Animation DREAM Team! One Piece Episode 1072 BREAKDOWN 

One of the best episodes I've ever seen! I never freaking thought that Shinya Ohira would animate an episode of One Piece!

i love how they let the animators have total freedom for their cuts while animating gear 5 which is tottally in spirit of the form and what it represents! the only complain i have about the episode is the part where luffy's giant head smashes down where everyone else is, since from what i understood, the characters having multiple multiple eyes was done in the manga to convey the movements of them popping out in a cartoony fashion, but i dont understand why the anime copied it 1 to 1 instead of actually animating the eyes going full cartoon mode and popping out instead of having them multi layered like the manga, if that makes any sense lol

Man when over the top plays, tears were streaming! What an absolute spectacle sakugafest of an episode this is! Outside of some of Shimaya's own boarded scene that were just okay, this episode is amazing!

The Skypiea reference was awesome

Just like the manga, this was a proper showcase of Gear 5, and the episode did it the justice it deserved!

I thought BahiJD did the part where Over The Top starts playing, cause he tweeted that he asked the studio to let him choose the tracks playing in his part, but if that part was sb by Maenami i wnoder what was BahiJD talking about.

I really needed this vid. Now i fully understand who storyboarded each part of the episode. When action animators storyboard fughting sequences those are the most creative and staisfying experience ever. Also all kudos to toei for the extended bits in the ep made it all more grandiloquent.

Fantastic breakdown 👌 Loved the episode. There were many highlights, but man I'm just delighted we saw Onishi back! His sense of weight is something I never get tired of seeing. I personally didn't feel that much of a cohesion inconsistency because when it comes to a form like G5, I would expect everyone on every department to go as wild with it as possible, and just enjoy all the different styles popping on and off so that the show itself would embrace Luffy's goofy nature in its storyboarding and animation constructions as well as other aspects :))

Thanks as always Skippy for the breakdown. This was a tremendous episode and definitely amongst my favorite to date in the Onigashima section. The Ohira to Ota section was brief but absolutely breathtaking. I was in awe of it and honestly I thought it was just Ota. Credit to how alike and seamless the transition was between their contributions.

The whole lack of attachment to realism from the devil fruit itself, I actually think it is the only fight where so much animation diversity just works so dam well!!!

The series that changed my life basically single-handedly...animated by Ohira Shinya-sensei. Who I was first introduced to via my first authentic anime experience with Spirited Away. I love it here.

That scene where luffy went back to Gear 5 while doing the Gear 2 pose and all of those colors exploded? Feast for the eyes.

As usual I don't understand most of the technical terms, but walk away with a sorta adequate cursory understanding that makes me appreciate the episode's production more.

This episode was just absolutely amazing dude, the work of everyone was just so great. Soty is literally a beast. Keep up the great work Skippy!

I feel like they aced the timing of the classic toon gags a lot more this episode, the colour shift sequence in the Luffy Music clap back was a bit of unnecessary fluff but all in all, difficult to complain about much this episode which for me is a big win. There is a fan edit of 1071 that was on reddit and then a fight only version of 1072 and I gotta be honest, it would have made for one hell of a special if they had went that route.

are the scenes you show matching to who you discuss at that point, because the yamato scene shown while mentioning Bahi JD looks so much like ishitanis work, that i knew they worked on it without seeing the credits.

I agree it’s a little off putting to switch styles so dramatically and takes me out of the episode… but some of those changes are so pretty and fun to watch that I gave it a pass

I hate when they switch the animation style for no reason. Especially when they let that animator with the squiggly lines draw
