Antique Rare Ornate Adze - Restoration
In this video I am restoring an Antique Rare Adze. I was very impressed by its design. The design of this Adze is very different. Surely you have not seen such a design before.
I got this Adze a long time ago. Now I thought it was time to restore it. I started this project by removing the mud from the Adze. After quickly removing the hardened dirt, I applied a 12 volt current to remove all the rust. After cleaning, the adze was found to have very deep hammer marks. Removed minor hammer marks on Adze with a file. Some of the hammer marks were too deep so they were filled with the help of weld. Sanded with a 120 grit grinder to clean up the file marks on the Adze. After that I have started hand sanding in which I sanded with 220 grit, 320 grit, 400 grit and 100 grit. Then buffed the Adze.
I used acacia wood to make the handle of the adze. This wood is very hard and strong. I have designed something on the handle. And then I started hand sanding the wood. 120 grit 220 grit 320 grit 400 grit hand sanding. Used Lacquer to polish the handle.
I really enjoyed working on this project though.
Work I do in the video and what I use . If you want to ask any question, please ask in the comment section. I read everyone's comments and try to answer.

Restoring an item should mean making it look again much like the original, while respecting its history of use. Making it more glitzy kind of misses the point, in my opinion.

Yes way overthinking it in fact I hate this opinion! You either restore a tool the right way or don’t restore it at all. Leaving pitting and not mirror polishing it is a garbage half way job also burning the handle and making unnecessary cuts in the metal is stupid too. And filler and bluing are also awful too!

That's very nice but how did they cast those two pieces of steel together? Shouldn't it be forged by a blacksmith, the casting line where they did it was the first thing being filed off.

This tool is not made by joint two pieces of metal. It is a one-piece tool that must have been made from a metal casting.

Wouldn't call this a restoration given all the original hammer marks were removed and some reprofiling done. More like creating a new adze using material from an old one. It lost any link to its history. Beautiful result, though.

Well, while the video is relaxing and fun to watch, the original geometry and lack of pitting sure look like this was just covered in mud, and not very long ago. The lines seem too sharp and the surfaces too smooth for something that has spent any significant time underground. However, *somebody* beat the hell out of it with a hammer for sure. Probably while it was hot, from the look of them. Nice video, though. @@AyazRestoration
