My husband has an injured brain from AUD. No one knows how to help him and when I tried to get him into speech therapy, the therapist only wanted to help us figure out how to plan for his decline. He has a full time job that doesn't require a lot of thinking so getting to appointments even if we found someone to help in our rural community is difficult. He has a hard time finding words and getting them out. I can tell he understands what people are saying, it's just hard for him to communicate and he thinks more slowly. We just sat down today to try this exercise and after watching and participating twice he is speaking more loudly and more clearly. Thank you for this channel. I think it is going to change our lives.😊
Oh Nicole, I am so sorry you are both dealing with this, and your husband is so lucky to have you as an advocate. I can't thank you enough for your kind words and I really, really hope this and the other exercises will be a big help to him! Your comment really made my day!
Thanks for this. My mom just had a stroke and has left side immobility. She can finds words but her speech is slurred due to left side paralysis. She also cannot walk so your choice of words here seem like they might be cruel at this point in her recovery. I will substitute: Talk and talk. To be strong. Talk and talk. To be strong. We'll see how that goes.
I am glad you commented. With practice and some simple daily exercises, her speech could get much, much clearer over a bit of time 👍. When we talk about taking a walk in my classes, we know there are many participants who might be going out with a walker or in their wheelchairs. We encourage people to get out and be as acitve as makes sense while getting some fresh air and a change of scenery. I will pay closer attnetion to how I explain this and the words I choose next time 👍. Wishing your mom great improvements as she recovers 🙏.
I thought it could never happen to me but I got COVID I suffered 3 strokes and I have aphasia. It's been difficult and challenging. thank you so much for being there for us it makes me feel like you care a lot about us. 🙂
Your comment really means a lot to me 🧡. I definitely do care a lot about you and what you are dealing with 🧡 . I am so glad it shows + I hope you are getting enough help and support 🤞 . Any video requests, let me know!
Hi Kimber'ly 🧡 I hear that a lot about therapy and insurance 😢. I have a class you may like to try. You can email me for info: beyondhighc@gmail.com -also, tapping your leg or chest or a table will work well in place of clapping 🧡
Samina! Single words in rhythm can help get voice started again in my experience - we spoke over email? I'll send you a personal video if you let me know what words to start with! beyondhighc@gmail.com - my favorite video for swallowing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v5rYiUlXL3Y.html
Do you have mobility challenges? It is your left side that is affected? There is a great RU-vid channel that has things that might be very helpful to you- it is called Rehab HQ.
