What an absolute beast, one of the best shaped commodores of that period. I have a matching VS Acclaim in Herron white and on steelies but it will never live up to the VN Commodore. Love that ex cop look and the LS swap would be perfect. Definitely snatched up a beauty mate! Great job.
Lovin the channel mate you just got another sub! Keen to see the re-tune results I just got mine tuned has crow 236/242 fresh motor stock bottom end t56 and made 250rwk was slightly disappointed but as you say its only a number.
Fucking awesome video bro, love the content, the overall run down on the car man! Would love to see where this thing goes. Subscribed, liked and notification gang 🤙
I've got castle hill headers tri y on my ls1 vs. The flanges at the end of the extractors even sit pretty low with 2" lowered king springs. Yours look like 4 into 1 which is a big collector to fit under there...
That's a nice VN mate. I'd say 230-260rwkw is pretty standard for an LS1 with cam from what I know so that's ok. Looks like an old beast is still alive, good to see.
my ecu is under the carpet flush up on the firewall (under glovebox, made a little bracket) fits perfect wouldnt even know its there. mint score by the way. clean vn's are a rarity.
Nice start mate! I'd say power and rpm seems pretty on point for a ls1, the cam and a big stall and auto. Dyno is just a tuning tool anyway, Sounds tough!
I've got a vg ute with a tuff mounts conversion kit and the exhaust clearance is about the same rubs on the steering rack and ground clearance is minimal ps nice buy 👌👌
Fit the ECU in the glove box, and screw the OB2 plug in there two. You only need to holesaw a smallish hole for the wiring, and use Velcro to secure the ECU, makes removing it very easy.
John Young thanks John, has no a/c related parts in it apart from condenser which is now gone, had no interest in spending hundreds of dollars getting an a/c system into it
Is there a real power diffence in stock form between a Holden 355 used in some of the 215kw versions VN-VS Commodores and a LS1 as they are both 2 valve pushrod 5,7Liter engines with good flowing heads?
I have a stock as a rock Holden Vr V6 except the engine has some spicy mods but I never flog it, I don't speed, I don't do burnouts nothing stupid. I drive it to work and may or may not have installed a 42 inch lightbar on the roof... spent $5000 in repairs and yes I know thats more than the car is worth but it's been in the family for over 10 years and I plan to keep it forever.
Fully understand that "void" mentality aye, i have a vn exec v8 and a vn ss in white. ive driven nothing but 2 litres and diesels since selling the vn's and cant help but feel like i need another V8.
That power figure is more like 243 rear wheel kilowatts, the dyno sheet for my VY SS Commodore when I first got it was its power at the wheels. Yes, whoever did the swap may have rebuilt the engine with just new piston rings, bearings, etc because you can only bore them out by 0.010" oversized, after that,it needs a resleeve. Mine has just clocked over to 358,000 kilometres, it's stock but it has been tuned & it has had a full new aftermarket exhaust system bolted onto it & it's been tuned again,it doesn't use oil & I run Nulon 10W40 full synthetic oil in it !
All conversion 4 into 1 headers are dreadful for ground clearance. Pacemakers are the best for actually fitting without modification although depending on which mounts. I used tuff mounts as rod shop are still hit and miss. Looks like you need to fit a grommet on the loom coming through the firewall. If you staying n/a I would recommend modifying the radiator mounts and using a vcm alloy otr. Not really hard but will involve tilting back a little for clearance.
You no you got some power when you crack the body in the boot were the shocks bolt into the boot and when you open the door the top pillar on body is starting to crack.
@@MindieJ awesome, it was cool to see what a real clean VN looks like! I had a white VN with the same look but it was a 5l with a carby and cam, no where as clean though
Hi Min, i'm a noob to V8's, wanting to build an engine, from scratch or buy a car similar. Where do I start, build from scratch or buy and rebuild? Im not sure where to look for parts etc? Chev engine or Aussie V8? Thanks Did you find this car on carsales? Or a FB group?
@@MindieJ Thanks for the reply mate. Can you recommend a decent website or FB page I can join for these kind of modified commodores? I had a 308 stroker to 355 in mind for a build. Seems expensive.
Aye, nice car I have the same but bt1 5.0. Would like to see how you go with the runs in the paint. So glad you are ditching the hsv interior. It would look mint if you lose the chrome trim and Venetians too, just my opinion. Love the channel mate keeps getting better. It it engineered with the LS?
Yours is white aswel? Runs should be very easy to sand out the hardest thing will be getting a buff in there, yep venetians are getting painted black ASAP and no not engineered unfortunately
Mindiej93 yeah same colour my cars identical but a bit more original. I swapped out the ss interior it came with for the original stuff even got the correct door cards with pockets. Check your floor for cracks and sagging when you take out the seats.
Nothing wrong with 4l60e. I’ve gone 10.3 with mine and others in Melbourne run 9s with them. Biggest issue is people get them built at aldi and expect them to hold power
Very nice. Personally i would stick with the classic old look of dads white Louvre's they give it a cool retro look. The wheels also are now back in fashion and look great -welds?.....common. She has a beautiful classic rare look and that makes it special 👍
U can buy the factory style holden 5.0 rear garnish badge but instead it says 5.7, from “stick this stickers” have a look, cool badges and stuff, also the interior light u can buy genuine new from ford on eBay and instead of white lense it’s clear so put an LED in it and it’s soooo much better
Yeah had a couple of vns and now a mates got an old one of mine with an ls1 but it’s bone stock with like 220000 ks and can’t even spin the wheels, can strongly recommend the ford interior light swap makes it so much better, I think they’re out of a ba and bf falcon, same part number just go to super cheap and buy a $5 led light that pushes straight in
Hey mate mouldings have screws. I have a VN Calais can show you if you get stuck. Also your badge...5.0 litre one you want is for the 304 not the LS. Tuning speak to John Faraone. He is a genius and will sort your issues. Wont matter if your not in Western Australia etc as he can assist remote tuning.
@@MindieJ yeah mate you need to remove the mouldings from the door and work back to the rear windows. You on Facebook? I can add you show you my cars etc if that helps currently have vn stripped
@@MindieJ just a few minor changes such as-crow cam pacemaker headers + 2.5 inch twin exhausts OTR cold air intake mafless tune 1.8 roller rockers 915/918 valve springs, not a big fan of the air pod filter when I had 1 on my SS it wouldn't do a burnout
Would love to buy your HSV seats but will clash with the red interior, im surprised its not already close to 300kw ir more maybe OTRCAI mafless tune and twin exhausts
Shaun Hinch it’s definitely going back on the dyno once this lockdown is over as I’ve been told that the previous tuner isn’t the best with LS’s, HSV seats are already gone haha that’s explained in this weeks video
Hi 👋 it’s mad max if you won’t van sets go and have a look at pic a parts that have a lot of vans there from mad max 👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎👌👌👌🤙🤙the car is in very good kondishinps nice motor in the car you can roll them
johan 1221 I’d have to disagree I’ve seen multiple really decent VN 5L’s for sale in the fast few weeks for around the 1Ok mark, execs, calais, berlinas you name it
@@MindieJ would it be worth buying a v6 vn for 2K and spending 8K+ to bring it up to v8 spec? If you gonna rebuild the engine and put in a new trans anyways then would it matter if u got a v6?
I know it’s a bit late. But castlemaine conversion kit are crap. I changed to tuff mounts for that exact reason. I have both vn & vl with ls conversions. Tuff mounts much better fitments.
If peak power is at 6800 it will rev past that. You said it has cam and springs etc so why would it not rev to there? One way to find out lol now you have to show us lol
You really really really really need to get it properly tuned after previous owner my vt SS ls1 which isn't even the good ls1 with 241 heads did 240kw and it only has an intake manifold and injectors and big throttle body done with a half decent exhaust
@@MindieJ I got a VP Calais and have to do the header nods, Castlemaine rodshop even says in their Disclaimer when purchasing that the kits aren't made to fit perfectly, they're made to be universal through a few models, basically 'If you're capable of doing the swap, a couple cuts and chops and welds for an hour would work, You don't nessessarily have to deal with it, they just need to be kinked and redone, but only if you're good behind the welder and grinder through.
Quincy May I suppose if you’re into interior that’s the complete wrong colour from a completely different car and doesn’t even fit in the car properly that’s your prerogative 🤷🏼♂️
@@MindieJ yeah guess so, I just like the seats. colour wave might be off but that's easy. like I said im not a Ford/Holden fan, I don't hate em, i just don't know much about them or what would be period correct or factroy etc.
