Those little thumb protectors are brilliant, i lost my middle finger in an accident a few years ago so use my remaining 3 and struggle to get anything that is comfortable or will fit, thank you so much
That’s brilliant limitless possibilities for those who can’t afford the traditional thumb rings , but of course your method of using the bare thumb is most fascinating
Hi Armin: So, i tried the ali express ones you showed and they came fast and cheap and better than anything i could find here in the states. After trying them out this evening, just ordered some more before they run out. 4 for the price of one here and thicker leather and better fit which equals much cleaner release which makes things more pleasurable!! Thank you!!!
Hey Armin! About a month ago I found out your channel and thumb release with it. I thought it was very interesting and when I tried it out it made my arrows far more accurate! I tried to made my own wooden and leather thumbrings, but they didn't really work very well. Lately I've been duct taping small cardboard pices to my thumb, wich works but it's a one use only thing. I really like the whole horsebow thing and I have just ordered a new bow and arrows. I'm really excited about it. I got a 70lb horsebow... I know its gonna be hard at the beginning but I may use it for hunting, plus I love shooting far away and see my arrows fly fast, I hope I will get the hang of it. I will keep practicing my thumb release, but I don't know if I should get a thumbring since I haven't ever tried one. I feel like leather isn't gonna work as well (although its worth trying it for 2 bucks as you say). What advice would you give me? Also any advice for shooting and practicing with high draw weight bows?? Thank you in advance and keep it up with the great videos!!
That exactly what I bought about 2 weeks ago, the thumb leather patch that he couldn't pull of his finger, but putting it together, I was afraid I'd snap the bow, now the bow is built for it, just coming to summer now, perfect back yard, for practice, practice, practice...
Love your videos. I shoot with 2 fingers like U show here and no finger pinch for many years. But now I need to learn thumb release due to arthritis in my fingers. Your videos are a great help to me
at 2:17 "universal 1 size fit all" --> This is easy problem to solve. Velcro has two parts: Hook, and Loop (also known as landing zone). My suggestion: You increase the length of the Loop (landing zone), to cover the ENTIRE stripe on that side of the thumb patch. As for the Hook, you decide based on experiment. Longer patch of hook allows more adaptability to different finger sizes. BUT, the hook is the "doesn't feel so good" part of the system. Having this constantly scraping against the skin is going to irritate the skin. To solve for this problem, you'd want to keep the hook patch small. Therefore the tension point in design: Do you keep this patch long, or keep it short. But in any case, simply by lengthening the Loop patch, you will significantly increase the range of finger size this thumb protector can work with.
before you even got to the point of using 3 of them for the fingers I had that same thought. No extra leather on my wrist/hand and the finger tips are protected well. No sweat in the summer, etc. Great minds, huh? nice vid! Thanks!
Thank you for so much great information this is very useful indeed. Will be making a thumb leather protector “glove” that was such a cool and neat idea. Mind blown
I'm attempting to make one from some deer hooves I got from a deer I harvested the hooves are super smooth and shape rather nicely but trying to attach them to the wrist is difficult
😳 wow I saw them on AliExpress already but I thought..naeh that thingy can't work properly. After watching your video I reconsidered my thoughts especially the idea of using it for mediterranean release...what a smart idea 😊👍 thx for this clip Armin. Ah and for the slawik release, never seen it before but I'll try it...but before that I'll quickly order a bunch of these leather thumb rings from AliExpress, before they're all gone 😂
I saw one of these on Amazon when I started putting together my kit. I've been using this leather one you recommend for a couple weeks, and it works great. Only problem I'm having is I had to rapidly develop a callous in the center of my thumb due to the pressure, but that came quickly.
I find leather rings more comfortable and actually more useful for standard (legal for hunting) draw weights than rigid rings. Soft rings provide much better string control and group consistency. From my own experience, leather ring should be tailored to a particular shooter, pretty much like a suit. Then the leather ring performs at its peak. In my opinion, adjustment straps, lacing or velcro strips are better be avoided.
thanks for your thoughts. sure tailor fit is always better, but in my case I need to provide them to different students. So I have to go a different way
I am sharing my experience ))) A lot of people get turned off by poorly chosen/fitted ring, so it is always good to have an option to offer a nice/er piece to keep students interested )
I did not quite understand where you said to buy the thumb ring that is the most versatile. Looks quite good. Can you post a link please. Thank you in advance!
do not find them now on Aliexpress, but here they are too: www.banggood.com/Cowhide-Finger-Guard-Protector-Glove-for-Fishing-Ourdoor-Activities-Leather-Finger-Protection-p-1079694.html?rmmds=myorder&cur_warehouse=CN
Nice bow, I saw your review on it. Maybe I get one Paragon one day, but I have a tatar AF 40lbs on the way as my first bow ever (not counting the bamboo ones that we used to make as kids back in the day). I learned one thing already, it's not easy to find 32" carbon arrows with the proper weight and spine here in Brazil!
L.O.L. I don't have any teeth to tighten one thumb protector, let alone three of them. I like the idea of that three finger glove mod, I've got one of those; but I decided that it wasn't for me (at least for Mediterranean style shooting), but I'll try it with thumb release, also instead of cutting the finger off why not leave it attached to the Velcro wrist securement.
Everything you need can be recycled buy using old jackets with these rubber and clamps on most outdoor jackets, old leather sofa, easy when you have worked with leather...I've started with a hearse bow and the thumb patch you couldn't pull off....
Hey , how are you i have question, do you know why arrows are over priced ? Even in chinese online markets its expensive for what it is , its wood feathers and steel tip where is the Expensive resources , thank you.
Hey. Where I get my arrows from, don't think they are over priced, not even from China (but I only buy from Alibow there), the others I get from the Ukraine or Germany.
Thank you armin hirmer for your feedback i want to give you hadith of prophet of allah mohammed the messanger of allah prophet of allah incitemnt muslims to shoot bow and arrow. I want to put hadith.
The Prophet passed by some people of the tribe of Bani Aslam who were practicing archery. The Prophet said, “O Sons of Ismail ! Practice archery as your father Ismail was a great archer. Keep on throwing arrows and I am with Bani so-and-so.” So one of the parties ceased throwing. Allah’s Apostle said, “Why do you not throw?” They replied, “How should we throw while you are with them (i.e. on their side)?” On that the Prophet said, “Throw, and I am with all of you.” [Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, book 52, Number 148]
Nice video Armin, i make all leather stuffs myself for me and my childrens, but for how max poundage this type of protection can go ? i test it with the strongest leather i have with a 54# bow and it's seems ok, any further i don't know !
great. it simply depends on the thickness of the leather. If you like, you can even boil a bigger piece, then it gets stiff like wood. I have a thumb ring made like this from a friend. Most probably you could shoot 100# with it
