Nice looking camo man! I know Cerakote says to blast everything but I’ve had excellent results doing otherwise... I never remove the hard ano finish on ARs. Just a light “dusting” in the blast cabinet is all that’s needed. The most important part is removing ALL oil (even fingerprint oil!) i use a combination of heat & chemicals, pre heat the parts & start spraying.... I’ve been doing ARs like this for years with excellent results
@Project2Workshop
@Project2Workshop 3 года назад
Thanks! Yea I find myself not removing the anodizing anymore as well with good results. Speeds things up for sure! Not getting all the oils out has bit me more than once over the years.. I hate wearing gloves and it sure catches up to me every once and a while. Thanks for watching!

Thanks!This was a while ago but i only keep a few colors around to keep it simple. I always use Armor Black, FDE for the tan color and OD Green. If I want to darken I’ll mix in a little black to the tan so that’s where the two shades of tan comes from. Thanks for watching sir.

To be honest I find it easier to just order stencils these days.. plenty of folks on eBay offering good stuff! I have in the past used photoshop to build the stencil and and a lower end cutter with some success but without spending a ton of cash it’s hard to get consistent results.

When flashing the parts after base coat, is there any way to tell when flashed and not cured? Or only the certain amount of time in oven? Thx for and help
@Project2Workshop
@Project2Workshop 2 месяца назад
It depends on a lot of variables.. Some times it still feels a little wet when I touch it so I put it back in for a bit longer.. it also helps to let it cool before applying the next set of stencils. I wish I had a better explanation but it’s really just something you gotta feel out and try, fail and redo before you get the hang of it. Good luck!

@BransonCerakote 3 года назад
Cerakote isn't as fragile as the internet would have you to believe. Normally, as long as your hands are clean, being gloveless isn't a big deal. We don't wear them until we get to the booth. It's almost impossible to stencil with gloves on. :)

I was going to use c series. I heard you say it won’t stick to fully curried. So if I wait the 5 days for a full cure. Lay my stencil. It won’t stick?
@Project2Workshop
@Project2Workshop 2 года назад
I have little experience with the c series but I would imagine there is a window of opportunity to adhere to for stencil work. I would guess that a second application over a fully cured base would not be recommended but it’s prolly best to ask them directly. Thanks for watching Chad!

How do you keep from getting ridges due to the stencils while also having a smooth to the touch finish?
@Project2Workshop
@Project2Workshop Год назад
I don’t worry about it, cerakote goes on pretty thin and while it does build up some amount of ridges, normally it’s not a big deal
@GibsonReviews
@GibsonReviews 3 года назад
Did you have any ridges between colors? How long did you let it set between spraying and flashing?
@Project2Workshop
@Project2Workshop 3 года назад
Yes there is always ridges between colors, it’s a bit un-avoidable unless you cover everything with some clear(I’ve never tried that).. I let it set long enough to be cool to the touch before applying more stencils and additional colors. I don’t normally wait after spraying to put it in the oven if that’s what your asking.

Sooo you blasted all the black off just to make it black again??? What a waste of time. I’ve seen numerous videos of people starting with the black anodized surface. Your first few steps are a waste of time and completely unnecessary. I’ve talked to the people at Ceracote and Duracote and neither said it must be bare metal for the product to stick.
@Project2Workshop
@Project2Workshop 3 года назад
Just doing it the way that works for me bud. After roughing the anodized surface it doesn’t look good to me so i just remove it and start over.

Definitely don't want to go to raw metal. With anodized parts a simple scuffing is all that's necessary. Stripping down to raw can jeopardize the integrity of the metal. But good job other wise.
@Project2Workshop
@Project2Workshop 3 года назад
Thanks for watching Nathaniel👍 if the part is anodized a light scuff is all that’s required, otherwise is common practice and preferred to get to bare metal when coating with cerakote. I’m not a certified applicator so take that for what it is, I just base my processes off their instructions online.
