short while, then but I couldn’t keep that feeling like there’s still something that’s not clicking. And then I played Scorpion and after that first Hook I never looked back 💜👍🏿💚.

When I started playing USF4, I picked Juri as my main just because I loved the stance. Her endearing personality was just a bonus.

I main sin and testament in strive. It took me a bit to figure out what I really wanted in a main and long range buttons and high low mix ups were my thing. It also helped that both of them are interesting characters.

When I play a fighting game for a first time I usually pick the prettiest/sexiest characters. If I'm going to get my ass kicked I might as well look good while it happens.

I main Guile due to my background as a military vet, plus I like his style. I've also used Ryu as more a sentimental character as his values in life are things I strive to be. Stoic, yet not afraid of my feelings. Ready to meet any challenge life throws at me with honor. If you really think about it Guile and Ryu are really the same kind of person, just draped in the values of the culture they hail from. My two favorites... Also, Zangief is cool, but I hate Capcom for taking away his Green Hand. That being said I like him too. I love his patriotism and love for his people and the dedication he has to developing his body. God, these characters have really influenced me as grew up playing Street Fighter. I also identify with and play Cammy sometimes. I have PTSD and all the baggage that comes with it. I hate that I've discovered I've been used the way she has and Army girls kick ass!

At first I picked Claudio because I remembered him being pretty cool in the story mode, then I discovered his Starburst mechanic and I think that's really the selling point for me. Afterwards I played his character chapter and discovered that he's not really who he lets on, and that kinda reflects how I play him. I try to play hyper defensive until I can get Starburst and then I start fishing for combo starters

I remember playing every character in smash 4 when it first came out and trying them out against a computer. I was losing most of the time with Zero Suit Samus, but for some reason she just felt right. 6 years later and she's still my main in smash ultimate even with the change in playstyle. I just like her style and feel, plus I love the metroid series.

I am a Jin Kazama main because when you play him well it just looks so clean. He is like the Tekken version of how you described Ryu in that he is simple but he also has a lot of timing disruption moves. It’s pretty satisfying to feint a head kick then leg sweep your opponent. I’m starting to learn Kazuya too because he’s very similar but in my opinion has stronger punishers and more erratic attacks. He’s like a flashier Jin.

I’ve been playing Cammy and Vega since Street Fighter 2 because they just really stuck with me. Vega’s insane personality and cool appearance really appealed to me, and Cammy’s more modest and kind personality mixed with her militaristic appearance were awesome

I often take the character that looks the most balanced at the beginning. No fatty that will make me feel like the game is slow, no skeleton that will die in two punches. From there, I see how it goes and adapt.

While I do consider playstyle, I'd be a liar if I said I didn't pick Makoto in BlazBlue because she was a tough scantily clad squirellgirl.

When i pick characters i tend to think of these questions in my head: 1. Are they female? 2. Are they femme fatale? 3. Are they rushdown, mixup or setplay? 4. Are they acrobatic? 5. Do their powers look cool and magical to me? 6. When the topic of these characters are even mentioned do they send chills down the spines of (mostly male) fans? My favorite characters are mileena from mortal kombat, narmaya from granblue fantasy versus, hisako from killer instinct, metera from granblue fantasy versus, juri from street fighter, luong from king of fighters, bayonetta from smash bros, sadira from killer instinct, mira from killer instinct, killer frost from injustice, harley quinn from injustice, black canary from injustice 2, catwoman from injustice, zatanna from injustice gods among us, shiki from samurai shodown, lili from tekken, eliza from skull girls, eliza from tekken, zafina from tekken, enchantrice from injustice 2, vice and mature from king of fighters and athena asamiya from king of fighters.

How I picked my SFV main: 1. Pretty decent anti-air 2.Very poke-y 3.Some sick corner combos! 4.Have you not heard? He is Rashid of the turbulent wind; remember the name well.

I usually end up with a "weird" character or an old man. They often go hand in hand too and it works for me. Examples of weird and old are Jinpachi, Voldo, Xanadu and Baraka.

my favorite character from street fighter 4 is ryu and i loved playing him so much that i learned a ton of combos and actually got put it to use on my friends and family and i woke up really early just to practice more and more

I like Faust because he is goofy and I like the levity that can come from that. Like, doing all the fighting stuff is fun and all, but I laugh super hard when I accidentally die to my own bomb, it’s awesome

I don't know how many times I've seen this video but I love how I can come back to it and see new comments about others talking why they choose their characters. I choose my characters based on their design and if they have a stylish play style

Oro is the man (3S), hes an old man whos so strong that he fights with 1 hand only to challenge himself and that he hangs out with a turtle. Love it!

I often accidentally main some really low tier characters in the fighting games I play such as videl in dbfz, duck hunt in ssbu and terminator in mk11 and I have such a good time
