Ok but how does anyone hate this guy? He's literally trying to not only fix the game but also is trying to help people that are crippled bone wise by this game but don't want to give it up. This man is honestly amazing.
Yeah I'm refering to those that hate him over the box vs boxx controversy. Maybe it's a smaller crowd than I think but I just feel like this video should remove any of that
I"m really grateful that you made your previous video. Mistake or not it brought a topic a lot of people didn't think about. Props to you for owning up to your mistakes man. It'll be interesting to see how this whole thing turns out.
The first three minutes of this video prove to Gravy and Shitbox Dustin that Hax is not doing this to grab cash and run, he actually CARES about the professional scene
Bevan and? that doesnt mean dude isnt tryna go to the ends of the earth n back to fix gamecube controllers /just/ so he can play the game. he clearly fuckin loves smash
Clyde Stickler lol this wont save the community. I mean it could. all I see this doing is splitting up the melee community we just need arcade sticks that's all
Everyone's so afraid of not being 100% fail-proof (the box *could* ruin melee, controller mods *could* ruin melee) that they end up accomplishing 0%. Making mistakes along the way was necessary in order to progress. We've known about the issues in Melee and even how to fix them for a long time, but noon wanted to make an imperfect start to making those fixes practical. The arduino video was a step towards doing something, and an example of why flawed starts/testing new waters is better than doing nothing.
Alright this was said in last videos comment section, but the way how hax has his right side eye focusing on the script of the video and his left side eye focusing on the camera is godlike 20XX
That's at least what it always looked like to me. Obviously ,if at all, it is only very partial. But I always noticed that something seems off with one of his eyes, pretty sure it's not exclusive to these videos. You might wanna go thru some interviews or so to check it for yourself. Edit: Just did that for you, and yes you can see it.

Within the first minute of this video this man has already impressed me. Not a lot of adults can sit in front of a camera and admit when they fuck up.
True, and yet I'd argue that he even went too hard on himself; that despite not considering all the potential arguments in the 1st vid, he opened up a much needed conversation that just wasn't going anywhere before his vid. He did a service to the Melee community with that 1st vid, despite it not being perfect.
NESman1995 This video showed me that Hax actually has some reall fucking integrity. I was doubting him after the whole BOXX drama, but now I believe in Hax fucking money.
NESman1995 ? people do that all the time this is b******* this is not what Hax promised to the community he promised to make an arcade stick where the f*** is it
Woah theres even neutral start forces not dependant on port and it allows the analog to be registered as being held out 100% so the B0XX wont have a slight advantage. Good stuff Hax this might actually work.
clovehitch it is the uneducated who have the strongest opinions. knowledge brings understanding, understanding brings doubt, doubt brings humility, and the humble are quiet
I just feel its a step in the right direction, Im not saying this will 100% work since it just came out. We will need to test out new things at some point and if it ends up working B0XX legalization could happen after testing as well. not to mention getting a working good controller will be less of an issue where everyday they will be less and less. Nintendo wont produce GC controllers once they run out it will be a dead end from there and this helps this end be farther from coming potentially. Edit: The only change that seems subjective is the wavedash change, making it easier might turn people off this idea and I can see why due to reducing some of the difficulty but I only see it small since the other changes look for the better.
I am honestly fucking loving this project and I haven't even started playing. Been only watching the competitive scene for years tho. Hax is such a model to look up to, or at least should be for many people. Amazing man and amazing work.
This solution allows me to play melee how I want to play it without any physical modifications. I fucked up soldering my arduino miserably, so I appreciate the fact there's no physical work to be done to the controllers.
Hamza he doesnt... he's hax fucking broke because he hasnt been entering stuff because of his medical conditions. im sure this actually hurts his wallet a lot :/
Really cool stuff, can't wait to test it out. A nooby question though, are other actions with tight input windows, like shorting spacies side-B, affected by any polling issues? I imagine there could be some variation in the timing between the initial B press and shorten, given that each input is executed on the next frame, and the timing to the next frame could be anywhere from a full frame to like 0.1% of a frame. Doesn't that mean the timing window for getting the right shorten could be almost zero frames if you get unlucky? This is hard to explain. Obviously the real window should always be a full frame, but it seems to me that you can't tell when that frame will start or end based on your initial B press, and it's up to chance how far forward or back the window is.
It freezes on the screen (still playing the music though) whenever I select name entry from the menu screen. 20XXTE is not compatible with a 1.01 disc could it be that this is not compatible as well?
is there a way to set up or install this onto a pc? i play using dolphin exclusively. If not, it would be greatly appreciated if you would create a method to installing on a pc. Thank you. The main problem I have with changing this from a controlled mod to a mem card mod is what i just said, its not entierly adaptive and can only be used at certain times
I noticed on the mods portion of the website, making the entire lower range of the GC controller being a shield drop when L or R is depressed has been removed, is this true? Also, can I use this with 20XX 4.06? or will I have to wait for a 20XX 4.07 that natively has this mod like faster melee?
I saw your last video, and I was going to actually comment about issues with voltage that I have experienced. I mod my controllers, and my main mod is converting gamecube controllers to wii classic controllers. I have seen a lot og voltage issues, even shorting my controllers sometimes. It could be managed of course with some additional electronics work, but its a bit much.
I just played this and Hax$ just made melee better for me as a player and a consumer of all the Melee tournaments, events, and a fan in general, and this is really changing up to game bro. It made it more fun for me to be a better player not cause of controller bull but because I can utilize my given tools at my own will. You might have said you were Hax Fucking Broke, but your Hax$ in our hearts (and our hands)
Is there a way to use this with 20XX. Nintendon't has the "Emulate Memory Card" function, so is there a way to install the save file that way? My memory card is corrupted? Can I fix that? I don't even have the Melee disc. Am I kill?
Sounds good Hax$, but how does this apply to tournaments? The tournament organizers would have to install this onto their wiis, and if they don't we still have to deal with shitty controllers : /
Just a suggestion, show case your mods playin with other players and have then put their input while theyre playing. It might help remove the stigma and be introduced into the competitive scene.
Love the website url lol. Seriously though, you're the man, Hax. You got the community talking, you admitted some of it wasn't perfect, but you did a service to the whole community by stirring things up. Now you're giving away your solutions for free to all. You're a god, dude. Thank you.
Wait so the arduino mod is still good right? And it should work with the memory card mod? I unfortunately just don't see every one in my community getting this so id rather just have my control modded so I don't have to get accustomed to modded memory cards and then have to play a pools match in a regular one. At least for now.
I tried doing this and the game freezes when I hit name entry (but the music continues playing). It doesn't seem to have worked, as the memcard is still blank. I just have to restore the mem card then go into vanilla melee name entry right? did I miss a step?
You might have to format your memory card before you load the Hax$ save on to it. That helped fix some issues that I was having with 20XXTE back in the day.
Could we get to a point were l cancels were done automatically, and wavedashs with just one shoulder trigger and an downwards analog input, that would either be super dope or lame , I know how to do both consistently but i can imagine after a good couple years of doing this a lot it'll fuck up my hands
I found that the code still works in Training mode, but you can't calibrate the shield drop on the Training CSS. Anyone know if you calibrate the shield drop notches on Versus mode, does the calibration carry over to Training?
Adding perfect longest wavedash notches most certainly changes how difficult it is to hit perfect longest wavedashes consistently. Which are important for following SDI away on shine or getting to the other side of the opponent for the infinite easier. So it's making the waveshine infinite easier, and therefore buffing fox.
The thing about the perfect angle mod , is that many many people have worked countless hours and put an incredible amount of work and effort on learning to consistently do certain angles, it would be terrible for them if all of a sudden , everyone can do crazy angles everytime without putting in the grind that others had to go through.
The only unhealthy thing about the perfect wavedash are those extended Wobble setups, which I guess get canceled out by the other characters perfect wavedashes hmmm
Also, a non-controller-equalizing mod like this would effectively be a balance update because some characters (fox, samus, ICs) would benefit more than other characters (peach, puff)
Just tried the faster melee build with the hax mod. Dude, fucking thank you! I have 3 controllers: two where shield dropping using the south-east gate doesn't work, and another where only the south-east gate works. Now I can use any of them and my shield drops actually fucking work no matter which gate I use.
Question: If this mod were to be accepted by the community, who (or what) makes this mod official to utilize in tournaments like Evo? SmashBoards? Who is the overseer of the official Melee rules?
There are no official rules and there never should be, It's called free market. The TOs decide their own rules and the players decide if they want to pay to go to said tournament. If the rules are shitty and noone wants to play under them, then this TO will lose money, forcing him to bring out a better service next time, or quit altogether. Having some bullshit comitee with the monopoly of setting rules is a playground ripe for corrupiton and other shit. Doing it via the free market is the only way to make sure that positiv change happens as quickly as possible (and more often than not: as quickly as NEEDED). Just watch Armada's video on Mid-set coaching. He is proposing that the TO's should do whatever they feel like, but he personally won't attend tournys that allow it (same for Tournys that lack doubles). Mind you that this is not an appeal to authority, as this is about Economics and not professional Melee. I merely think that Armada has understood how this stuff works, and included it as an example.
Excellent stuff, my only concern is that setups like these will be brought to tournaments and people will not reset their notch values, leading people to think their already-notched controllers can shield drop when they actually can't since the values have been altered. People will have to be dilligent of keeping track of their shield drop values and port.
