@@debramartin2854 that was a quote from the end of the movie. What is no one aloud to quote the movie now? Or sing the songs. It's a devastating powerful movie. When someone comes along and is touched by the message don't shame them. I only hope everyone feels that way about Strange fruit and about lady day. She wanted to be remembered that was important to her and that song was important to her as well.

@@debramartin2854 the statement comes from the documentary film, one of Billie Holiday's friends made the statement which was expressed to mean "they tried to stop her from singing the song, but, either Billis Holiday said it directly to a cop or one of her friends said: "your grandchildren gonna be singing that song" "the song's value will reverberate for centuries to come"...

Hard to believe this is Andra Day's acting debut. STUNNING PERFORMANCE. She completely embodied Billie Holiday. She humanized a legend. You could see her vulnerabilities and her strength; her beauty and her flaws. I always believed Lady Day to be a FORCE as a Black Woman, and Unique as a singer. But you really get a sense of the entire person thru Andra's portrayal. KUDOS. She earned an OSCAR with this.

Andra is the consummate Artist.. I found her 8 years ago on You Tube she brought her spirit to meet Amy Winehouse and she can sing anything.. I told my closest friends that ANDRA DAY will be a shining star 🌟 and I love when my instincts are correct her beauty.. she wore brown contact lenses and like Robert Deniro changed her body to meet the needs of the script.. Andra Day is a real artist and often Oscar Winners sometimes never work again I think that she will work until she decides not to.. I pray that I get to work with her someday.... The unfortunate truth of the matter is this is still happening in today's society! Lynchings and other forms of hate crimes are still being committed. Did you know that despite many takes on an Anti-lynching bill, not a single one has yet to become national law?!? The most recent bill I'm aware of is the Emmitt Till Anti-lynching Act. We'll see how it goes.

I clicked this expecting a cover. What I found was nothing less than transcendence. This song is always heavy, but Miss Andra Day gives it a weight which I dare say hasn't been seen since 1959. Sublimely powerful.
