Arcadian Atlas is a brilliant love letter to the SRPG greats. While its inspirations are easy to spot, the narrative immerses players in this world across a story of love, honor, and loss. Every system lends to the depth of combat that evolves across the entire campaign. The result is an experience unrivaled in this space, where players are challenged during battles, but their emotional attachment to these characters keeps them pushing forward. Some quality-of-life updates are needed to fine-tune the menu navigation, but the wait for this release was genuinely worth it.

I just got done playing this game for a couple of hours, and I have to say I am hooked! This is the game that harkens back to the PS1 era, and it's simplified combat is such a breath of fresh air! The one thing I also noticed is the facial expressions through the cutscenes. So simple but effective! The artwork is beautiful, and the story so far is intriguing. Just a great game overall!

Can confirm good short little game, took me just under 20 hours to do all the content and the story as fun and unique. Some of the systems need some work like recruiting, leveling, itemization and some of the combat systems but for a first game for the devs (I think) really good little game! Could use some more side quests and unique items too :P Thanks!

It is very similar to Vandal Hearts, and a very over looked game called Kartia The Word of Fate. PS1 Rpgs were the best!

Ive had my eye on this title , and was waiting for switch version. Now that its out, I wanted to ask you, A. Have you played "Fell Seal:Arbiters Mark" B. If so, would you say it is at least as good , or better, than that title? If you haven't played that you definitely should it's a very good tactical RPG in the style of final fantasy tactics, By a small developer and you can definitely tell a lot of love was put into it absolutely absolutely fantastic game.

I hope the game is successful. Unfortunately in my case it doesn't draws me, its presentation from UI, environments, animations to characters feels of subpar quality, the game would have greatly benefited from an artist since a game may be good but the first thing usually gets you drawn into a game is by their visuals and position and height not affecting attacks doesn't sound good to me for an SRPG. Also the price is quite high in my opinion (It even surpasses the Steam suggested pricing by a lot), for that price I can get games that look much more polished in the genre like Fell Seal or even 2 recently released high quality indie games. I'm also quite surprised by the score you gave it, going by critics scores that places it higher than an Tactics Ogre: Reborn, Octopath Traveler II, Ghost Trick, Dave the diver, Cassete Beasts or Hi Fi rush, which at least from a glance look much more polished games. I hope this doesn't sound harsh, just sharing my thoughts.

What you said comes off as very harsh. Its by a small teamthat has worked very hard and for a long time. The strength of the game is the gameplay and challenge. There really is no issue with the visuals. There is plenty of value for its price. Anyone that likes Final Fantasy Tactics then they'll like this but you seem more interested in compairing it to way higher budget games.Shame you can't just appreciate it for what it is. Your loss.

@@protolegacy9184 I apologize if it came that way, most of my criticism comes from its price as I would expect a more polished product from what is being sold, e.g. in my country I can buy 2 copies of Chained Echoes, Dave the Diver or Cassete Beasts for that price but its higher in other countries from info on SteamDB. But I've taken a look at the steam discussions and it seems that the prices are a mistake and will be fixed in the future, which would change my perspective in several ways

I agree actually, and the fact this takes 7 years to develop is baffling. I mean compare it to Fell Seal. Sure that game sprites are less exciting to look at, but it was cheaper and has lots more polish than this game.

Picked it up to show my support, however it still needs a lot of polish, they should have held off on releasing it for a couple of months. Unfortunately as there is no verticality and you cannot use obstacles to prevent ranged damaged has largely turned me off. If they ever decide to change that, i will likely go back.

The story sounds very interesting and I dig the sprite art, but damn those art designs for the portraits seem to vary wildly, like going from Banner Saga top quality to early 00s 15 year old teenager fanart, that Gafgarion looking guy from 1:28 looks like a child that is playing at being at being a knight.😂 It's a shame, I don't think it looks like a game worth around 30 bucks(in my currency).

Tell me, can the characters act and THEN move? I don't know why but that aspect of FFT is way under-imitated. I can forgive them for not having battle maps that don't rotate, but there's no reason someone shouldn't be able to do their action and then move, always drive me nuts.

@@NoisyPixelNews No insult to reviewer but I think he is just starved of SRPGs. Presentation and plot-wise I agree that this is better than Mercenaries series.. those games are devoid of soul.. However remember that Arcadian Atlas was a kickstarter-backed game, 7 years in development, and is more expensive.. which is a red flag.

I love this channel, reviewing smaller games that often only get reviewed by even smaller channels which may have, uh, reduced production quality compared to NP. They’re doing their best and I love seeing those channels grow as well but many lack staying power. YT is a crazy beast!

it's not illogical. early yt videos had long winded introductions/title crawls which trained people to skip forward in videos. in fact it still happens on some channels. Kinda the opposite of illogical. 1 minute might be a bit much, but it's literally tagged into chapters. You make me want to become a patron just because how goofy this comment is. @@NocturneTheatre

This game has too many problems to be considered a "must play" game. If you pick an entirely random game from steam in the same genre you'll have about a 70% chance to find one more fun and in-depth than this one. No verticality or flanking mattering; a lackluster job system, and extremely poor balancing make this a chore to sit through. Also the musical style does not fit the damn theme of the game or the moments that are happening on the screen. It's like one developer really likes jazz so they decided the entire thing should feature jazz music; theming be damned. You can't even pick and choose what type of unit joins your party when you go to hire a new character. They're randomly generated and if you look into the dev's reasons for this it was to "avoid sexism/discrimination." Also this is a nitpick, but while the sprites are nice, the character portraits as a whole are not. They look...uncanny; like they were put through some sort of instagram makeup filter.

This thing where all characters are walking while not actually moving will always look goofy as hell to me, i really don't know why devs keep using that crap other than for pointless nostalgia baiting. Just make them immobile, it's turn based anyway, it will never "look" realistic, that's beside the point.

Yea but once you get access to some abilities, your strategies also change to be more thoughtful about the battlefield. Such as holding back enemies using traps to then take out a stronger group. I’m with you though, that was one of the downsides here

9 out of 10 for this game is ridiculous; and before anyone says 'it's their opinion, it can't be wrong'. Firstly, if you are rating games for money (a professional; and if you have a YT channel devoted to it, you are a 'professional'), you are trying to persuade people's buying decisions, so it is not merely their opinion. Not surprising who made the first comment on this "review"! Secondly, if you are rating a turn-based strat game a 9, you are claiming it is comparable to an Xcom, which is laughable. Xcom is an all-time classic, where this game will sell little, rate mid and be forgotten in a matter of weeks even by those of us who played it. Everything about this game is, at best, average......if the game were released 25 years ago, today this is well below average for a TBS game. Even if you love the game, it is, at best, a 6 in 2023.
