Great to see a post from you, even better to learn that your health is improved. At my age I find that I never end up feeling as good as I did before I got sick. Watching the average farmer dealing with all the obstacles of today, pricing, supply availability, break downs etc but still making plans to go another year gives me hope for our nation, lifestyle and even myself. I know it takes a lot of time to make quality videos but it sure is appreciated.

Coming from Illinois here: I would say to you as your land potentially shrinks, Hay is about to be more profitable than row crop - The hay prices in the south are absurd, averaging around $15-$25 per SQUARE BALE any given year. "Well Travis what about the cost to get it there" - still higher margins than selling close to home, and you sell it faster - I do. As your land shrinks, growing crops that yield a higher return but are NOT Subsidized may be the way to go. Wheat (Not sure in PA), Barley, Sorgum, Pumpkins, etc. Who has the mineral rights to the land? Are you aware that if they are unclaimed even though you don't own the land you can own the mineral rights? It varies state to state - but there might be something there for you to help fund operations at the farm. And lastly I'm not sure if you pay up front for your leasing, but there might be an opportunity to get the land for free and do a profit split to keep the landlord hooked with you, and if he likes the agreement/payouts, he can leverage the current equity he has in current land, to increase the size and scale of the farm. he wants to make more money, you want to keep farming. Yes you'll give away a bit of profits, but that's short term, on the flip side you're also losing profits by losing land. I don't know an enormous amount about farming, but I do know economics, leverage, and commodities - and Cash Dollars always talk. Especially effective when nobody wants to listen.

My issue will always be time, working 50 hours a week at a day job, I did make hay while working a job, it was awful, and it took time away from the row crops. I do agree with you though, thanks 👍🏻

I agree with the idea of input never going back down all the way, it's hard to believe how high everything has gone, we own and operate 2 tri axel dump trucks along with the farm and the $5.30+ fuel has really hurt and not to mention everything else has gone out of sight, but like I told my dad if we can just survive till things calm down we will do better than before. Wish you and your family the best this year and hopefully we can maker through.

I picked a hell of a time to start farming lol. In my case though I want to do meat chickens, layers and grass fed beef so really I need grass, chicken feed and infrastructure. Keeping my 1066 and 756 full of diesel for hay making is gonna be interesting though.

Glad you're feeling better and that you posted something. I miss your channel. Yes, inputs are crazy and in my end of the state, prices and basis are good. I have all my inputs bought and paid for, and many are already at the farm. Just felt better doing it that way. My herbicides, I bought in the fall, anticipating the shortages and prices this spring. Same with fuel, etc. More worried about next year, with so many fertilizer components coming from Russia, we might be in real trouble.

did you always have concrete in that shop? last time i was here that shopped seemed a lot darker? yeah 2009 was tough, i lived out of state for work, sucked... yeah dont see this ending well, greed in farming of stomping on each other for more land at crazy high levels, when this goes inverted like in the past where commodity price drops below cost of production then what is going to happen?

I’m in central Ga and I priced fertilizer today for our cow/hay operation and granular is 1200/ton. liquid is 440/ton. potash 950/ton. lime is 60/ton and with the high prices everybody using chicken litter now you can’t find any litter anywhere. And with all the prices going up cow/calf sale prices are falling. I remember 08 well but fuel got hard to find but fertilizer didn’t jump like it did this time.

They were selling chicken litter at auctions here and was bringing pretty good money. Now with the bird flu getting bad, I don’t think that’s the case anymore

Give me your thoughts on that Case/IH 685 you have. I'm considering one just like it. I have a small hay farm I run. Square bales only. About 20 acres of fields with a couple hills. I have an Farmall 544 narrow front, gas tractor now. It does good but would like a diesel.. Enjoy your videos thanks.

I was watching some news, I believe it was from the BBC that Ireland was rethinking it’s neutrality stance and considering joining NATO? I wasn’t sure if this was true or not? What’s the feeling there with the general public? (Sorry not really an Ag related question, but then I don’t know too many people from Ireland)

@@PAFarms There's rumblings about it alright ....don't think it'll happen though. Don't think we could afford it, we don't spend very much on our army and covid has cost us an awful lot and inflation is going up....looks like a recession is on the way and just like many people our government would like to do the right thing but just can't afford it right now.

Luckily I bought early enough on inputs for this year. Next year's inputs who knows where it will be priced. Roundup when I bought was basically 4 times higher. The main thing is I have it. The 2010 crop was the most expensive crop I have ever planted. Land values have gone way up and rents followed. I have always said farmers bid the profit out of farming and its really happening again and you definitely see it in the used equipment market, also. Give a farmer a $1 and they will spend 3.😂

Don't worry, Trudeau's next tax rise on fuel kicks in next month, people should be happy with the prices since they did vote him in.
@PAFarms
@PAFarms 2 года назад
I always think about the Canadian farmers when I see Trudeau speak. I think it would do him some good to visit rural areas and get his hands dirty. It’s the same in the states, politicians running adds with cows in the background to prove they are down to earth. Then they find out chocolate milk doesn’t come from brown cows…

@@PAFarms When he introduced carbon tax the ag industry appealed to have at least the natural gas/propane for dryers be made exempt to no avail. Then to add insult to injury he said we shouldn't pass on the cost and just absorb it....
