This weekend is the annual Sunshine City Antique Show in Saint Petersburg, Florida, and I’m picking through my "Vintage Modern St. Pete" mall space to pack for it! How do I decide what to leave, and what to take, when both places will be so busy?
This episode gives you a teaser look at St. Petersburg, Florida’s antique district, and some of the great mid-century pieces at the über cool Vintage Modern St. Pete antique mall. But mostly, it’s a fun review of the wide variety of things I sell in my space there, with conversation about how a dealer decides what goes to a show, what goes online to sell and what stays in the retail space.
On the way to my booth, we encounter Brutalism on one side, and a shiny happy Raymond Loewy designer set on the other side. We walk through an ocean of vintage fashion to reach my showcase, filled with Native American baskets and a rare Pre-Columbian jaguar effigy vessel.
My space is filled with art, vintage collectibles, decor and furniture, but some of these things don’t look like the other! I cull out the traditional and Victorian pieces to take to the show, while explaining why I’m leaving the amazing clock, the fab lucite lamp and the kidney-shaped table for the mall to sell. At the end, I review what I’m taking to the antique show and why.
I hope my review of my favorite Florida modernist mall space helps you learn more about antique and vintage items, and share my encounters with them in the real world. I love sharing our passion and this community, and hope we will all help each other with our antique education.
Here’s some more of what I find:
