Quantums have nothing to do with triangles. "Super Quantum" literally doesn't mean anything. TCG why did you call them that Tweetter: / rank10ygo Paytreon: www.patreon.co... Tweetch: / rata #yugioh #superquantum
Fucky amendment time, as per usual. This is not particularly relevant to the current state of the game but it's very funny: As Magnus first summons itself and THEN picks up the materials, that means you need to have a fourth zone free on the field to summon it, which made it nearly unsummonable with field-only materials during MR4 - even with Blaster Magna. Again, not a massive deal but it would've made for an entertaining piece of trivia in the video which means I'll be forever mad knowing I forgot to include it. Swag
I've been getting a lot of use out of Magnaslayer in Master Duel specifically because of the proliferation of Crooked Cook Stall. a lot of good that Invincible Monster does when I do 4600 Piercing damage (or 2800+1800+1800 if he flips it into Attack position in a panic)
One of the greatest mistakes Arc-V anime did was not giving us an "Ancient Gear Chaos Giant" vs "Super Quantum Mech King Great Magnus" moment in the Heartland saga.
I mean... they aren't nostalgia bait from a previous season, so they couldn't appear on the Heartland "saga" (like, seriously they were in heartland for all of like 6 episodes or something).
Hell I wish they could've given us a two on one duel with Reiji and Yuya creating Odd-Eyes Armageddon Dragon which was big enough for a battle against Chaos Ancient Gear Giant.
One of the reasons the main Super Quantum heroes don't have as 'unified' as design as you might expect is because they're actually less based off Sentai, and more specifically the Chouseishin Series of tokusatsu shows from the mid-2000s - which Konami manufactured the toys for! Claws were common weapons in the series, as they used huge robot animals as a consistent theme, which explains their presence on Red.
Ooh so that's why Dinomorphia Therizia also has claws (tho more justified this time)! Thought they were also inspired by Dino-based sentai (also thanks to Rata for pointing out how Dinomorphia Frenzy coincidentally looks like Dino Thunder scene)
Love how Archetype Archive is slowly turning into "Rata geeks around about Tokusatsu culture for 20min each 6 months" Personally, I couldn't ask for better content
Honestly this archetype should get accolades for making a card like Great Magnus that is somehow regarded almost universally by the community as "The raddest fucking thing I've ever seen."
@@jotacatalan I think Farfa is the source of this meme - the origin being google translating ygo cards through several iterations (or fake ygo cards idk exactly) and this was one of the results.
@@themage1115 It was translation telephone, yeah. Running cards with a lot of text through a lot of layers of Google Translate and watching the text become pure nonsense.
@@Zetact_ Both are Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider has had Bug themed heroes in its roster since Day 1, to the point that "bugs squash evil" is a part of modern Japanese pop culture, such as the Bug-type defeating the Dark-type in the almighty mega-franchise Pokémon.
You know, I think they should give the archetype some of the missing colors of the power rangers, because a pink and black layer would be really cool. This archetype is a fan favorite for all the right reasons, and I'd very much like to have Konami not give Dark Magician and Blue Eyes 4 new pieces of support each year.
Yellow, black, pink, they could do alternate versions of each (different iterations of rangers basically) more extra deck zords. Maybe villain cards that work like kaijus?
@@wildercerrate7295 pink and black could be used as a single package as usually the ones with black colors have either purple and pinkish energies for them pink/black and yellow would be great
10:36 to be fair that is also thematically accurate for Sentai and Power Rangers with the individual zords being tough and capable on their own but most often just form straight into the megazord so giving Magnus comically overpowered effects based on having 6 materials which is what it’ll have if you overlay 3 mech beasts summoned via the field spell (hey look at that) it’s about the most sentai thing you can think of
the fact the "ultrazord" feels so meh is like a personal reference to me of how cool the initial megazords in lightspeed rescue were, and how their final megazord, the omega megazord, had such a cool name but its design left A LOT to be desired, and even their attacks looked meh. especially considering how it looked better in their individual zords and as the omegacrawler it looked so meh i am convinced lifeforce megazord (which is just a recolored lightspeed solarzord) was made to bring back the cool facotr
The reason is just that it's a lot easier to film a fight scene involving one guy in a rubber suit than it is to have a bunch of non-humanoid robots running around. Like, this is why they had fight scenes involving the Dragonzord and the T-Rex in the original Mighty Morphin'--you can get a guy in a suit to play those, but you can't do that with a mastodon or a saber-toothed-tiger (at least, you can't do it and have it look any good).
Rata has done Ultraman(Neos), Kamen Rider(Inzector), and finally Super Sentai(Super Quants) meaning that he has finally collected the powers of the big 3 toku franchises.
White Layer actually IS Alphan. You can tell by both of them having chest/chin fur and the black shuriken behind Alphan turning into White Layer's hair and tail. Alphancall Appeal's art is of them finally transforming after a desperate situation like with SPD's Shadow Ranger.
...And suddenly White Layer letting you get a copy of Alphan in hand while also being unable to discard Alphan for his own special summon makes so much sense.
As if I can’t appreciate a positive archetype archive as much as I can relish in the 15 minute rip and tearing of whole archetypes or Royal Knight of the ice barrier.
I know it wasn’t intentionally, but it’s pretty appropriate that this overview of an Xyz archetype dropped on the same day as the big Xyz Master Duel event
10:55 “The only morally correct way to use Dragoon is as a drink coaster.” Welp, now I know what to do with my first Dragoon if I ever pull one. Seriously, I was already disinterested in the card, but then a few weeks ago, I was about to finally beat the ‘unbeatable judge’ at my locals when he drew the fusion on his last turn and OTKd me right there! Frankly, it can’t be banned soon enough.
Play UAs. There is no greater joy than my brother summoning dragoon me going "ah, I have no outs to it I guess I should just scoop....unless" and then a 6500 attack basketball player dunking a hole through the unbeatable dragoon
Your flashier editing really fits this archetype, making this video as fun to watch as it is to listen to. Even after 5 years of this, you're still improving on the tried and true. I love it.
Oh cool, a new Archetype Archive, I love these videos. I wish this guy uploaded more. Oh shapesnatch it's always fun to see him again-- YO IS THAT A FUCKING ENA PLUSHIE, THAT'S SICK
I could definitely see it getting at least two more main deck monsters, two more Mech Beast cards, witch each one being either Earth or Dark attribute, and perhaps add one or two more boss monsters. One that is based on a auxiliary megazord, and one that is an actual Ultrazord.
wouldn't it be more like "ultra ultrazord"? Like how we got some in boukenger/operation overdrive and RPM/Go-onger the link monster feels like the modern ultrazords that are called as suchbut at best is the main red ranger zord that sadly is like 75% of the body, combined with the newest one and maybe the sixth ranger's zord Yeah, they could use the auxiliary megazord. although i think those would have an effect that lets them equip to a superquant xyz monster tou control once per turn. and maybe lets it special summon itself (like their union monster that its not a union)
OH YES BABY! I remember playing Super Quants a bit during the late Xyz era (or whenever the fuck they came out) and absolutely loving them, so I'm glad Rata is treating them with the respect they deserve. I hope he does the same with Gladiator Beasts!
Now we just need an archetype based on the enemies of Sentai/Power Rangers. Their minions would be low level that provide the usual functions (search, recovery etc.), and the high level Main Deck monsters would be the actual villains. However when a villain would be destroyed, instead it floats into its 'mega' form which is represented by an XYZ monster, with the villain as material. And yes, it is required by law to for the archetpye to include a card that is named "MAKE MY MONSTER GROW"
Okay, I know more support would be cool, but could you imagine if they did the same thing with Super Quantums as they do with Six Samurai? Where each new support wave brings new Monsters with a new Aesthetic, to represent the changing teams
I remember playing Janky zombie structure deck back in 2018, I ran Lusterex in the ED and the only way I could summon it was by overlaying Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon and Red-Eyes Zombie Necro Dragon, it was absolutely not worth it but I am ashamed to admit that I did it more than a few times (somehow) just because my lack of XYZ monsters made summoning it really cool to me
Now if only we can get a Black, Yellow, and/or Pink Layer with their own beasts and mech king(maybe as some sort rivals or evil turn friend like the thunder beetle rangers or the teams fight but ultimately team up against evil) and a better mech king combination since blaster magnus is just a band-aid come on mystic rata powers
Rata! I had just decided to make Trains in master duel and now you have sold me on Super Quants and now I dont know what to do! Your enthusiasm for these archetypes is very infectious. Love your videos, I rewatch regularly and I'm always happy to see new stuff.
Not gonna lie, I expected the Googly Eyes Drum Dragon to explode the moment Ojama Lime jumped in. But destruction was still had so I guess I was a little correct.
I'm shocked Orbital 7 (Yes those monsters were played by him in the anime) didn't show up at the end and in response to the carnage say "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!"
@@goodpeople25 To be fair at the end of Zexal that bot is married to Lillybot and they SOMEHOW had KIDS! So maybe they retired from dueling to focus on work and family.
Alphan Spike is kinda neat since the monster it cheats outs for your opponent wasn't summoned properly, so a lot of boss monsters won't get their on-summon effect, and it can't be revived from the GY later since it wasn't summoned properly. Won't come up much, and it isn't that significant...but it's funny.
Been waiting for this one for a long time. I'm definitely an old school "set one monster and pass" kind of player, but Super Quants are the one deck I have a real soft spot for.
I haven’t played yu gi oh in years and I don’t keep up with it, but I will admit, listening to you talk about some of these archetypes and learning about the backstories and themes actually makes me want to play. Keep up the good work sir
"Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus." I'm convinced that the only way that name was conceived was by one of the Konami execs throwing darts at a list of the coolest names they could think of.
That's Names Keisuke, they keep him in a closet in Konami HQ and give him a couple of bread crusts whenever they need a name for something. He's the mind behind such names as DanKira Boys Be Dancing, New Love Plus Plus, and Harlem Beat You're the One.
The evolution of Rata's hair throughout the years has been mesmerizing. From a generic guy from Montenegro, he now looks like he's gonna be friends with a talking Great Dane and go around the world with a trap lover, a generic attractive white lady, and a thicc nerd solving mysteries and hunting down men in really convincing monster costumes. Btw Dragonmaid Archetype Archive when
I love when Rata does archetypes he likes. The tone is different but notable and it makes for a very fun video where the jokes are fueled by his passion rather than just "angy boy card bad!!"
Oh wow, I've never actually heard of this archetype before, so this is the first time I've seen any of these monsters. These things all look rad as hell! All of the designs for the not-Rangers feel super on point, and even the not-Zords they pilot also hold the aesthetic they are going for really well too.
To adress the complaint about the suits being different, each and every main deck monster is based on a different ranger team. For instance, Red layer is based on Gao Red, Green layer is Ginga Green, and Blue layer is based on blue dolphin from liveman. And of course, white layer is based on JDF trying to stay releveant
I Love Super Quant monsters! The fact they reference Liveman(my favorite) more than any other Super Sentai serires in their aesthetics, makes me love it even more!. Edit: Some References: -The team/zords are clearly Liveman and LiveRobo (twin dolphin legs+Lion chest, the eagle is missing though) -Magnacarrier is the zord carrier from Liveman, oldschool non-teleport manual transport of zords. -White Layer is more in tune with Kibaranger like Rata said, but I see a lot more of AbareKiller (Dino Thunder White) on it. -Alphan Spike is another retro sentai thing....like 1st ever sentai retro we are talkign about, it's the Goranger Hurricane!!! They just pass the ball from team mate to team mate and then spike the ball to blast the opponent LOL -Magnaslayer is just Sunrise mech pose
Yo, this drops right after I finally grind back to Plat in season 2 on Master Duel with these guys. I was bored of having to try hard with Dragonmaid, and I believed in the power of Super Quant. People always get Blaster Magna wrong, though. It's not a bandaid for Link. In Link Era, you coulnd't even Summon Great Magnus using this Link, because you needed a 4th spot. This card is meant to cover the losses of the Field Spell's discard cost, meaning you'll plus off it from the theme's GY effects. In post-Link Era, this card makes making Great Magnus ez as cake in situations where you wouldn't normally have enough resources.
I only realized the 4 zones MR4 ruling when I got reminded of it after uploading the video. Omitting this genuinely crazy fact is going to haunt me for fucking life. Thanks for pointing it out.
Yugioh and Tokusatsu seems like a match made in heaven in terms of aesthetics. Masked Heroes, Inzectors, Kaijus, Neos (probably), and now Super Quantums. This might be one of my favorite Archetype Archives so far. Loved the intro and ending skits and I got a small chuckle out of all the Toku/Sentai tangents, especially at 11:44 since I recently finished Dairanger.
Was just in the process of watching old Archetype Archives, so... yeah, I’m good with this! And it’s for a deck I know all of one card from! Having finished the video, weird but definitely pleasant to hear energy in Rata’s voice again as he talks about something he definitely likes. Shame that making videos on archetypes he actually likes is probably much harder, but it’s funny how bright, colorful, and energetic this episode is, even down to thumbnail.
2 years later, I still play this deck in Master Duel. Granted, it's way different than how it started out. The most current iteration Ive built uses Danger!s for discard fodder/draw power and tossing in the usual Ash Blossoms along with some Ghost Ogres also allow synchros into Baronne and Chaos Angel. Also my Quants have befriended some terrific women on their adventures. Namely Underworld Goddess, Appalousa and tbeir naughty pal SP Lil' Knight. (I think she's gonna be HUGE in the HipHop community)
As per my contract with nobody, a custom card for the Archetype being Archived made while listening to Rata ramble. Super Quantal Morphase Shift Continuous Spell When this card is activated: Special Summon 1 "Super Quant" monster from your hand or Deck. If a "Super Quant" card you control is sent to the GY: You can add that card to your hand. When a Level 7 or lower "Super Quant" monster is Summoned, except by the effect of "Super Quantal Morphase Shift": You can Special Summon as many "Super Quant" monsters with different names as possible from your hand or Deck. If you control 3 "Super Quant" Xyz Monsters with different names: You can activate 1 "Super Quantal Mech Ship Magnacarrier" from your Deck, and if you do, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to the Summon or activation of "Super Quant" cards for the rest of this turn.
Wow, this video was just a pleasant experience, the archetype is decent, it's got a fun theme, rata actually likes it. These last few featured archetypes have been pretty good, so I think it's time for some blood. Some real gore, a true horror show. I vote Dinowrestlers, every effect of theirs I've ever read is so bad it feels like it came out 3 animes ago.
I think the idea of making the sword finisher attack a trap card is because rangers never start the battle with the finisher. So... you know, fight a little before you can use this baby
I'm so happy you picked these guys to do a video on, Rata! I remember the days of three brilliant fusion and making a 9 mat Magnus first turn. Playing that was so sick. Keep up the good work man I've been watching a long time now. Happy 5th anniversary!!
I swear, I'm like the only person with hopes for DonBrothers. IDK, Inoue has had very solid work in Kamen Rider (and whatever the fuck the second halves of Faiz and Hibiki were), and Jetman is a certified hood classic. But with that aside, I'm glad we finally got to review this archetype. Now when Masked Heroes? Addendum: I just realized the Core 3 Super Quantal Mechs are a homage to Liveman, with them being a bird (Jet Falcon), a lion (Land Lion), and then a shark, that is to say, sea creature (Aqua Dolphin)
Inoue used to be the guy who did good for most of a series and fucked up more as it went in, looking at you last episode of Jetman among other things, but as time went on he started skipping straight to the "fucked up more" period. Those Zi-O vs Decade Rider Times were legitimately fucking awful and that's the last major Toku stuff he's done, which doesn't help.
I'm surprised you haven't done Fire Kings. With your love of nuke effects, and FK being a deck about having a nuke and nuking your nuke so that you can nuke your nuke. They've been my favorite archetype since high-school, being the first structure deck I've ever had.
Hope Super Quant got more support in Power of the Element, i would like to see Yellow Layer(Earth) and Black Layer(Dark) with their Megazord, also i would like to see rival archetypes(based on Nejiranger/Psycho ranger) from Super Quant lore.
As a fellow fan of Power Rangers, Super Quants will always hold a special place in my heart, and I do hope we get some more support for them in the future. They're not in as bad a position as certain other archetypes I like, but there's definitely room for improvement.
YYYEEEEEESSSSS THIS IS MY FAVORITE ARCHETYPE HONESTLY! I started playing them recently so this video is amazing to see in my sub box! thank you for introducing me at least partially to kamen rider and sentai in a strange way.
Firstly, a bit late, but happy 5 years of probably my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! Comprehension series to ever exist on RU-vid. Secondly, I cannot get over how much I love the way you transitioned into Great Magnus. Timestamp: 9:32
I still love and play this deck to this day, even got JDF (the OG Green Ranger) to sign my green and white layers. a few suggestions id make to the deck list is trade the danger package for 3 volcanic shells, trade the diviners for ash blossoms, and trade the pot of desires for feast of the wild lv 5. Hope this helps somebody! And great vid btw!
Rata returns and with an archetype that references Super Sentai/Power Rangers, is artistically coherent, functions well due to actual effort put into the design of the cards, and is overall something our sweet Slavic boy genuinely enjoys. :)
There is a part of me that is convinced that this episode was made as an excuse for Rata to flex his Sentai knowledge at us. Not that I'm complaining, that's the kind of thing that I love to see.
Super quantum archive, AKA the perfect excuse to poke fun at all things sentai Also not sure if it's just me but Magnacarrier always reminded me of the Soul Bird from Gaoranger.
