The first Afrikaans was written in Arabic script by Muslims in the Cape. It was the result of the contact in the kitchens between the Dutch and their slaves.
I'm incredibly grateful for new videos such as these giving us insight and information of this most beautiful, poetic language - the youngest language to develop on the African continent. Had political powers of old not attempted to temporarily 'kidnap' Afrikaans for only white speakers, we may have not had this delayed knee-jerk reaction of our present confused and uninformed government to scapegoat and exile Afrikaans. Afrikaans is proudly a shared South African heritage and here to stay!
My Sarie Marais was ñ oosterse lietjie. Dankie.
Jawi and Rencong = Malay script, Jawi=Arabic base with additional sound of Pa, Cha, Nya, Ga which not exist in Original Arabic, Rencong are old Malay script, for Javanese = Pegon and Hanacaraka, Pegon=arabic base for Javanese language and Hanacaraka Javanese script, Bugis and Makassar = Serang and Lontara, Serang=Arabic base, Lontara=Bugis script, Sundanese used Pegon and Sundanese script. Jawi used by Malay and Malayic closed cousin like Cham, Minangkabau, Acehese, Banjarese and Kutai. Cham used Jawi and Cham script. Minangkabau have Minangkabau script but Jawi become dominant. Tausug/Sulu of Southern Philippine Sulu Archipelago = Jawi and Luntarsug.
In early settlement of Malay, Minangkabau, Javanese and Bugis in Cape Town, the Malay build Community hall or hall used traditional architecture, like "Balai adat Melayu" or 'Balai besar melayu", Minangkabau build 'Balai adat Minangkabau' or 'Rumah gadang", Javanese build 'Rumah Joglo' and Bugis and Makassar with "Balla Lompa". for the mosque, all Nusantaran/Malay archipelago or Indonesia-Malaysia used 'Multi-Tiered Pyramidal roof' like "Masjid Agung Demak", 'Masjid Kg Hulu Melaka", Masjid Alai Melaka, Masjid Agung banten, Masjid Kauman Jogja. Maybe all these are no longer exist. or replace with Arab-Persian, Mughal/India-Pakistan, Egyptian and Ottoman/Turkish dome style mosque or building. In Thailand the only Thai style mosque Bangkok called 'Bang Luang Mosque". it for Malay community settler and trader in Thailand, also Bugis, Javanese, Makassarese who live in Thailand, also Javanese mosque Bangkok build in multi-tiered pyramidal roof style. Bang Luang mosque and Thai Buddhist temple look very similar. I hope Cape Malay will build their traditionally architecture style building at least community hall or cultural hall.
The government in South Africa prior to 1994 and from 1948 was an apartheid state, for White's only privileged and its government ruled by an Afrikaaner Nationalist Party. It privileged White people, jailing, killing and torturing any opposition to its policies of racism. So, its no wonder that Afrikaans was cultural, political and financial assistance above others. Apartheid was declared a crime against humanity by the UN.
@@yousufcajee Not the fault of all the people who speak Afrikaans I think? Nazis spoke German, yet ...? Thee 9/11 terrorists like many others, spoke Arabic. But we do not condemn Arabic speaking people? To politicize a language in infantile.
@@mrsdoubtfire534 That's the history of nationalism and what it means. Afrikaans was privileged by Afrikanerdom, by its apartheid rule. It was imposed even as a second language. The attempt in 1976 by the Nationalist Party, an Afrikanerdom one, to have the language imposed as a language of learning in African, Black schools led to riots which lasted for years and eventually collapsed that rule in 1994. That's what the history was in South Africa. Fortunately, there was settlement.
My ma kon Jiddish praat want haar beste vriendin se familie het haar geleer.
@@Muhammedthemaverick I must tell you this story my friend. My wife could not understand why people were always asking her to buy a donkie when she first come to Cape Town. It was from the Afrikaans Baie Dankie which translates literally into Many Thanks.
@@johnmeneses7039 no I actually can speak Afrikaans Unfortunately because I wasn’t fully educated in Afrikaans it became a little bit difficult I only started learning afrikaans in grade 3 and I used to watch sewe de laan which was my favourite afrikaans tv 📺 programme on sabc 2 I moved to New Zealand 🇳🇿 at age 10 and unfortunately I could not speak Afrikaans here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 because it is an Anglo Saxon country only which means English speaking Ja that’s me And plus I suffered with fluency disorder meaning that I used to stutter a lot when I was a child whenever I spoke
Can't there's over one billion Muslims on earth. In addition the Dutch brought Muslim prisoners all the way from the far east to the cape. There's a huge portion of Muslim genes amongst the "white people in western cape". Afrikaans was written Arabic text as a form of documentation. It influenced how Afrikaans became a off shoot of the Dutch language. If you don't like it you know what to do. History is history.
