Last night was another devastating, propane explosion. Luckily no serious injuries reported. Take a look at the drone footage. Also another day of grinding away at massive amounts of snow.
Not only do you have to be strapped up while on the roofs, but you also have to worry about buildings blowing up around you. I commend you guys for the constant work you're doing. Enjoy it, it may never be as gnarly again. Thx for allowing us to go along with you this winter.
I grew up in Mammoth. In 1969 the snow pack was just like this. On sunny days like this one people would all be out sitting on their roofs to get some sunshine. There wasn't the snow removal like today. Out in old Mammoth the road was snowed over so the families would get together and caravan on snow mobiles nto town to get groceries at the only grocery store Busters Market. Our school also blew up, propane tanks exploded. We didn't see the dirt till July.
I was there also. Worked at the MM Lodge in the cafeteria, I was 12yo. We came up from Bishop, and the snow was crazy even there. It’s something I’ll never forget, and a big bridge that my grandpa built over Bishop Creek was washed away with the Spring snowmelt. Unbelievable!
I guess I don't understand why people would want to live there. It perplexes me. Well, I guess some can say they don't understand why people would live in Florida and deal with hurricanes. I live in upstate NY and we were well below average for snowfall. I still think we got too much. The older I get, the less I'm a winter person. I'm not that old. Still in my 40s. But I would be fine without snow.
I was staying at Juniper when this happened. The entire hotel shook at 1:30am and it sounded like a bomb went off. The day before you could smell propane from our patio, we reported it twice to the front desk. I guess I should have called the fire dept.
Great vid, you got the snow removal equipment out for next year and learned a lot about chains and snow tires. You will make a fortune this summer on structural repairs. Cheers
What a bunch of hard-working great guys you have there. Hard to see damage but it's nothing like the damage from the tornados they had in the south from the hot air from Florida meeting the cold air coming across. Many lost their lives. Winter is leaving the south and the summer will bring hurricanes. Not looking forward to that. I went through that big earthquake in California back in the day it was not real big but going through a hurricane is much worse. We don't hang around anymore if a big one comes, we get out the credit card and fly north or west. Lots of airports in Florida we have one 5 miles from the house. And also, Amtrak and Greyhound bus are around. And just started high speed rail to Orlando airport from Miami. Keep up the good work a pat on the back to the workers.
Still like some ice planet at the far end of the solar system. But many small victories are the prize for those who finish the marathons. Glad your team is staying safe, working hard, and sleeping sound. What a great example for all of us to follow!
If only they would start using a saw like the Japanese people do and then removing block with the shovel sleds they would shift more quicker ,work smarter ,work easier.
@@alexthemtaandr211weatherfa2 tell that to people who risk there lives and homes being destroyed if they don't work nonstop to save themselves. God wants you to work your ass off and rest after. Rested on the 7th day
Need to give you guys (and other snow removal co.s) a lot of credit. Its amazing the amount of work done to get the heavy stuff off roofs. Have to believe there is going to be a lot or repair work once thaw is underway. Keep up the video work too.👍
AMAZING the amount of snow you had this winter. I'm astounded that you scrape down to the pavement, instead of leaving a snow packed base, that will thaw when the sun and temps rise. More important to find the drains (if you have any) to allow the thaw to drain. Regardless these are extraordinary times for extraordinary men. Nice to hear your equipment is up and running. I'd hate to find out the overall costs of this horrible winter. Why do the propane tanks explode? I am mesmerized by your channel!
Prayers going out to all these hard workers and the management, organization. May you all be safe and surrounded by legions of Angels to help give you strength and grace throughout this process.🙏
Dang; looks like an ordinary U.P. winter... except in _California_ . I suppose one can always be consoled by "we need the water"... but still, that's a mess they are not normally asked to deal with. Great work, everybody!!
Wow. You guys are lucky, more damage wasn't done. The most snow we've had up here was 13 feet. The snow was only up to the roof overhangs. Every dog in the neighborhood was on the roof! Lucky we had an upstairs. We could still crawl out of the top bedroom window. Absolutely amazing! This is snow. Can you imagine, digging out a city, of rock and granite, from the top of a mountain and make temples and homes, underground? They start, just like you guys do. This dig, kinda put it into perspective on just how to even start a project like that.
And I whine if we get 8-12" in a storm! lol Your videos are fascinating. I will be anxious to see what it actually looks like around there without all the white but with beautiful greenery! I have been concerned about all the wildlife...how have the animals been fairing in all of this snow?
That house had a metal roof and it still collapsed. Ouch. And by the look of that snowpack, it will not have melted until it starts to snow again. You might have a glacier there!
Why did the propane tanks explode? While living in Idaho has it's challenges we are probably more prepared to handle such snow volumes as we see it every winter (large amounts of snow). When places like Mammoth and Truckee and other Northern California cities see unusual amounts of snow fall nobody is prepared for that and what it creates it devastating damage. You guys are doing an amazing job. Good luck guys and hope everyone stays safe including those owners whose property has been affected by it all. Oh and by the way I've personally have had to hand shovel and tractor plow literally tons of snow so I feel for your guys backs, arms and shoulders.
Oh my, I had no idea this was going on in the world. And in the same country I live in. Sorry, but I don't get out much. I like snow, but this would be too much for me. Thanks for this video. I live in TX, where I don't get to see snow very often, and it's usually just a few flakes. That is such a beautiful place.
I don’t think anybody can really imagine what you folks have had to deal with up there this winter, you need to show us when you dig out that other loader with a blower, it’s just crazy that there’s some giant machine back in there and you can’t even tell, just endless work for something that will be gone well maybe not with so much up there it may never leave You guys are something else though thanks for sharing so much
If I was there, working for you, what I would offer up is this. It pertains to the pick up that the loader got into the back of the bed really good. I would hook a chain to the back of the pick up and jerk it out because you obviously can’t do any more damage to it. It’s already been done. You can hook it to the axle underneath and just pull it straight out. That’s what needed to be done. And the same thing with the trailer if it’s up to that pick up, you can just go to the front axle on that truck and just pull it straight out and you’d be surprised how easy that snow will give. And if the trailer is not hooked to the truck? So much the better. Pull the truck out, then go to the front of the trailer and just pull it straight out.
If this becomes the new norm and also continually gets more extreme, at what point would it not even be sustainable with the max resources you already have?
I wondered the same? Would that cause the pressure regulator to fail and possibly cause a fitting/joint to fail? Based on the footage it looks like gas filled a good portion of the house.
You guys need to put those flags on the corners of your trucks before you park them...like bicyclists use on country roads to be seen on the hills. I know that they would have to be like 15 feet tall, but at least you can then see where they are...before you chew them up with the blowers.
In the UP OF MICHIGAN, FLAGS on vehicles are common. The county lines roads with cut saplings to mark road edges. All traffic signs are raised to highest levels & extentions added to aid in navigation.
You still need ,even today, people with skills ,that shovel will fit anybody's hand ,hard work ,man that's a lot of snow, hard working people and you have to get it done awesome
I fail to understand anyone using propane tanks to heat homes in a place like Mammoth Lakes. Casa Diablo geothermal plant is just outside of town and I know damn well that plant could generate enough electricity to heat every unit in Mammoth Lakes. I do not understand. Someone educate me. How expensive could it be to pipe electricity to the town from a geothermal plant that is just a few miles away? It's pretty obvious Mammoth Mountain is getting their electricity from there; why not housing units? Does not make sense to me to be using propane in an alpine environment. Dangerous as hell.
A 900 sq ft ranch style house in New Hampshire with 1 resident had 442.00 electric bill in Jan a bit less in Feb so over 400 fir electric. House heats w propane. I imagine in cal is more
@@dylan8285...grew up in Michigan's Upper peninsula where heavy snows & blizzards are very common every winter. Years ago homes were built tall & narrow. Second floors had doors & windows covered with plywood to resist pressure. Metal roofs aid some what with snow removal. I've seen snow blowers used on roofs before. You do what you can.
a trucker convoy .!!!!!!!!! of trucks ..... i used drive 18 wheels !!!!! i still appreciate there work as well . cause if they ever stop . work . ALOT OF THING WILL GRIND TO STOP.!!!
I Know That Propane Explosion Sounded Like A “Bomb” Went Off,Can’t Imagine How The People In The Nearby House Felt😮Thanks For Drone Footage Of That,Hate That Some Snow There “Never” Made It Across To Our Southern States,We Got “Nothing” This Winter😢Hats Off To These Guys Shoveling,The Aches & Pains They Must Have,Bless Them,Never Seen So Much Snow In My Life,But It’s Beautiful At The Same Time,Especially When It’s Falling NC USA❤
Is there some nexus between the snow load, and the explosion? Are Mammoth homes exploding at a greater rate than elsewhere? Fair question given the video title!
Get a sheet of plastic roll. 10mil or better. Anchor it to ice with stakes every couple feet. Then toss shovels of snow on sheet and let gravity take it off the edge of the roof. Stop shoveling twice on a roof!
OMG!!! I know that the forecasters are predicting the end of major snowstorms but I fear that the worst my be to come. All that snow is going to end up as water which is going to end up in places that will be very inconvenient for many people. God bless and good luck.
Not sure where you are. Have y'all ever seen gotten that much snow before. When that all melted I assume the lake's and rivers will be overflowing. Lordy so much snow. I am in awe
@@noraleestone2859 My experience with living in Mammoth was that due to its small-town size and being (relatively isolated),, slightly exacerbated this issue. That being said, I still LOVE Mammoth!
@@kenconley9642 I've lived in only small towns since 1992. It's a very common behaviour. And, the smaller the group gets, the worse the gossiping gets! 🤨🙄😒😝
With all the snow storms this year, I’m surprised you don’t have more damage at the property’s. It will be a much needed break and some rest after all the hard work the guys have been doing. This season. What does Sadie do when there is no more snow to roll in?
I’m curious as to why the propane tanks explode… is it simply too much pressure from the weight of the snow? Or is there a malfunction that has to occur? I’m glad no one was killed! 🙏
Looking at the long range models, there will be some snow on the 4th and again around the 18th. Both should be under a foot. In between, the thaw should be getting under way.
First heat wave of the year is showing up in the long range forecast. Temperatures are expected to reach the low 80's in the central valley and probably 55 to 60 in Mammoth Lakes. Looks like the big meltdown is about to start. Many snow sensors are reporting 5 to 10 inches more snow water content then the previous all time record so there could be some flooding issues. The heat wave isn't expected to last that long only a few days and temp will be back down into the 40s and there likely will be at least one or two more snostorms before summer but I think the snow depth has peaked and its going to melt from here on out. there is so much snow that I don't think people will see their yards unti May or June and high country trails will be covered until July or August. The state could fill all their resviors with this big runoff and I hope they do because California has had alot of dry years recently. The runoff might be too much for some of these southern California resivors and they might have to allow several weeks of minor flooding to avoid a major catastrophe.
You should have marked your equipment in the lot better. Like , you got what, 60’ of snow this season so far? Come on, you gotta be ready man......😂 love the videos. Spring is coming!!
Well that's my cue to go clear some snow off the propane shed... We're a bit South of y'all and have been under a boil water advisory for the last few days. If they can't find the broken main under all of this snow we'll probably run dry in the next week. On the bright side, that was the last utility on our bingo card! Treating ourselves to a steak dinner because at this point we've earned it.
Oh my gosh my Belgian Malinous is shedding horribly!! Brushing her every night. So what’s going to happen with all these homes once the snow starts to really melt? Will they all get flooded? Oh no feel so sorry for this Zack guy, his poor truck ☹️
