Thanks for the video, it was so helpful! One additional question from me...for the Book Extras at the beginning of the book, did you ever see what all of that entailed on the website? We're currently in a review heavy curriculum, which is great...sort of. My son can't seem to focus long enough to get it all done, which is why we're considering other options. I was wondering if the Book Extras had more review, should more reinforcement be needed. Thanks again!
Have you supplemented at all for your daughter? Was she able to master her math facts using just this program? Every level is so pretty. I wonder if there is enough practice as the concepts get more difficult!
Math facts will always just take time and review, whether with games, apps, songs, or whatever other methods work for your child. But I do feel this program is comprehensive and complete with review and practice built into every lesson.
I'm having trouble with placement. Would you say there is ample multiplication and division review in Level 4? I loved the multiplication Battleship game you referenced in Level 3 and I think a brief brush through would be handy to have without having to start exclusively in Level 3. Level 4 seems to be the better fit. Any thoughts?
One idea might be to purchase just the teachers guide for level 3. It would have all the games and teaching tips to review multiplication and division before jumping into level 4. Otherwise this is an excellent question for Apologia customer service. Or check out the author (Kathryn Gomes) on social media. She is great at answering questions!
I know the author currently has up through level 6 in the works. Then she will go back and release a kindergarten level. Not sure yet if Apologia plans to go higher. I sure hope they do!
@@abbykhomeschool5398 I hope so too!!! I just began level 2 and 4 with my kids - I'm so THANKFUL I found this program!! Math has been a tough one for us to land on - but we finally found the one!
How did your year with level 4 go with your child? Did you feel there was enough practice of concepts as well as review of those new concepts throughout the year or did you need to supplement?
Everything went great! We didn’t feel the need to supplement with anything else (other than a math facts app that she does when she’s waiting on me). It has been a consistently comprehensive program.
I’d say 20 minutes would be a nice average. Sometimes a little more at this level. The short and sweet lessons are one of the things I love most about this program. My middle girl does not have the attention span for more, lol.
Yes, although I’m sure you could reuse the activity sheets from the teachers book if you were able to save the pieces and maybe laminate them and use dry erase markers for writing. Thankfully though they are reasonably priced, as far as math curriculums go. The whole set is not much more than just the student set (the consumables) from Math U See that we were using before.
I haven’t personally used Singapore, so I can’t compare it to that method specifically. But it does use a variety of methods with lots of hands on activities to really ensure the student understands the why behind the math.
