I remember many years ago when 'Nalgene .. was THE Nurse's #1 choice.

My old Nalgenes were misplaced before ever breaking. But yeah, BPA and BPS were just the beginning of problems we're becoming aware of with PFAS forever chemicals - which are in our food containers, toothbrushes, plastic cutting boards, wet wipes and drinking water. Endocrine disruptors everywhere.

i wonder if... pouring boiling water in a container makes it more brittle...

Hey, do you know where I can find some of the old nalgene bottles?
@jurkoot
@jurkoot 2 месяца назад
The old polycarbonate bottles were safe, as there was no way to have BPA leach out of the plastic in measurable quantities. Having any other potentially harmful chemical in your bottle is okay if it doesn't get in your water. The fact that the manufacturer doesn't list pouring boiling water in your bottle as a feature doesn't suggest they're afraid of harmful chemical leaching into your beverage. On another note, I wonder where that story about the logo comes from. I had a polycarbonate nalgene bottle with the current logo. Next time, please be more thorough in your research and careful with your claims!

"BPA free" is a scam as there is BP-C BP-F etc.

Theres another reason you should'nt put boiling water into any sealed vessel - the steam pressure could blow the lid off, or spew boiling water in your face if you try to unscrew the lid ! 🙄

Why on earth would anyone want to pure boiling water in a canteen anyway ? THAT's not actually the canteens task , it's sold to carry cold water personally I prefer the GI canteen ( Oasis ) they make as it fits the issue pouch and it takes up less room than those round things ...... although I bought my wife the round type !

Nalgene's are made of Tritan, which doesn't leach chemicals (BPA & equivlents) that cause estrogen activity. The Yeti one contains BPA equivlents.

Sorry for asking this, but does that also apply for Nalgene the plastic bottles or just the stainless steel? I'm thinking to buy the 16oz (500ml) Nalgene Wide mouth plastic bottle, but I'm afraid that it will contain all those toxic chemicals
@User24x
@User24x 2 месяца назад
@@Mosestylez Like I said in my comment: Nalgene plastic tritan bottles don't leech chemicals with estrogen activity, supposedly. The only study saying otherwise was a competing plastic water bottle company that went out of business. It will however still leech plastic. I'd recommend getting stainless steel if you'll be in the sun or leaving it in a hot car just to reduce your plastic intake. But realistically, there's plastic in everything. Is there any reason it must be plastic instead of stainless steel? If weight is the reason, there's flat plastic water bottles you can get.
@Mosestylez
@Mosestylez 2 месяца назад
@@User24x Honestly the only reason I want it to be plastic is due to the weight. I don't want to carry around a brick😅 However I was really close to buy Klean Kanteen Stainless steel yesterday, but didn't get one due to I found out there is insulated and non-insulated. I've tried to find the difference between these two to see which one is safer, but can't find anything. The only difference I know is that the non-insulated is lighter (which i like). Is the non-insulated "safer" than the Nalgene plastic bottle?
@User24x
@User24x 2 месяца назад
@@Mosestylez Tritain likely doesn't have estrogen activity, but does still have plastic leeching. Stainless steel is stainless steel. Insulated & non-insulated changes nothing but insulation & weight. If weight matters to you, you can get the plastic water bottle that folds flat (ex: Vapur brand). But for me, the weight of metal vs plastic is negligible because it is only a few more ounces. One cup of water is ~8oz.
@User24x
@User24x 2 месяца назад
@@Mosestylez The only thing you may want to watch out for is the lead solder on the bottom of the insulated stainless steel bottle. Some companies don't use lead solder anymore, but you'd have to search for them. Just make sure you wash your water bottle with a brush daily (like you would cups & plates). You're at more of an immediate risk from allergies & stickness from not washing your water bottle throughly with soap & a brush.

I'm sorry but putting boiling water in a plastic container is insane. The fact that Americans need someone to explain this to them makes me understand why they need a hot warning on coffee cups.
@evicaf4e
@evicaf4e 5 месяцев назад
I somewhat agree, but I know a lot of people who uses their plastic bottles to pour in warm tea (and Im from EU)..so its not as crazy as sign "hot" on coffee cups. 6:44

wait til you find out that the coffee cup has a plastic liner, same as canned food (people routinely heat canned food with can in fire), so those containers may appear to be metal or paper, they are in fact still plstic as what touches the food
@colinz226

The hot warning on the coffee cup is the results of a very contentious lawsuit and years-long smear campaign about how a McDonald's location which had their coffee at ridiculously high holding temperatures burned a woman very severely and put her in the hospital they fought like hell not to have to pay and when they did pay they initiated a crazy advertising campaign implying that it was a frivolous lawsuit and that they're not really at fault
