the list of stupid things he had to do in order for this to happen boggles the mind. start with "standing there in space" watching the shuttle go. shift to LET'S GRAB THE VERY EDGE OF THE WING BECAUSE THAT COULDN'T POSSIBLY CAUSE THE GODDAMN WING TO TEAR OFF ...and yet at the end everybody's cheering, including me.
@@j.j.1517 I know what you mean JJ I want a Superman i can believe in again, I love the Avengers but the world needs The Man of Steel again. We need another Christopher Reeves.
You know for me this was always my favorite scene of the movie when all of those people were cheering for Superman, in a way that the greatest superhero and the greatest champion in the world is back for another chance.
Tht is 10000% percent good sir even though you are months ago they talked mad shit about poor brandon when he first donned the cape now years later when he was confirmed to return as the man of steel everybody out of nowhere loves him just because it was HUGE crossover event lol🤷♂️
Brandon Routh caught all the the right mannerisms of Reeves while still infusing his own touches. His performance was under appreciated. Me held his own and was far much better than Cavill...they should have stuck with him...I love this movie...
@@splashnskillz37 each to their own but I have to disagree. Henry is a great guy but he doesn’t have the corny line about flight safety and for some reason they don’t use the classic superman music in his movies. Both actors where given bad scripts to work with. I prefer Brandon though.
No matter if this movie wasn't too good (Although i liked it). That part at 0:17 just look at Brandon with his head up wearing that suit with pride and holding the torch like Christopher Reeve did before him. Goosebumps
The reason you like this scene is because of the John Williams theme. John Williams, as far as I'm concerned, is on par with composers like Mozart. He wrote the soundtrack to every major movie I've seen in my life. I was born the same year the first Superman movie was made and the dude is STILL scoring films!
Lois had some 'splainin' to do. She knows he's not going to like that article she's written about him no longer being needed. He was surprised to find out Lois was a mommy, which he hadn't anticipated when he left. Had he known, he may have waited to leave, if ever. Richard isn't a dummy, either. He's immediately suspicious after Kal-el returns, whether her "night with Superman" was more than an interview, given Jason's age.
Cheers and applause with the classic John Williams score pumping in the background after a huge rescue...never a better way to reintroduce a great hero.
This is one of my favourite parts of the movie. After the thrill of watching him save the plane, I love that they took the time out to show how people react to Superman, how beloved he is to the people. And it's not just wasted screen time - establishing that people care about him now is what makes you feel it when he (all but) sacrifices himself for them at the end of the movie. Contrast that with the new Supes v Batman, where we get a montage of Superman saving people whilst he looks miserable, as if it's some great chore, and voiceovers wonder whether his saving people is a good thing or not - all whilst mournful music plays.
Graham Kennedy It's how come my girlfriend loves Superman from the Supergirl tv series. Always upbeat and not broading like in BvS. Of course, Christopher Reeve will always be our Superman, and this film carries that legacy. I like to think that 3 and 4 take place in a separate universe from Returns, and the Donner and Lester cuts of 2 take place in either universe.
Agreed. Cavill seems to think that Superman should be all broody and dark with bits of over-drama and he almost portrays Clark Kent the same way. But apparently he’s left the role now anyway soooo... I really liked this movie and Routh’s take on the character and the complexities of it. I don’t watch Supergirl but I heard that Tyler Hoechlin does a great job as Superman there too.
I agree Superman is a beacon for hope, while it would make for great storylines for some people to be afraid of him therefore they use that feat to discredit him but they should've never had a film that displayed so much hate for him. That's where Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman failed in regard to characterization of Superman.
@@Omega1867 from what ive heard Cavill prefers the lighter take on Superman. Its Zack snyder who should be to blame for the utterly joyless Superman we suffered in BvS.
This may not be a great Superman film, but neither is it awful. Visually however, its exceptional. The costumes, set design, kind of an art deco look to it, I like that stuff.
This is a visually bad movie. Not only do a bunch of the effects suck, the movie is just so washed out and desaturated. But not in a cinematic way like Zack Snyder movies. Just in a grainy and dull way.
Normally I hate cheering/clapping scenes in movies, but I grinned from ear to ear when I saw this scene in the cinema. It took me back to my childhood. I remember turning to my best friend and he had the same huge grin. We did the same in the docks scene when we watched Batman Begins.
I have been searching for this scene *since ages* . Cannot even recall how much i longed to see these cheers. one day I hope I be as great of a person and get cheers like the godly man of steel..
This is the best Superman after Christopher Reeve. Also the music, the Superman Theme. Why they want to destroy, now a days, the beauty in Superman story?
Hands down! This is my all-time favortie part of the movie, where Superman stands there on the plane, everyone clapping & cheering, shouting, "SUPERMAN"! Everybody is now bursting in happiness as to say to him, "Welcome Back, Superman! We missed U"!
Not every portrayal has to be a Christopher Reeves portrayal. Just like how there isn’t just one Superman portrayal in the comics. There are different iterations and portrayals of Superman in the comics. Lol For Cavill’s Superman, there was supposed to be an arc for his Superman to become the full Superman that we know. Cavill’s Superman is basically the new 52 Supes while Routh’s Supes is the classic Reeves Superman. I personally like both.
@@jinlee756 Cavill could have been the best Superman ever. There sooo many good stories about Superman nowadays. Unfortunately those stories are meaningless in the hands of WB
Perry White sounds like a proud father whose son came home from the war. "This goes for everyone! The story isn't the blackout! It's Superman!" Polar opposite of Jonah Jameson who hates Spiderman.
Batman Begins and Superman Returns should’ve started the DC Cinematic Universe. Warner Brothers made a mistake not combining the two worlds together. Both movies were one year apart from each other. Both movies were fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with fans and critics. Both movies looked and felt like they could’ve been in the same universe. Both movies brought the two most popular superheroes back on the big screen after a long hiatus. Superman Returns referenced Gotham City. Not to mention, it grossed more money at the box office than Batman Begins whose sequels went on to hit the one billion dollar mark. I Am Legend teased a crossover between them for May 2010. The billboard in Times Square had Bale’s Batman logo and Routh’s Superman logo merged together.
They were *supposed* to, but Superman Returns underperformed at US box offices. Why, I do not understand, it was well reviewed, and followed on the heels of Batman Begins, which people were *HUGELY* skeptical of (the previous Batman film being Batman & Robin), but was a hit with audiences and critics alike.
...but when they (WB) said they'd never meet, the audience felt burned. (BOO!) And instead of seeing a World's Finest movie on the screen, they got a crappy joke inside an I Am Legend scene. - Iron Man
The theme of the first minute of this post is a universal one, I think--a man rediscovering what he was meant to be. This is something each of us wants to know--would that we could each be so lucky as to actually discover it.
People don't get how good this movie is. It's a continuation of the Christopher Reeve series. It had action, it had him saving people, an emotional plot to it. Imagine if he were awarded a sequel, it could have turned out to be a great series. Seeing him in the crossover as this role was amazing. I hope something more comes off this.
it's in my top 5 for sure, after the almighty struggle that went on high above the clouds for it to end so gracefully in front of a sell out crowd was the icing on the cake in a incredible scene, during the ovation you couldn't help think "You are the man"
This is the perfect introduction to Superman. Applause, cheering, kids looking up to him, the Daily Planet discussing story ideas. Synder ruined everything.
No, Synder ruined nothing. Superman Returns and Man of Steel operated on completely different circumstances. This movie had a firmly established Superman returning after a period of absence, so naturally after pulling a spectacular rescue like that after a 5 year absence, naturally the people would be happy to see him again. Man of Steel had a Superman beginning his career, people didn't know what to make of him. Plus, it didn't help that Earth's first real introduction to visitors from Krypton wanted to destroy humanity and remold the Earth into New Krypton, so naturally they had to approach Superman with scepticism on whether or not he stands with humanity. In the end he chose Earth over Krypton and earned his reputation as Earth's greatest protector...but not without further controversy and challenges to come. Both of these movies have Superman operating under completely different circumstances and should not be so unfairly compared.
@@johnstavropoulos7049 I get Synder's approach. But we never got the awe-struck moment with his Superman. BvS didn't do it. JL was a nightmare. And even just going by the fact that Returns is an actual return v/s MoS being an introduction, he never had a 'save the day' moment. It is not the applause specifically when I watch this scene in Returns, I saw a safe Metropolis with Superman in it. MoS leaves the 'hope' aspect, right at the very end - in front of the military personnel instead of citizens of Metropolis. Synder had a great vision but executed it poorly. Whether it is WB's interference or him just being a bad storyteller (look at his other movies - he has great visuals no doubt) but Superman's death in BvS had NO impact on me, because he did not have an arc. So MoS was off to a bad start to a Superman series/trilogy regardless. So as a standalone movie or an 'introduction', MoS accomplishes nothing for Superman apart from building a broken (initial) cinematic universe.
@@mayanksharma2120 I understand how you feel. I loved Man of Steel, but I always felt like there was something missing, the movie felt incomplete, like there were scenes that should have been included, but got cut for some reason. Since we are getting the Synder Cut of Justice League, how about an extended cut of Man of Steel next? Man of Steel had tons of "save the day" moments, but I think the reason some people think that the movie didn't have any is that there was no significant rescue sequence* (like the helicopter scene in the first movie or the airplane scene in Returns) the rescues happened so fast you didn't see them, and that it was trying to make up for the serious lack of supervillain fights in the previous films. Synder Superman actually has an arc which was made in the form of a question. In Man of Steel it was: will Superman stand with humanity? In BvS it was: will humanity stand with Superman? Great ideas that could have done better, but also could have done worse. They should just have been a bit clearer. I think that before BvS we should have gotten a proper Man of Steel 2, Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie, BvS, and then saved Death of Superman as it's own separate movie. Personally I was just happy to see it play out on film and the fact we finally got a Superman villain other than Luthor and Zod in the movies. Just my opinion. * You could count the oil rig rescue scene, which Superman accomplishes without a shirt, much less his super suit.
Andrea Santoro but with Batman v Supermans Superman "killed off", and everyone seeing him as a hero and burying him, when he returns, it's the best shot they'll have to recreate a scene like this
Andrea Santoro true he is timeless. but he is portrayed as more realistic and "how to would be like between humans " *socially and politically and every other way*
don fan yeah I get it. Infact overall I liked MoS, except for the finale, not coherent in my opinion with the idea of a realistic take on the superhero - Supes would have realistically brought the fight away from the city. I think that MoS has many moments of true poetry - for example the relation with the earth father, or the astonishing montage. My only hope is that, in the future, DC gives Supes more moments to shine and being self-confident, like he deserves, without being forced to carry on his shoulders all the pain in the world, like a sort of Jesus. I mean something similar to the scene up above, for instance. Supes is an example, his metaphore is the Sun, and the sun, simply, shines and gives hope to all of us.
He tried to take the fight away from both Smallville and Metropolis. Zod and his soldiers would not let him. At one point he was literally stomped in the ground for even trying.
While the implication is that the entirety of Metropolis was giving the Man of Steel a standing ovation, one must take into account all the people watching the game elsewhere or watching the news in other places so chances are that a decent percentage of the USA was going nuts as well
0:02 It's moments like this that bring me back to my childhood. When was the last time you saw a superhero moment where the people cheered for their heroes?
I'll always maintain it was a huge mistake not keeping Routh on as Superman, he was far more versatile and natural as Clark and Superman than Cavil ever could be.
