I’ve listened to so many of Andrew’s podcasts and have watched him on other shows.. looking for the crack in the facade thinking no way this guy is this cool all the time. There is no crack. He is legit and clearly goes through the world with almost zero ego just dropping knowledge. What a gift to society. If you ever see this, Andrew: much love and thank you 👍

I am a therapist and have sleeves from my time in the military that while all PG rated, still include skulls, pin-ups, etc. I wore long sleeves out of respect of perceptions some of my patients/patients’ parents may have. I want there to be nothing controllable in the way of our relationship. However, I finally just got tired of sweating a gallon a day, and started wearing short sleeves. There has been no noticeable difference in how I’m received or how patients/parents open up to me. No one cared as much as I did. Reminds me of the saying, “Don’t take yourself too seriously, because no one else does.” People (most people) are good at reading others and judging based on merit, confidence etc., and we are often our own harshest critics.

The first time I've learnt about Andrew, but it took not even whole 7 minutes to appreciate how wise, amicable, interesting and pleasant he is.

He is class. He is grounded. He is loved by all. Thank you Andrew.

I respect the way Andrew feels toward this. My arms and hands are completely tattooed and I work in higher education. I recently was part of an event, where I spoke and simply chose to wear something I felt good in - A nice blazer jacket and button-up shirt underneath. To my surprise, at least three different people asked about my tatttoos and thought that the school asked for me to cover up. I just responded with: "Not at all. I just wanted to look nice today." just like anyone else who may have been preparing to speak in front of a large audience.

"You can't control other people's perceptions [of you]" is fundamentally the most important thing healthy people have ingrained in them. That notion paired with understanding you can control your reactions to things singlehandedly changed my life

I am in 100% agreement with Andrew and as a 44-year-old male that started getting tattooed and pierced at 15 it was such a different time back then in the 90s & as much as things have changed a tattoo can still be a distraction.

My dad is a Neuroscientist. Growing up, most of my friends had parents who worked in business, and that's what they thought was cool. I was always secretly angry that my dad didn't get the same kind of materialistic admiration from my friends. My dad did not care one bit, and it wasn't until I grew up that I realized that he was waking up each and every day trying to save lives and better humanity, not line his pockets and raise me and my siblings as spoiled brats. All my life, he quietly set the example. I love him so much for that. Ironically, I wound up an entrepreneur. My business is, thank God, doing well, and my goal is to acquire enough resources to affect real change in my community, because it feels, at times, like money is the only real catalyst for change in this country. But when I hear Andrew speak, I'm reminded that there are men and women working tirelessly each and every day to help humanity in small but powerful ways. I'm reminded of my dad, quietly setting the example with his 5am runs and his relentless work schedule. As long as there are people with as big of hearts as the people who dedicate their lives to building a better future for humanity, we're gonna be alright.

I love how he articulated the aspect on his tattoos. I myself have my entire body covered except for legs and I always like to cover my tattoos when I go out . The reason mainly for me is that I’m an introvert and I like to keep to myself and tattoos are like a conversation starter and I do not like interacting much as I’m quiet shy !

It’s so nice to hear someone talk about this. I also wear long sleeves a lot of the time because of this. I’m not ashamed of my tattoos, I just don’t want it to be something that people focus on, especially in certain work or social situations. It’s good to be aware of your surroundings in this way, because tattoos are something that people will notice right away and could be a distraction or lead people to make judgements about you before they even get to know you.

It's funny how Andrew Huberman is probably the person I've listened to the most on Podcasts (above Rogan) and I still didn't know he had tattoos and I love how he keeps such an irrelevant piece of information from his audience. Love the man so much! He made me fall back in love with my childhood love: Biology.

I’m nearly his age and definitely remember jobs requiring tattoos and certain piercings needing to be covered. As someone who has mastered sales (and has tattoos) I value how he presents himself and do similar. You only get one first impression!

He's such a brilliant mind. I'm incredibly thankful for having Andrew in our time and being able to learn with him.

This guy never disappoints! Andrew is just a good human and fantastic teacher! I have learned so much from him over the past couple years. Beautiful to see someone take their passion seriously and be so giving to share with others. Of course he is cool and likely has the best raptor tattoos but doesn't need to show them off. Even as a tattooer I am not a fan of face or neck tattoos for this reason. This makes a lot of sense and backs up what I've been telling people for years is that too many face tattoos make the face frustrating to look at and talk to. Careful, tactfully placed designs make most of the very few successes out there

WOW a teacher/Healer That actually said " it's not about me, it's about teaching, delivering a message" FINALLY ! So many spend more than half the teachings talking about themselves, then they interject themselves into it any chance they can. I've walked out of so many lectures/teachers because of this, switch off podcasts for the same reason. Bravo 👏

"Just be careful that you can't control the perceptions of other people" is such a wise statement. Despite some people being vocal about a subject they consider outdated (e.g. a negative opinion of tattoos), it takes many years for a shift in the public's eye, despite us wishing it was otherwise. Perhaps, then, it's in our own best interests to act in accordance to how the world is, rather than how we wish the world was or how we think it ought to be.

I continue to be so impressed with his mission. Huberman has changed what it is like to consume dry content and make it so exciting. To say he doesn’t want to be a distraction of his content is so humbling to hear. Love this conversation all around!

If anything, it's courteous and prudent to not flaunt. I really appreciate his approach, all the while being bold in his humility, starting with his tats.

I teach my students to NEVER distract from the message. I see it all the time on Ted Talks. People distract from their message by how they dress, something on their head or face, and certainly tattoos. This is smart and very, very Huberman. By the way, I also counsel to wear dark colors - black, gray - he does this. Great!

I just started watching Andrew, and the more I learn about him fascinates me. His life story is full of depth

I though my respect for Dr Huberman had reached it's topmost level after his very first podcast episode. Hearing this has just skyrocketed my respect for him even further. What an absolute mad lad this guy is.

I've never heard someone put into such succint terms why facial tattoos are so off putting to many people. Most people probably couldn't put it into words but it makes sense that we would have a negative reaction when our brain has a hard timer interpreting someones facial features. It also makes me wonder about certain warrior cultures who have a tradition of facial tattoos in order to give themselves a psychological edge against their enemies.

My path intersected with Andrew's years ago, and he is truly as down to Earth as he seems

I have several tattoos, but made the decision early on to not have them show when in a suit.

I love this because he is verbalizing a lot of things that I intuitively fell in love with tattoos for but had no conscious conception of. Tattoos are camouflage that can very effectively trick our feeble image receptors.

I appreciate the professionalism and wisdom of Dr. Huberman. I agree hiding the tattoos is the right thing to do as the it could definitely be a distraction to many.

I fully relate to everything Huberman said. I’m 40 grew up in the punk rock/ DIY scene, started getting tattooed when I was 16, eventually found myself choosing to go to college in my 30s and am about to wrap up my masters at one of the well known northeastern fancy schools (hard work and persistence pays off eventually). Growing up in 80s/90s I vividly remember the reactions and general (mis)treatments from others because of being judged for what they perceived “my image” represented. Times have thoroughly changed, yet I often feel that, at least initially, all people see (almost literally) are my tattoos, and often I get pigeonholed because humans fundamentally try to reduce you to one “essential” domain for easier understanding/categorization. I dislike, like Huberman, in-group/out-group thinking because I’ve been quite variable and fluid through different circles, however most people aren’t and can’t process well the real multidimensionality of people. Try traveling through Asia or other cultures (granted more conservative/traditional cultures) with sleeves. It’s not that pleasant. I’m so much more than my choice of tattoos, yet not to many. Which is fine, but to Huberman’s point, think about how your personal choices will affect what you want to do and prepare accordingly.

as someone with face tatts and other visible places, i got them during a very dark time in my life, i didn't care about anything. they really show what you feel on the inside. when i overcame that dark time i came out matured and reflected alot on them and myself to the point where i had very bad social anxiety and preferred to stay in doors, i have to be cautious where i am at all times because i travel for work. im over the anxiety now and just accept its my consequence of my own decisions, i carry my self with respect and show manners which in return make people more interested in me for some reason and in a way i develop more sincere relationships. from my experience i can just say be aware of the consequences if you are thinking about it, you'll need to learn to live with it if you are self aware or become self aware afterwards. if you don't like attention and to be more in the shadows (like i do) DON'T get visible tattoos or at least not from the neck and above.

As a nurse I feel the same way. I don’t want patients or their families to see tattoos on me and it cause them to possibly have less trust or distract from great care.

I like this take on tattoos being deeply personal. Plus the point of his tattoos distracting others when he is trying to share information is spot on. It is called professionalism.

As a fairly well stacked female teacher, I get what he’s saying. I dressed extremely conservatively and often in larger sizes because it wasn’t about my self expression but about the knowledge and my students’ well being and learning was the priority. I rarely wore makeup and found I was more effective that way.

I had started planning and designing to finally get a few tattoos that would be very personal to me then i read an article and research about the inks and paints used and there’s no regulation on what those paints are and not surprising they can accumulate in the lymph. Bummer but i decided to pass.

I have a sleeve tattoo and I choose to keep it hidden at work as well. He put into words what I felt. My tattoos are for me and I don’t always want others to look at them or for my tattoos to be the topic.

The man could literally wear a mask & still manage to command the room with his powerful presence. He can cover his tattoos, dim the lights, focus on the slides & still be the most delicious man in the room. His voice makes the feminine in me, sigh in blissful submission. Really enjoyed his explanation and perspective. I’m 22 and have no tattoos but plan to get sleeves. I’ve wanted sleeves for as long as I can remember and always been fascinated by tattoos. Instead of rushing into it when I turned 18 like I wanted to as a kid I’ve chosen to wait until I’m more established career wise, wiser so I can hopefully choose lasting designs I’ll always like, and wealthier so I can spend more money and get better quality for a lifetime purchase.

I just recently had surgery and had 5 lymph nodes removed. All 5 of them had black ink in them. Has definitely made me think twice about getting any more .

I had a similar background growing up in a local punk scene and getting tattoos. Even though times have changed people in a professional setting will always judge or attach associations to you based purely on tattoos.

Mr. Huberman is a class act. I’m 68. I’m from an era that very few people had tattoos unless you were in the military or a sailor or an ex-con. Many of my family members now have tattoos. I don’t understand the attraction and I personally would never get a tattoo. When I was almost 19 years old I was a passenger on a motorcycle that was broadsided by a car. The impact site was my left leg. The surgeon did save my leg. Possibly some of my distain for tattoos comes with being disfigured early in life. Either way, Andrew Huberman is accurate in regard to how we perceive piercings and tattoos. People can either heed his counsel or ignore it. Regardless of who you are, you do make judgments based on appearance. Don’t lie to yourself thinking you are judgment free.

Don’t care for tattoos but love Huberman. I was surprised that he had so many tattoos. Yes, I know lots of folks that are great people full of tattoos. I still sometimes take aback when I see someone with too many. I won’t deny it but I try to be open minded before judging the person.

I'm always amazed at how much I have in-common with Hubberman. Neurobio major. Used to skateboard and listened to punk rock. I keep all my tattoos hidden too. I tend to dress formally. Martial artist and bodybuilder. He's clearly an introvert too.

I have 4 tattoos; one on my back, chest, shoulder and forearm. Each tells a story about who I am and where I’ve been in life. However, I recently returned to my Christian roots and wish I never had them. Still, it’s nice when somebody asks me about them and I can share my story. But I will always try to cover up my tattoos when I go out into public (by wearing a long sleeve shirt) as not to be a ‘stumbling block’ for other Christians. God bless.

I feel the same. I started getting tattoos at 15. Mainly because of punk rock. It was shock value back then. I’m 40. But tattoos don’t define you at all times at every place you’re at. So, sometimes I don’t feel like people looking at my ink at all. Sometimes I feel like going unnoticed. Btw, I’m gettin laser removal.

The face/neck tattoo thing is interesting. I consider myself a heavily tattooed individual but when I see face tattoos out in public I'm always a little taken aback and could never figure out why I always had that knee-jerk reaction.

I've always been a big fan of well done tattoos, especially more of the Japanese aesthetic. I don't have any though because its just to trendy these days and I'm a bit too wishy washy to get something that permanent done. Andrew seems to have a great attitude toward tattooing. It should be a personal thing and not something you feel like you need to show off to the world.

The most hipster people now days ironically don't have tattoos. So rare to find someone that breaks this mold of refusing to ink themselves.

I found Dr. Huberman a few years back, put my husband and my son on him, and if you listen to his podcasts, you know that wasn’t hard. The rest is history.

This podcast is much better than any podcast including Joe's. When I watch Chris Williamson podcast, I was Like, "Damnnnnn, I like this guy". Keep Grinding Brother.

U feel you Andrew. I did simular things when I was a teen and now I live with the consequences of it. Mainly I've just grown and changed so much that they don't really make sense to my life anymore. Lessons learned.

As much as I respect and agree with what Andrew said, "Not giving a fuck” is also an important quality to possess, especially when everything is turning into a hellish inbred corporate landscape.

This man has been my Joe Rogan, since I saw him on Joe Rogan. I have the ultimate respect for every word that comes from his mouth. Joe Rogan, Huberman and Peterson have changed my life for the better, in their own, individual ways

I appreciate Andrew's perspective of his body art as it is called now. As I am even older than he, I find when I see someone with tattoos all over, I don't see the face etc, what he says is true. I would have to get to know the person more to be able to see beyond the pictures. I am also aware of some who wish they'd not gotten them and how much it costs to have them removed. Over time this process should become less painful to the body and the wallet, it's still something to be thought about before going into that parlour.

😳 woah. I’ve listened/watched SO much of his content and had no idea he had sleeves. This is very interesting and he has some solid reasoning about focusing on the data. Now I get his point and respect that, yet also have another perspective, being tattoos express a sort of authenticity aspect. Which to me, doesn’t (at least consciously) change perception in a negative way. Then again I also have a lot of them, so maybe that’s why. With that being said, I have heard on multiple occasions that people didn’t realize how intelligent I am until getting to know me (I say that as humble as possible). Which makes me wonder if my image is causing their perception to be of less intellect. My guess is yes.

I could listen to Dr. Huberman for hours. This was my first intro. Thank you.
