Archie (Carroll O'Connor) does a quiz to see how long he will live. But it's just a silly test, right?
From Season 5, Episode 21 'Archie and the Quiz': Out of curiosity, Archie takes a magazine test about his health habits. When he scores the test, he learns he might die at age 57. Rather than take the test for what it is worth (or heed the advice of the accompanying article), Archie fumes about his apparent fate.

I love the ending after Michael had Archie dead at 57, Gloria switched the numbers to 75 and showed it to Archie before she claimed to have redone Archie’s test. Archie then blew up on first Edith because she had him dead at 63 and 4 months, then he exploded at Mike for having him dead at 57, too funny. After Archie left the scene, Gloria admitted to Mike that she intentionally switched the numbers around to ease Archie.

Love when later in the episode, Archie says "I bet I could add a couple years if I gave up cigars, drank less, & gave up this here *makes fist-gesture meaning sex* Mike: *makes same gesture* "Arch, This here doesn't shorten your life!" Archie: "You would say that. If it did, you'd probably have 10 minutes left to live!"

It’s not a myth. Many people really did appear older back then. It was the way they dressed. Plus they simply let themselves age naturally. I had two great aunts. In the 1970’s, they both looked ancient by their 60’s. Today I have friends the same age who could pass for a decade or more younger. It blows my mind.

Agree totally.My mom in her eighties looked about 50, she kept her hair colored a natural brown shade, she wore jeans and sneakers each day, and looked younger. She died at nearly 90.

Hairstyles are very different now and help you to look younger. Also make up has improved a great deal. People get dental work and facelift. People just do not look like they did then.

@No censoring allowed Edith was written out of the show because she wanted out of the series, not because of Archies place. Thats the only reason why they killed Edith off

@@jckhammerTrue, but if we remain in the Bunkerverse, it's ironic that Edith and not Archie died at 57 (and not at 84). Maybe the gypsy fortune teller was right, and Archie outlived Edith by ten years.
